IT IS TIME BOYS Monogatari really is a one of a kind, genuinely impactful series. It's definitely bizarre but seeing it through to the end was one of the most rewarding experiences ever. Enjoy your time with this masterpiece:)
Monogatari is animated by studio SHAFT, the same as Madoka Magica. SHAFT has a very trademark headtilt that they like to do, once you notice that it's instantly recognizable. Monogatari loosely translates to "story", and every season has a different prefix. 'Bake' loosely translates to "monster, apparition or ghost", so this season could be considered "Monster Story or Ghost Story". This is a very dialogue driven show, with a lot of Japanese wordplay and folklore, so it can be hard to follow at times. But it is very rewarding for those that play close attention, so I'm sure you guys will love it!
This anime is based on light novels, so whenever you see text flash on screen you can assume it's lifted directly from the light novels. Nisioisin, the author, has a way of playing with the japanese language that is very unique and nearly untranslatable.
I must say, i hate Everything with ecchi... And yet, i love monogatari even though there are some very unnecessary moments, For me, this speaks volumes about how well written this series is
Glad to see you guys have finally made the journey. This is one of the best creations of the postmodern Japanese imagination since the 2000s. Enjoy your journey and keep thinking about what this story means. The journey will be long and sometimes painful, but eventually you will both return to your beloved home. As we have done.
I knew you would watch this. this is fantastic. the problem for most people with this show is finding a great translation. the problem is the author loves puns and grammar so English translations are hard... you got a good translation. All of the flashing text in this series are excerpts from the books, from lead ins to the scene that will follow the translation. you can usually skip it. but you guys do such a great job analyzing anime, i don't want to discourage you from doing what you do. sometimes those flashing text means something. or is good. Some things to remember about this show. the animation company is ACUTELY aware of who's the narrator. when Araragi isn't the narrator the whole style of the anime and world will change. the style we watch the majority of this show in, is from Araragi's viewpoint. I'll leave you to decide what that means. I really look forward to you guys eval of this one. this is a special anime. like legit special. and i think you'll love it. Oh and be careful about the openings and endings, this show is fiercely copyright protected around both. good luck! --One last note. the classroom scene in ep 1 is parodied in season 2 of Kaguya-sama, when Pres and Chika are strategizing about the election.
The Monogatari series contains a great many word plays peculiar to the Japanese language The series uses many expressions that are very difficult to translate, such as rhymes, euphemisms, homonyms and decomposition of kanji, so even native speakers of Japanese have a hard time understanding them At the same time, time sequence is not easy to understand, and the animation is difficult to understand, so it is not a work that can be enjoyed simply by watching That is why I believe that this is a work that is very suitable for those of you who value discussion and various considerations I am really looking forward to your reactions to the upcoming Monogatari series! (Please note that there may be some mistakes due to the use of a translator)
No "I know that song!" from Anna? What are the streaming services feeding people! The part where Senjougahara starts listing ingredients in grams comes right after Araragi says "what kind of equivalent exchange is that", so it's pretty safe to say it's joking reference to Fullmetal Alchemist.
I cannot even describe to you how excited I am for this, if you ever decide you want extra info on flash slides or quirky translations or anything just ask😅😅. I am waaay to obsessed with this show.
Man, this is crazy. This is probably one of the weirdest anime out there. And it's like you're "watching" a book instead of reading it. The thoughts that flash through a character's mind and all that is included. Even without the VAs or a narrator saying it out loud. And some people might find this anime a little too much yapping. But I personally like the dialogue. The fact that they can go on a tangent makes it more interesting to me. Anyway, there's so much good stuff in the channel right now. Heavenly Delusion was one nice surprise. But then we get Bakemonogatari now? You got some brain twisting anime in the lineup.
The Monogatari series is one of the greatest works of light novel and the anime is a visual treat. This will be a wild ride, just keep an open mind and consider all this is a young adult journey towards betterment. Good look editing
> Sen-jō-ga-ha-ra _sa-ma_ > say it properly! > Senjōgahara-chan * eye poke * I just love these word plays! (agh, there's definitely so many I just can't catch without understanding a lot more about Japanese)
The joke here is a bit untranslatable. What she actually said was : "don't say it in katakana" because he actually used katakana in the novel. Then she said "chanto ii nasai" that means "say it properly". However, it also could mean "'chan' to ii nasai" that means "say it with chan". That's why Araragi said "Senjogahara chan"
I love you guys for reacting to this, genuinely. I rarely comment but this series is wonderful yet strange. It's hard to recommend it to people despite it's wondrous dialogue and amazing characters. But you guys will definitely enjoy it.
