My grandfather was a Legend Of Zelda fan since the original on the NES back in 1986, he used to love watching you and Zeltik discuss the theories of the newer games and the subtle references/ tie ins to the games he played while raising a family. We played Ocarina of time, Majora’s, TP, SS as they released. And a little bit of Breath of the Wild last year before he realized it was all getting a little bit too complex for him to do much besides watch. When TOTK’s unnamed launch trailer came out we were so pumped for another open world adventure filled with what looked like traditional Zelda dungeons. Unfortunately he passed away suddenly last October before the development was completed. But I’ve been playing religiously in my own sort of celebration of his life and the absolute GIFT he gave to me by introducing me to the Legend of Zelda at such a young age. I wanted to explain so I could THANK you for all of this work you put into bringing this series into the spotlight for at least a handful of us dedicated fellows. I know you made his evenings when he’d load up his RUclips and see you uploaded that day. From one Hylian to another. Thank you.
The thing I'm loving the most about this game is how lively it feels, more than ever I feel like the whole Kingdom of hyrule with all the people feels way more active and generally more strong willed, it's like every character has something to do, something they want to and aren't stuck in one place
@@petratyraandersonIf you don't like the combat there's a lot of ways to cheese battles with fusing stuff, or you can build OP machines to destroy enemies. You don't have to get good at combat to beat the game.
@@PomuLeafEveryday I'd argue it's not cheese, it's a part of the game. If the enemies were easy then the game would be boring and you wouldn't need your new skills. You can't play it like BOTW and that's the best part.
I absolutely love the NPC’s and quests in this game. This game is the epitome of making a plan but then getting side tracked for 3-4 hours with 5 other quests 😂
Zelda knows how to give dark/scary moments without it feeling forced, that's why twilight princess, majora's mask and now tears of a kingdom feel so unique and fun to me.
Finished the Wind Temple yesterday, the post dungeon scene made me cry too. This game is literally a dream come true. Tulin is probably going to be my favorite for a while.
I didn’t think Tulin’s scene was overly emotional, but it was definitely sweet. Honestly Tulin has a special place in my heart, since during the associated boss battle when I was getting slapped around he kept saying “Link, are you okay??” 😅😂 I’m not an overly skilled gamer, so I heard this dozens of times 😂😂😂
I do wish they'd have figured out a way to have companions, but keep them from getting in the way. You go to pick something up, and you end up activating them on accident! Give me my personal space, Sidon!
The first Gloom Hands I saw surprise attacked me in a cave right in front of a shrine, and it freaked me out so much! Thank Hylia those things can't climb.
my first encounter was on my way to zora's domain. i was playing a horror game a little while before and was hoping i could finally calm my nerves but BOY WAS I WRONG
@@juliajohnson2285 Bro this game's sound design and music design is scientifically engineered to the highest quality and small detailed thought, and is made to maximize satisfaction. also love the water droplet sounds after you drop from a great height. This game shouldn't be real.😂😂
I love how Teba brought up Tulin. Teba knew Revali's mistakes, such as thinking he can take the world on alone, and Tulin was exactly like that. Maybe he picked up a few habits from Revali after going back in time in AoC. Tulin's ability is also evident of Teba's efforts to not make his son like Revali. Tulin's ability carries Link horizontally, whereas Revali's gale shoots Link vertically.
@A Rather Bri'ish Dinosaur if its not canon then that sucks. I loved the characters from botw go to that alternate timeline to help. Love the name and pfp by the way!
@Iron Pro yeah in the DLC there is a mission to rescue tulin and a couple cutscenes of Teba, Tulin and Revali and Tulin says that he looks up to Revali and someday wants to wield the Great Eagle Bow
At first I was like cool, we did the labryinth. "Go to the sky" Huh, ok, guess we're going up next. Nice, little followup for this, kind of a two parter but more reward. I'm up for that. "Dive from the sky all the way under the earth" .....ok this is freaking amazing.

I spent over 300hrs playing BotW and haven’t fully finished everything and until TotK I was still finding small side quests I haven’t seen before. TotK is so insanely packed I know I’m going to be playing this years and years to come and I’m just fine known I may never see it all. TotK is nuts in a way I’ve never seen in any art medium anywhere ever.
I randomly found it because I figured I’d try to see if I could climb something after I finished a quest and…there it was! So cool!! One of my favorite video game moments ever.
I feel like we're experiencing a golden age for Zelda games. Like this will not only be game changing for the series, but affect the gaming industry at large, going forward. And I have never been so excited post-release for an anticipated game. Great video. I look forward to more from you. :)
Agreed this game is unreal! Just today i finished all the dragon tears memories and i was balling like a baby! I haven't gone to any dungeons, just been exploring, finding shrines and opening the map! AMAZING!
The moment the realization dawned on me, my direction on how I want to approach the main story changed a lot. It truly became a quest after that point.
Man, when the game just casually gave me ultrahand and just reading the tiny tutorial on what it could do I remember thinking "Holy hell. This skill...people are going to do insane stuff with this." I was floored at the amount of freedom and creativity the devs gave us just from that first skill alone.
Same with Recall. I remember one time I was landing on the Light Dragon when a Star Fragment fell down right next to me. I really wanted it but didn't wanna miss out on getting the Dragon shards, and that's when I realized "wait a minute, I can just rewind the fragment back up".
Love how they still have if you go in any direction forgot how many minutes and you find something or something will happen. Great carry over from botw. Plus the little hints and nods to older games, you find through out the game.
