Thank you so much! This analysis is great! Generally speaking, the player in shadow won't be marked. So use a "link" to pass the ball to the free player - who stays in the shadow.
Another important detail is the direction of the shoulder for the pivots (the players stay in shadow). They should be towards the gate so that pivots can organize attacks and make penetration pass instead of pass backward.

For me by inventing this kind of play he is currently the best manager in the world. He is at least a couple of steps ahead of everyone else and we need to remember he has a good team which with his plays makes them play like an amazing one.
@@M-10Football Liverpool press like no one else so no they are not a lower team in respective of the result. Though since it is a new system some managers might sit deep and tight.
@Etienne Pace, of course I know Liverpool isn't a lower league team....De Zerbi has done this against Inter, Juve, Real Madrid and more top clubs so it's nothing new.
It will be interesting to see how teams approach playing Brighton next season, now their unique build up play is firmly on the radar of other clubs and how therefore Brighton and De Zerbi will adapt
Why doesn't Souness apologize to him? In September he insulted him, said he was inexperienced and worthless. But De Zerbi closed his mouth by beating Liverpool twice, a team Souness loves. Souness, start being a man, in Italy they welcomed you with love and admiration, you spat on an Italian worker in England, shame on you!!!
old guards will defame him because he hasnt win anything 😔 Same hate from all traditional club. Blue clubs (Chelsea and City) are welcoming for greatness
@@eavyeavy2864 I remember when the ridiculous Scottish commentator (ex player) Graeme Souness, welcomed De Zerbi, saying he was worthless and that it wasn't fair that he coached in England. But what are you waiting for to apologize to him?
I know Roberto very well. He was my neighbour for many years. Believe me, Dunk is the most important player in his philosophy, and Dunk is doing his job in a fantastic way.
Would be great to see a bit of resulting play after the pass, instead of cutting straight to the next sequence. It’s always interesting to see how the build up actually played out.
From what I've seen this buildup is best when inviting pressure, when Brighton are losing it doesn't work as well because the opponent is happy to sit back (Everton 5-1)
One mistake and disaster is in De Zerbi's method Through an old follow-up to the teams that De zerbi coached, the method was very effective with the teams that pressed, but the teams that retreated and practiced rebounds, De zerbi suffered with them ... Also, the teams coached by De zerbi rarely score from corner kicks despite their abundance, as well as set pieces
In the 1st phase of the build-up De Zerbi always try to have a numerical advantage so the idea is to find a free player...he sometimes uses the GK to achieve this or his #10 or #9 drop into the half spaces to assist with the buildup...it all depends on the number of players the opposition commits to the press.
@@M-10Football but If it stops the square passing between CBs, as 1 CB is permanently marked, would that limit the space they have to operate to be the side of the pitch that the other CB has possession
@Tony Ryan not necessarily...remember it is a numbers game....so most teams try to have overload at the back which means with Brighton having 3 forward the opponent would have 4...this would leave the opponent with 6 players to press vs Brighton's 7+GK. So in the build-up, Brighton always has a FREE player and this is who they try to find by any means. Notice when teams press them man to man they at times play long balls in the space behind for Mitoma and March.
I’d like to try man marking Dunk, then he’s out of the game. And/or playing a striker on the offside line between the 2 central defenders and press them from behind.
His CBs and Pivots are really narrow, he uses his front two as outlets by checking into the space between the wingers and pivots. Look at 2:37 if the opponents midfielders press the pivots the passing lane to the 10 and 9 are open. The full backs and wingers hugging the sideline creates the space for the 10 and 9 to check in.
If the midfielders of the opponent put high pressure on the two pivots, there will be a lot of free space for the 2 CAM's (10's). The CB's can simply skip the 2nd line of pressure by a longer ball on one of the two 10's. So his tactics definitely won't be easily stopped by high pressure.
This is way more attractive than tiki taka which is absolutely tedious to watch. 30 passes between CB and GK, 75% possession and still not scoring. 🤮 Zerbi ball, Sarri ball are way better for football.
He does try to play his smooth, slick passing game to create chances but based on what I've known of his teams, this kind of setup is where they normally have trouble. His teams are normally outdone on counterattack and if you watch closely you'll realize the team give up opportunities in that way every game.
@theophilus1077 The problem was the physicality of Everton. Brighton have so many small players on the front line it's hard to cope with evertons "big men". Everton are probably the worst match up for brighton in the prem
As I said before, I’m transition his teams are always going to be exposed so if you look closely into the Everton game you’ll recognize that the right side was exploited. If you notice he has used Caicedo at RB and Gross in midfield and that’s because Gross is slow in physical speed.
He good but i think he only suitable for mid table club only.if he go to top club i think he will not success coz top club to many pressure like potter go to chelsea before this.

His tactics are very mundane, it is based on attracting opposition pressure to create space, that will work only against lower league teams
@@Jykobe491 actually against lower teams which usually sit deeper it has less chance to work since many of them do not press at all.
So are you saying Liverpool is a lower league team? He has destroyed Liverpool with it.

A better pressing or a low block with counter-attacking is the best medicine against this style of football.

What would be the ideal no.9 in a de zerbi system? More of a false 9 or more of a natural striker?
Omg McTominay and Fred been staying in the pressing opponents shadow for years for Man United. So they weren't terrible in fact they were visionary 😮😮
Would a mid-block or a compact low-block (low intensity pressing) be effective against RDZ ball? It will effectively force them to build out wide
Based on his previous teams...this kind of approach works especially with teams who have good transitional threats.