It's been a week since the video was posted, so this is the second time I've posted a comment. What Oshino talks about in this first story and the second, the phenomena that occur in front of the characters' eyes, the word play in Japanese, the meaning of names in Japanese, the family name associated with the land, the fact that there is already a liar among the girls, being possessed, telling the truth, not telling the truth, how the apparitions are portrayed? It's quite important throughout the series.
Just because you're practicing to roll your Rs for foreign exchange, doesn't mean you should do it excessively. Even Italians roll their Rs once for theatrical effect, you know? Also, my name is Araragi.
And just like that I subscribed. Just for this one. Of course I will see whatever else picks my interest, but so few people actually react to the Monogatari Series that I just subbed

Oh wow, you guys are going down this rabbit hole. Well, you guys are the first reactors I have seen to react to this incredible anime…congratulations. Good luck and enjoy.
Apparently YT doesn't view my other comments favorably, so here's the most important point: Thank you so much for going with MTBB subs, but I don't think your player is handling them correctly. Maybe you could try mpv?
@@sensennisya557 The subs are flashing quite a bit, some seem misplaced and many also persist for like one extra frame after each shot ends. Are you saying this is all just their editing?
Since you two are already such huge fans of Kaguya-sama you might recognize the first scene between Araragi and Hanekawa! The Kaguya Anime very obviously referenced it once in a scene between Shirogane and Fujiwara, I think? Or were it two other characters? Maybe someone can remember it clearly and mention the exact episode as well. lmao, Ben is sometimes so gullible, it's cute. The line from Senjou about having thousands of thugs at her command was obviously a hyperbole/bluff so that Araragi wouldn't do anything to her in that abandoned building. She hides her insecurities behind insults and bold-faced but obvious lies.
Monogatari is very decisive. Not an anime that is advisable to a beginner or a shonen only fan. It is written by an intellectual, very versed in Japanese literature and very very perverted.
Nekomonogatari spoiler: This had just ocurred to me: Does Hanekawa say Senjō is prettier _now_ because she's closer to perfection without her "weight"? Hanekawa really values that, doesn't she
For the Monogatari Series, I think there is two watch orders. I think there is the chronological watch order, and there is the light novel order, which is the order in which the author of the original source the light novel (so books) intended. I think the light novel order is the more interesting to slowly uncover the different mysteries and lore bits one by one. If you decide to choose the light novel order this is it: 1. Bakemonogatari 2. Kizumonogatari (A movie in three parts) 3. Nisemonogatari 4. Nekomonogatari:Kuro 5. Monogatari Series: Second Season (the first two arcs) 6. Hanamonogatari 7. Monogatari Series: Second Season (the remaining arcs) 8. Tsukimonogatari 9. Koyomimonogatari 10. Owarimonogatari 11. Owarimonogatari Season 2 12. Zoku Owarimonogatari I'm personnally watching the light novel order right now.
i'm super stoked for your reactions on this series. after Semblance of Sanity and Teeaboo finished their reactions on this series with such critical and deep discussions, i just know i'll be getting the same from you guys. hope u two like it!
Yeah, those guys seem like right up Monogatari alley in terms of understanding themes and characters. It's my first time watching these guys react to anything. Heard a lot of good things about them from fellow Monogatari fans though. I recommend PinkCubed Monogatari reactions, tbh his discussions far exceed SOS's and even Teeaboo's in terms of digging deep into the themes and characters. Right now it's definitely the best Monogatari reactions for me, in terms of discussions. But AutoSave can probably rival PinkCubed, lots of those who watch him also praise Ben and Anna for the same things, how deep their understanding of themes and characters usually.
