The fact that I don't agree with most of the list, but can't even argue against it just speaks to how well the characters are written and carried out on stage
For what it’s worth I think you definitely should watch El Camino. It doesn’t ruin the character or the show one bit in fact I think it makes Jesse’s final goodbye even more emotional and impactful. Plus for the last few episodes of breaking bad Jesse wasn’t able to make any choices for himself so it’s nice to see him be fully in control one last time before he fades into the sunset
I appreciate that and I’ve heard many similar perspectives but ultimately I’m just not interested. Jesse’s ending was perfect for me and I don’t want anything else. Thank you nonetheless!
@@Aleczandxr Too bad for you, your missing out on a lot. Jesse meets up with saul, and saul says "whatever happened to you man?" And jesse says "I guess I just... Broke Bad" and then Saul Goodman says back "Well then you Better Call Saul."
For me, Chuck is the most complex character of both series. It takes next level writing to make a character that is basically an upstanding citizen, beloved and admired by his peers and with a reputation that proceeds him, is in the right on many if not all occasions when it comes to jimmy, and yet manages to be the most condescending person with him, oftem denying Jimmy any possibility of doing better simply because he doesn't believe he can change and ultimately being pivotal in Jimmy's descent as a character. Although his descend to madness is of an rare brilliance, his death however still comes to me as underwhelming, for I still believe that he could make an even bigger impact for at least one more season, but that's just my speculation.
In terms of complexity alone, Chuck might just be 3rd after Walter and Jimmy in the BrBa universe, and imo 4th overall best character after the two protagonists and Jesse. But his ending was perfect and added to the tragedy of his character

Everything she "belittled" him for was stuff he deserved lol. Or it was out of conservation of the little money they had. They make it very clear that they struggle financially. The worst part is that most of what you describe is more or less due to Walt taking everything personally rather than anything on her part. It literally will ruin the ending for me. Any ending for Jesse other than what we had will feel weaker, I consider his ending in the show to be perfection. I know my tastes far better than anyone insisting that I *need* to watch it so I have every right to stick to my decision.
The only thing I disagree about this list is that Skyler should have been in the top ten, not just honorable mentions. I know she is the most hated character but her character is an epitome of “simple but efficient”. She doesn’t have intelligence or delusion of grandiose like Walter, or a complex morality like Jimmy, or a mysterious backstory like Kim. She is only a normal person living her life until Walter dragged her into the life of crime and having to react to the extreme circumstances she went through. Sometimes she’s smart. Sometimes she’s stupid (like fucking Ted) but she feels…REAL. With the top tier performance of Anna Gunn, Skyler is in my top 5 favorite characters of this franchise. And in my opinion, her ending makes sense. She is both a perpetrator and a victim. No matter how much she got abused, she still had to suffer the consequences of her actions. A proper conclusion for a character and honestly, I think her ending is better than those of Kim.
@@Aleczandxr Agree to disagree. Actually, I think Kim’s ending and her arc worth a long discussion. Did she really got punished for her actions or did she get away scott free?
@@nont18411 She definitely got punished. Just not in the way that we really wanted. We wanted to see her get jail time once and for all, but instead she's stuck in a mundane and boring life, with horrific PTSD that gnaws at her everyday, and she won't be able to find any semblance of happiness or joy anymore without Jimmy. I'd say that's a well deserved punishment.
Ahoy AJ, it's Geansai from the stream. I think my top 10 would be something like: 1) Jimmy 2) Jesse 3) Kim 4) Mike 5) Gus 6) Walter 7) Chuck 8) Hank 9) Howard 10) Lalo This might objectively be an almost criminal underrating of Walter, who is obviously an astonishing creation and who the whole universe hinges upon in many ways. But in terms of what I find most interesting or compelling in characters, there are more hints of hope or genuine redemption in my top three. What's more - this is hard to articulate and I wouldn't hold it against anyone who completely disagreed - there is a way in which Walter is as a person somehow less, I don't know, *substantial* than many of the people around him. His motivations are pettier, he ultimately has this kind of childish or scattershot cruelty, and watching him bring about the end of someone like Mike it's hard to escape the conclusion that he wasn't fit to shine the latter's shoes. All this arguably makes his character better as part of the overall story, and there are many subtleties to him that I'm leaving out here (like his genuine though increasingly twisted care for Jesse). But to me there are things about many of the others - particularly the fact that all of them except perhaps Gus are IMO more genuinely trying to seek the good - that make them as characters more compelling and interesting to think about. (Though all of these characters down to at least Hank are 10/10s for me). Thanks for another great video!
Dude I've never seen El Camino too, it's such a spit in the grave of Breaking Bad. The series has the best ending I've ever seen, and to make a random action film for money after it is such a disrespect.
El Camino was not at all an action film. It has one shoot out at the very end and that's it. It was made so fans can have closure regarding Jesse's character.
Lalos death wasn't underwhelming, he is literally the only reason Gus completely wrote off walt as a threat. Like genuinely watch better call Saul before breaking bad and his death is honestly pretty good
It’s completely underwhelming. The narrative idea of him dispatching him quickly leading to him underestimating Walt works for BB but not for BCS, where it completely undercuts Lalo’s presence and competence prior.
Saul was supposed to be called to "clean up the mess" after Jesse woke up to find gf overdosed on heroin. Bob/Saul wasn't available to shoot that scene, so they brought in Jonathan Banks/Mike as a one time fixer/cleaner/character. He did such a fantastic job and made a huge impression.....so they wrote him in as an ongoing character. And the rest, as they say, is history! I can't imagine the BCS/BB universe without Mike!!
With both BB and BCS combined I would say it’s one of the best TV casts, BCS is up there, but honestly BB isn’t IMO. Aside from Walt, Jesse and Hank, the others weren’t that deepened until BCS. Characters like Mike and Gus were great too but not peak TV characters till BCS came along. Saul in particular is kinda one note in BB. The best casts of TV are like The Wire (which has like 100 great characters somehow), The Sopranos, The Shield, Mad Men, Monster, GOT (before it got shit), etc. Totally agree about Lalo. Kinda shocked you put Howard above Hank. I like Howard way more than Hank but Hank was way more developed. I’d probably rank them Saul and Walt at the top followed by Jesse, Chuck, Hank, Kim, Mike, Gus, Nacho, Howard, but I admit I have a bias with Chuck.
Agree about Mike disagree about Gus Gus was quite deep in bb infact he was given more nuance and depth in bb than bcs But Mike I whole heartedly agree he's my favourite character in bcs Honestly sometimes I wished Gus wasn't in bcs he was kinda ok in bb he was friendly a minute then could be the most threatening person idk in bcs that nuance was lost Mike was quite layered in bb more now thanks to bcs but yea bcs really peeled the onion more
@@Aleczandxr i get that, but it's more BCS/BB content that you haven't seen. and there never will be any more, ever again. it's gonna sit there on the shelf just getting more tantalizing as time goes on, the last morsel you haven't yet consumed. you'll crack and watch it someday.
It’s not tantalizing to me at all. I have no temptation to see it, instead I have the opposite feelings towards it. And I’ve only become more sure of that in the three years since it released. I’m not fiending for more BCS/BB content. In fact, I’m wholly satisfied with just the amount I’ve gotten and don’t want any more.

