  • In this video, I go over the basic steps and materials construct wood turning carbide tools. I do have another video out there from a few years ago, but for some reason the audio was corrupted. One can use many methods to create wood turning tools, but is this just one of my many processes. I hope that you will enjoy this video.

    I create handmade, high quality wood pieces (and sometimes, crafts using other mediums such as natural stone or acrylic) that connect to people on an emotional level. Each piece is meticulously designed to look and feel like an art piece. I have always adored art, and have an underlining mission to incorporate my knowledge and skills into wood turning. With my videos, I hope to inspire and encourage others while promoting wood turning, experimentation, and safety. Please stay safe at all times!

Wood turning is inherently dangerous and is not intended for children. Now that that’s been stated, please go have fun.

    couple of comments, one why are you use traditional HSS chisels to rough the handle and not carbide and secondly why do you not key the steel before you glue it in to the handle, I know in this case the volume of wood glue will hold it probably in but normally over the years without keying it surely the bar would slide out on time from vibration. I would have thought a couple of slices or v's filed into the bar or angle grinder's in should suffice with epoxy to grip it?

      Sitges Villa Apartment thanks for watching, I use both carbide and HSS chisels. Depends on the wood type and what surface I want left on the wood. The bar was sanded a bit for a mechanical bond, but you are correct a notch would be superior. However, no issues thus far, cheers!

    Nice job Speros . What do you use to finish the steel? BTW I just sold that very same lathe with bed extension to get a Nova Galaxi. I loved it and hope I didn't make a mistake. Wanted to turn bigger wood.

    • @spwoodart
      @spwoodart  6 лет назад

      John May thank you John. I use the wd40 brand specialty lubricant to finish the steel. It’s the silicone base model, I’m not sure what it’s called but it dries fast. Oh, I was thinking of buying the same lathe, lol. I would be extremely interested in knowing about the nova, let me know what you think of the Galaxy. Thanks for watching.