21:32 She already picked up on the Hanekawa Catch Phrase man I am proud of these two their reactions actually feel like an actual in-depth reaction 😂 and yes that line is going to be a thing from now on I should also warn everyone Monogatari's protagonist Araragi Koyomi is a downbad Lolicon and that's a good thing 32:22 Yeah they should get married 😂 32:57 Nah let me assure you this man is literally what you just now described He is the type of person that will try to find a happy end for everyone or choose the worst end for everyone, also jumps in to help almost anyone 34:07 Literally 3rd most explored character in the whole series I recommend not underestimating Hanekawa as a character she is too important for this plot also she is the cat 35:19 Oh you definitely haven't seen anything like the Monogatari series ever in your life and you probably never will cuz this show is a bit too unique and is probably one of the most unique story to have been ever written in the history of mankind that much I can assure you 12:52 this is a reference to FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST anime btw for anyone that missed it 36:15 the whole show is basically Araragi solving all sorts of supernatural problems ongoing with different people's lives 36:35 Monogatari is made by Studio Shaft the same studio who made Madoka Magica and Studio Bones made Mob Psyco 100 Steins;Gate was made by Studio White Fox 39:30 That regret isn't because of Senjogahara it's cuz of meeting Kissshot cuz of whom his life completely changed and he became a vampire and then got turned into a quasi human 40:35 Nah let me assure you out of all the Monogatari characters Senjogahara is the most human yet non human existence ever get perfection is downright inhumane but she is still a normal human
Araragi suddenly becoming a lolicon and later on a siscon when previously (well before the respective arcs) he was adamantly against both of those ideas is my favorite joke.
Don't get too bogged down about confusing references to other things and events, this series has a very disjointed timeline that weirdly works and you will understand things eventually, but it is one aspect of this series that makes it a very rewarding rewatch. It's a fairly dense show that has many aspects that can kinda put people off but it's legitimately one of my all time favorites, I think it rewards people that are able to be open minded and get on the same page as the show and are able to pay attention.
I really hope you guys have someone that know about this series and tell you the correct order to watch the whole series, because you could certainly watch in eny order, but there are clearly preferred lists out there that makes the series more clear. I’ve been watching anime since middle school, almost 15 years ago now, and I’d say nothing is like the Monogatari series: the shots, the characters, the art style, the decisions the characters make… truly the best of works, and the anime adaptation brought it to new peeks. Good luck

This is a very dialogue driven show, with a lot of Japanese wordplay and folklore, so it can be hard to follow at times. But it is very rewarding for those that play close attention, so I'm sure you guys will love it!
This is in my eyes amongst the top in the competition for the best anime ever created
What the...
Monogatari???
I'm so happy.
Now, is Delicious in Dungeon on your radar?
This anime is based on light novels, so whenever you see text flash on screen you can assume it's lifted directly from the light novels. Nisioisin, the author, has a way of playing with the japanese language that is very unique and nearly untranslatable.
my favourite reactors reacting to one of my favourite anime I CANT CONTAIN THE HYPE
I must say, i hate Everything with ecchi... And yet, i love monogatari even though there are some very unnecessary moments, For me, this speaks volumes about how well written this series is
My god, these two are so clever about their analysis that this will be an amazing watch!
17:00 KEEP THAT IN MIND. The author is very famous for playing with unreliable narrators
OHHH!! You're reacting to the Monogatari series! Let's goooo!!!!!
ok, it's time to revisit Kaguya-sama: Love is War 2x4
finally the story begins
The Monogatari series contains a great many word plays peculiar to the Japanese language
The series uses many expressions that are very difficult to translate, such as rhymes, euphemisms, homonyms and decomposition of kanji, so even native speakers of Japanese have a hard time understanding them
At the same time, time sequence is not easy to understand, and the animation is difficult to understand, so it is not a work that can be enjoyed simply by watching
That is why I believe that this is a work that is very suitable for those of you who value discussion and various considerations
I am really looking forward to your reactions to the upcoming Monogatari series!
You got some brain twisting anime in the lineup.
cant believe you guys are starting PEAK
Eps 2?
the withdrawal is real
Im totaly not refreshing my page after each hour lol
The Monogatari series is one of the greatest works of light novel and the anime is a visual treat. This will be a wild ride, just keep an open mind and consider all this is a young adult journey towards betterment. Good look editing
> Sen-jō-ga-ha-ra _sa-ma_
> say it properly!