heretical. putting better call saul over walt I think is putting the shallower of the two on top. In the second viewing, it is pretty obvious that walt 'breaks bad' a lot earlier in the show than is realized in the first, and his path shows an inexorable trend downwards. wheras in better call saul, the two characters (kim and jimmy) reinforce their downward spiral and are helped by a series of character interactions along the way. BCS is far more nuanced in its idea of causality, the schemes that jimmy come up with are clever and funny, and the show overall has a greater dynamic range. just IMO.

List is legit. Much better than the Huell or Skinny Pete is #1 bizarre stuff, and you have great reasons.
Ahoy AJ, it's Geansai from the stream.
I think my top 10 would be something like:
1) Jimmy
2) Jesse
3) Kim
4) Mike
5) Gus
6) Walter
7) Chuck
8) Hank
9) Howard
10) Lalo
This might objectively be an almost criminal underrating of Walter, who is obviously an astonishing creation and who the whole universe hinges upon in many ways.

Nice video
My top would probably go like
1. Jimmy/Saul
2. Kim
3. Walter
4. Jesse
5. Lalo
6. Nacho
7. Gus
8. Howard
9. Chuck
10. Mike

Dude I've never seen El Camino too, it's such a spit in the grave of Breaking Bad. The series has the best ending I've ever seen, and to make a random action film for money after it is such a disrespect.
El Camino was not at all an action film. It has one shoot out at the very end and that's it. It was made so fans can have closure regarding Jesse's character.
bro didnt even watch the movie and hes saying its bad
It's not really an action film. It has like one action scene, but most of it is based in flashbacks depicting Jesse's relationships with others
I had to force myself to finish El Camino. And, to me, it really didn't add anything significant. Just depressing really.
FFXIV music is so awesome
Ooof noooo my upvotes! Jk, glad you got it back up :D
What's the story about Jonathan banks getting the role because Bob couldn't make it to set?
Agree about Mike disagree about Gus
Gus was quite deep in bb infact he was given more nuance and depth in bb than bcs
But Mike I whole heartedly agree he's my favourite character in bcs
Honestly sometimes I wished Gus wasn't in bcs he was kinda ok in bb he was friendly a minute then could be the most threatening person idk in bcs that nuance was lost
Mike was quite layered in bb more now thanks to bcs but yea bcs really peeled the onion more
1.Mike Ehrmantraut (Kid named finger)
2.Howard Hamlin (The one pieeeeece! the one piece is real!!!!!)
3.Everybody else idk
Saul or Walter to me is very similar to Jordan vs Lebron.
commence operation "bully aleczandxr until he watches el camino"
Really sucks that they took it down, sorry
Dude, you should definitely see El Camino...
I’m sure it’s good but it isn’t something I feel any need to see. I’m just not interested for reasons explained in the video.
@@Aleczandxr alright man but if you don't want to see the conclusion to what was essentially a neo-western all along be a literal old west pistol duel, then idk what to say to ya bruh. pure perfect genrebending synergy for me.
The conclusion I’ve gotten is perfect. I don’t need anything more and I’m not convinced that El Camino was part of the overall initial plan anyhow. Especially not now that you seem to have spoiled it for me, lol.
The fun fact is most the characters are from BCS.

I love Lalo but his death was wack.
Sorry about the takedown.
Normally I comment on these to ask when you’re gonna make a video you never said you’d make, but I just thought I’d give a genuine comment for once and say that Rhea Seehorn’s first name is actually just pronounced “Ray”, not “Raya”, and it drives me so insane it’s not even funny.
Nice.
What about Marie!?!?!?!?

@@Aleczandxr thanks!
heretical. putting better call saul over walt I think is putting the shallower of the two on top. BCS is far more nuanced in its idea of causality, the schemes that jimmy come up with are clever and funny, and the show overall has a greater dynamic range.
just IMO.
None of this has anything to do with anything said in the video tho. I didn’t say which I preferred between BCS and BB.
@@Aleczandxr which do u prefer tho
I’m sorry man but lalo is too dam good lol if he was a breaking bad character…that man woulda been unstoppable. Man was too OP for a fair death
