I know guy from outside Macroom who's family has been making the stuff for years using potatoes...spudweiser they used to write on a blank white label on the bottle....
I used to buy it from an Irish guy who made it at home, starting it off in a twin tub washing machine, £5 for a milk bottle full, good stuff, pure blue flame on the spoon burn, no smoke or yellow flame,
That is my neck of the woods! It probably was illegal at the time of manufacture to consume in Ireland (commercially-produced stuff), but that old law is gone now and commercially made stuff can be sold in the Irish market. The anomaly was odd though by any standards. It lasted a few years.
My late father used to say that it's meant to be great for relieving aches and pains by rubbing it throughout your body parts (legs and arms) after a serious bout of strenuous activity? I suppose if you drank enough of it you'd more than likely end up not feeling or caring about the pain anyway? It is serious tack. I tried drinking it raw and couldn't believe how strong it tasted. I ended up mixing it with Red Bull and that still wasn't enough to dilute the taste. But, it was the drunkest I've ever been at that time. I think I was around 22. It was great to at least get to try it with my friends. I'm Irish and from Dundalk, Co. Louth, and it felt like a right of passage to us all. I bought a small Coke bottle's worth from a farmer in Cooley! We had to try it out! Though, once was more than enough. 😂😂😂
I love how the guard knows the exact mix and weights for the whole process 😂😂
“Really good stuff” 😆
I love how the poteen maker got away but all the Guards had to do was head down the pub and he was there having a drink
Glad that the Irish came across well in this clip
I agree, some foreign media try play up the stereotypes and it’s frustrating as an Irish person watching it.
My grandfather distilled "horse liniment" most of his life. I don't recall him ever having horses.....

@@magsoleary9955 That’s sad, it’s a dying tradition for sure.
I've had the pleasure of enjoying moonshine multiple times, it's just lovely! Especially when it's full moon, that's the most beautiful.
"Police say it's dangerous" so they all take a drink when they bust a still lol. High tech equipment... like walkie talkies from the 1040's

Gardai Christmas Party sorted
Me ma's uncle used to brew the stuff together with a few coppers, they are in on everything. Legalized gangsters haha
Bought a bottle of poitin here in Houston, Texas at Spec's Liquor. "Bunratty Potcheen, County Clare, Export Only", "Illegal to Consume in Ireland."

It’s not the same as the illegal poitin. The commercial stuff is far tamer.illegal stuff is still banned
Its not real, the genuine stuff is mental. When it comes in a glass lemonade bottle from the potato mans van then you have the real deal.
@@splo1nger909 have a bottle of it,still sealed must be 15 year old now . Made on an island in the corrib lake Galway!