> Senjōgahara-chan
* eye poke *
I just love these word plays! (agh, there's definitely so many I just can't catch without understanding a lot more about Japanese)
Arararagi
@@Denovis Now we've got an Aragari lol
I swear i never understood why Araragi said "senjougahara-chan" until recently
The joke here is a bit untranslatable.
What she actually said was : "don't say it in katakana" because he actually used katakana in the novel. Then she said "chanto ii nasai" that means "say it properly". However, it also could mean "'chan' to ii nasai" that means "say it with chan". That's why Araragi said "Senjogahara chan"
@@sapiboy2297 Woah! So even this joke is more intricate in the original
Start of a huuuge and great journey, hope you enjoy!
cant wait for episode 2
Love the cinematography of this one!
3:30 wait until he finds out this scene appear in kaguya-sama love is war as cameo
after all this time, it finally came
I came

I love you guys for reacting to this, genuinely. I rarely comment but this series is wonderful yet strange. It's hard to recommend it to people despite it's wondrous dialogue and amazing characters. But you guys will definitely enjoy it.
Please can you make a reaction to the film Alice in Borderland, as your subscribers and old viewers, I think AiB is a suitable TV show for you
It's been a week since the video was posted, so this is the second time I've posted a comment.
Monogatari is simply the best anime of all time. Point...blank...period.
peak
新しい“物語“の始まりですね!
Let's start a new story!!
A basic knowledge of Shinto will help you understand this show better.
Arararararararagi is here!
Alalalagi
Just because you're practicing to roll your Rs for foreign exchange, doesn't mean you should do it excessively. Even Italians roll their Rs once for theatrical effect, you know? Also, my name is Araragi.
And just like that I subscribed. Just for this one. Of course I will see whatever else picks my interest, but so few people actually react to the Monogatari Series that I just subbed
This is the first time that im seeing people reacting to monogatari series, i just want to say that i love your reactions guys and this is gonna be peak
📏このアニメのせいで文房具が怖くなった✍
How did you go from watching frieren, my favorite recent anime to watching monogatari, my favorite all time series. That's crazy
This is gonna be so good.
Oh wow, you guys are going down this rabbit hole. Well, you guys are the first reactors I have seen to react to this incredible anime…congratulations. Good luck and enjoy.
Apparently YT doesn't view my other comments favorably, so here's the most important point:
Thank you so much for going with MTBB subs, but I don't think your player is handling them correctly. Maybe you could try mpv?
@@sensennisya557 The subs are flashing quite a bit, some seem misplaced and many also persist for like one extra frame after each shot ends. Are you saying this is all just their editing?
Hope you guys enjoy the ride all the way through the seasons!
I just hope it isn't too soon to be exposing them to Monogatari's absurd levels of weirdness and degeneracy.
don't worry, they have trained their defence with MT
Since you two are already such huge fans of Kaguya-sama you might recognize the first scene between Araragi and Hanekawa! The Kaguya Anime very obviously referenced it once in a scene between Shirogane and Fujiwara, I think? Or were it two other characters? Maybe someone can remember it clearly and mention the exact episode as well.
lmao, Ben is sometimes so gullible, it's cute. The line from Senjou about having thousands of thugs at her command was obviously a hyperbole/bluff so that Araragi wouldn't do anything to her in that abandoned building. She hides her insecurities behind insults and bold-faced but obvious lies.
a lot of words 💀
Oh man, you guys are gonna make me finally watch Monogatari, well, it is was it is
You must be pragmatic guys, this is my favorite anime and you are my favorite reactors, I pray you like it
Monogatari is very decisive. Not an anime that is advisable to a beginner or a shonen only fan. It is written by an intellectual, very versed in Japanese literature and very very perverted.
Nekomonogatari spoiler:
This had just ocurred to me: Does Hanekawa say Senjō is prettier _now_ because she's closer to perfection without her "weight"? Hanekawa really values that, doesn't she
Smart bro theres another foreshadowing in that conversation for owarimono with Araragi saying "it has a nice democratic veneer"
@@tokotai1758 Yeah! And then the "do you like bananas?" exchange later on
If my profile pic doesn't give it away, I'm fucking ecstatic you're starting this series!
