It came to a point where fans held their breath every single time Diaby came in for a tackle/challenge for the ball. Each tussle for the ball was potentially season-ending for him.
@@libanshirwac5102 Yeah,i didn't even get watch most of his games at arsenal except a few in 2012-2013 and forwards. I fell in love with his playstyle yet saw that he was lanky.
Four injury prone players: Diaby, Ramsey, Wilshere, and Rosicky. What great rotation for the trio in midfield: Wilshere, Diaby, Ramsey, Cazorla, Rosicky.
I was glad we got rid of Ramsey, he used to sell out his midfield team mates, game after game. His injury record didn't warrant a new contract, his Juventus record this season is 15 games, Ronaldo has played 30+
This guy used to wind me up as a Liverpool fan. Was injured 11 months a year but always came back in time to put in his prime Viera performance at Anfield. Same with Ledley King.
I swear to God the more I think of this guy the more I feel sad he didn't fulfil his potential. I thought he was the closest thing we got to replacing Vieira but injuries plagued his career. It's a massive shame indeed.
for me he used the ball way better than Vierra could and his passing and running with the ball was just good. May be tackling and leading but i have a feeling if he didnt get injured he would have been better than vierra
Could have been the new viera Arsenal were just unlucky with everything with all the talent we had only if the board were not frauds and someone actually cared all of them got us down
That Diaby/Arteta pivot was the closest Wenger came to recreating the Vieira/Petit partnership. I genuinely believe we could have won the title that year if Diaby had stayed fit.
I think Abou Diaby's display at Anfield that day was as dominant a display as I've ever seen from an individual Arsenal midfielder; if not for his injuries he had the potential to be even better than Patrick Vieira. Once a Gunner, always a Gunner Abou - you'll never be forgotten at Arsenal. Keep well.
He was SURELY better than Yaya toure at his absolute best. Being better than Viera isn't easy, as he was the Best CM In pl history but i get your point, Diaby was that good
I remember this day clearly man, I remember being so hyped for Diaby and our chances that year for the title. I thought this was finally Diabys time to announce himself to the world stage but sadly we know what happens to him 😢. I truly believed he would of gone on to eventually play for Madrid or Barcelona one day.
The Arsenal editors are killing it with these videos. Awesome way to appreciate our past players and shine some light on the clubs amazing history - especially at a depressing time like this. Makes me so proud to be a fan. Well done to the entire team behind this series, and the Arsenal classics that are being uploaded. Its fun to reminisce.
If only, I repeat ‘if only’ had his career not ruined by injuries we’d have won a few league titles till now. Many peoples blame Wenger for not replacing Vieira and Gilberto but the boss had Coquelin and Diaby as their replacement but sadly injuries ruined us.
Abou really enjoyed himself that day & I really enjoyed watching him that day, he was some player. You can see he would have been world class but for injurys.
I watched this game. This was his first comeback after months of injury. he picked up another injury after this game and sadly this was his last real game for arsenal.
Something was just up with our physio department and physical fitness, our players in that era used to pick up many injuries .....It's funny how Carzola once he left for Villarreal he hasn't been injury prone and plays 30 plus games in all competitions nowadays at age of 33/34/35
Andrew André the BPL is more demanding bro especially with Champions league football midweek than you had no winter break with all this intense games it was bound to happen either that or our players were not fit bro
Santi wasnt injured prone it was that one injury that took basically 2yrs to heal . i love wenger but i think it was his over using of santi that cuz that injury cuz santi played 99% of our matches and finished the full 90ty about 99% of time .its good and bad to that but sometimes its good to rest them .
One of my favourite individual performances ever. We’ll never know if he could have been the next Vieira, he had lots of average games too. Being capable of a performance like this doesn’t mean you’ll go on to do it week in week out. Just to give some balance Also, Diaby played with Giroud? Feels like two different eras
I think fitness was also partly a reason for his average games especially later on where he was never really 100%. Around 2009/10 he had a good run and was one of our best players which got him in the France world cup team. Our team had too many average players by that point though to achieve anything other than top 4 finishes.
The more i think about it. At times we legit had a very good side. We were very unluckg to have such injury prone players rosicky, wilshere, van persie, diaby and walcott.
He was the complete midfielder. So rare for a player of his size to be so agile and skillful yet powerful. His performances in the league cup final and this shown what we was about. This is probably still top 5 in terms of an individual performance from an Arsenal player this decade.
How I badly wish Diaby made it at Arsenal....Had be stay injury free we would have won at least one premier League especially in the 2011/12 season where Van Persie was on fire
He had so much potential. He was probably the only Arsenal player in that era that had both great technique and physicality. It breaks my heart everytime I see him injured and still is up to this day even on clips like this one, thinking what could have been.
He was. You can see their appearances were very similar. Vieira and Diaby were tall, strong, dominant on the field, and they both could pass well. It think Vieira was more defensive while Diaby was more offensive but they were still similar