Get ready for an amazing time with all the Monogatari series!
If you decide to choose the light novel order this is it:
1. Bakemonogatari
2. Kizumonogatari (A movie in three parts)
3. Nisemonogatari
4. Nekomonogatari:Kuro
5. Monogatari Series: Second Season (the first two arcs)
6. Hanamonogatari
7. Monogatari Series: Second Season (the remaining arcs)
8. Tsukimonogatari
9. Koyomimonogatari
10. Owarimonogatari
11. Owarimonogatari Season 2
12. Zoku Owarimonogatari
I'm personnally watching the light novel order right now.
Hey, look! Another excuse for me to rewatch monogatari...
I can not formulate accurate words to describe seeing yal react to The monogatari series. It's one of my favs that people rarely talk about
楽しみです!!!!!!
かなり難しい言葉遊びだらけなのに海外で人気あるよなぁ物語シリーズ

you did it, YES< LETS GOOOO
After seeing their reaction and discussion they really are intelligent and hope they continue this peak story of my boy araragi

How i feel rn
this serie is good good, keep going.
i'm super stoked for your reactions on this series. after Semblance of Sanity and Teeaboo finished their reactions on this series with such critical and deep discussions, i just know i'll be getting the same from you guys. hope u two like it!
+1-ing pinkcubed dude is both pogged and philosophypilled
Brace yourselves for the best date episode in anime history ...just saying.
21:32 She already picked up on the Hanekawa Catch Phrase man I am proud of these two their reactions actually feel like an actual in-depth reaction 😂 and yes that line is going to be a thing from now on
I should also warn everyone Monogatari's protagonist Araragi Koyomi is a downbad Lolicon and that's a good thing
32:22 Yeah they should get married 😂
32:57 Nah let me assure you this man is literally what you just now described He is the type of person that will try to find a happy end for everyone or choose the worst end for everyone, also jumps in to help almost anyone
34:07 Literally 3rd most explored character in the whole series I recommend not underestimating Hanekawa as a character she is too important for this plot also she is the cat
35:19 Oh you definitely haven't seen anything like the Monogatari series ever in your life and you probably never will cuz this show is a bit too unique and is probably one of the most unique story to have been ever written in the history of mankind that much I can assure you
12:52 this is a reference to FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST anime btw for anyone that missed it
36:15 the whole show is basically Araragi solving all sorts of supernatural problems ongoing with different people's lives
36:35 Monogatari is made by Studio Shaft the same studio who made Madoka Magica and Studio Bones made Mob Psyco 100 Steins;Gate was made by Studio White Fox
39:30 That regret isn't because of Senjogahara it's cuz of meeting Kissshot cuz of whom his life completely changed and he became a vampire and then got turned into a quasi human
40:35 Nah let me assure you out of all the Monogatari characters Senjogahara is the most human yet non human existence ever get perfection is downright inhumane but she is still a normal human
Araragi suddenly becoming a lolicon and later on a siscon when previously (well before the respective arcs) he was adamantly against both of those ideas is my favorite joke.
have the same director as Madoka Magica’s, Akiyuki Shinbo, His works do have a strong personal artistic style
Lot of visual stuff in this show is metaphorical. Its very psychological anime.
Good luck
Monogatari series and Madoka Magica are made by same studio and bascially same staff, the supervisor are both Shinbo Akiyuki
Damnnn. My old anime😂.
I never expect anyone would react to this anime at this time because this anime been so old. Btw this anime story telling is masterpiece.
Still one of my fav anime, use to be popular anime back in the day.
Omg! Thank god, Thank you!!!
This is my favorite💖
Without getting into spoilers, this series gets better the more you understand it. I have watched the series 3 times and only when I read the LNs did I notice X or realize Y, etc.
🎉 Thank GOD. I can't express how happy I am. One of my favorite series of all time coming to my favorite reqction channel. Monogatari is exactly your type of anime. I am sure you will give it justice without skipping any detail. ❤❤
Ooohoho this series fits AutoSave.. seatbelts on! you're in for a ride.😏