I've shared this elsewhere but wanted to do my thoughts here as well regarding the "reused map". In fact, I think the better way to think of this is "reused geography" - and the distinction is so important... Imagine your buddy says to you "I grew up in San Francisco and I love that city so much. I haven't been back in 20 years because I'm not sure I'll find anything fun to do." Or: "I spent week in London 5 years ago and it is probably my favorite city. But I don't need to go back - I probably did everything fun already and I'm not sure it's changed enough since last time I was there." Replace "London" and "San Francisco" with your favorite city or national park: New York, Paris, Yosemite, the Grand Canyon... Those statements above would be patently ridiculous because our love of a place only *grows* when we have great past memories there. In fact, the person returning to one of these locations knows better how to enjoy that place than someone who's never been, and the small changes will trigger nostalgic dopamine and a sense of wonder for those things that have changed and evolved. Like seeing a movie that's set in a city you've loved, or taking a best friend to the haunts of your childhood, we should*expect* these experiences to be magical. Totk may have accidentally uncovered a new way to make amazing video games. Not by reusing the "map" but by bringing us back to a geography we loved - and by really investing in the evolution of that place as if it were a real and dynamic locale within the in-game universe.
This game has overwhelmed me a bit, admittedly. I haven't had as much time to play as I would have liked, so the feeling of missing something is very real to me. I set off towards Rito Village, like the game suggests, and got sidetracked in every direction imaginable. When I finally arrived yesterday, I had solved twenty temples, reclaimed my horses, jumped into several chasms and caves and realized that I hadn't been back on any Skylands and have nothing to keep me warm but roasted chilis. It's a lot, frankly
Divine beast criticisms confuse me so much. They did have very clear themes. Electricity, water, fire, and air. You had to use those elements extensively in the dungeons. It was maybe overshadowed by the move-the-beast gimmick but it was totally there.
They all looked the same. Interior wise. And all the shrines looked the same. So that made it worse. The themes didn't really do much with what the had. Just look at totk (or any other zelda game) in comparison
Everyone talks about the graphics, mechanics, and story, but I really think we need to talk about the game design more. When I started TotK, I was NOT interested in exploring the upside down or doing millions of crazy side quests when the story required my attention. It was with delight that the story pushed me beyond my comfort zone. A certain temple forces me into the depths, and curiosity made me go on side quests. The game design subtly introduced me into all these positions and with a snap a whole week passed me by just playing TotK. It was very overwhelming at first but the designers introduced everything (and things yet unknown to come) in such a way that I feel very comfortable! A masterpiece of design as well.
Spent 8 hours playing Friday and like 11 yesterday , I think it’s safe to say I’m hooked lol. Just finished the fire temple , the finally was really cool for us old Zelda fans.
this game feels like a fever dream… the vibes when we all first started the game, i know we all had the same vibes from it… the same way botw made us feel that certain way when we first played it… and i mean… the depths???? a whole new map to discover? shiiiit
In my opinion, Tears of the Kingdom only has 1 tiny problem: It makes Breath of the Wild feel like it was just a "Proof Of Concept", rather than a complete game. Don't misunderstand, I do like Breath of the Wild, but Tears of the Kingdom just took everything that was already there, and vastly improved upon it. There are more ways to get around, more things to do, more fun side-quests, the build-up to each Temple is arguably the best I've seen in a Zelda game yet, the Temples are a lot more varied, while still having the same core objective (activating a couple of terminals, then winning a boss-fight and claiming a heart container), the Shrines are a lot better in every way and there's a lot more enemy-variety and stuff to use monster parts for. At first, I was a little apprehensive, because it felt like a lot of the same all over again, but that feeling quickly vanished, after I started exploring this new version of Hyrule.
fun fact: there is a loading screen, but developers have learned to hide it. in another game it might be a spot where you squeeze through a tight spot, but here it's the sheer time spent falling. that amount of time allows them to load the Depths without feeling like a traditional loading screen. it was a great innovation that these developers built upon.
Bro you took the words out of my mouth, had a little tear running down the face too, especially at the rito boss fight and the goron aesthetics. The gerudo I was just in awe, but it all took me back to both wind waker and ocarina in this case, like being overfilled with that perfect feeling of nostalgia but yet in a new coat. Always thought the game was gonna be awesome but man I didn’t expect this
Opposite here... I didnt expect much because everybody was so overhyped about this Game... I truly belived it Just cant deliver based on that... And I was so wrong... Every layer has his purpose and the story is strong so far and amazingly locical... There is so much to do that you cant decide were to go... Hilorious...
I finally got the game Saturday night and when I got down to the surface (whilst on my way to the marker on my map), I was attacked by and actual tree, it just uprooted itself and began chasing me. To say I was shocked would be an understatement. This game is a amazing.
i literally just took a photo of a small forest on accident attempting to photograph hyrule herb, and was SUPER confused when the photos was added with a new monster entry. ran towards the forest, suddenly circled by three walking trees… so that was my first encounter.
The main thing I have found that changes my view is that the first area outside is Hyrule. Actual Hyrule. Until then, I have never explored the fields in fear of guardians making me just getting to Hyrule castle on the side. The fact I'm going outwards from the previously most dangerous area to other areas made me really confused on where I actually was.
@@jarlwhiterun7478 when I got to Hyrule Kingdom, it was in hyrule fields. The main quest line has you go into the new town nearby, and going out from there I had no idea where I was. This is BotW hyrule field i was exploring, the area which I didn’t explore at all because guardians were everywhere. The bizarre ability to just walk around it like you probably walked around Necluda in BotW
As someone who chose the Lighting Temple as my first dungeon, lets just say the gibdos are a little different in this iteration and they're not as threatening as they used to be.
This is skyward sword done right. with the the BOTW base plus some OOT elements (time travel shenanigans ) the novelty of Majora's Mask, imo an absolute award winning piece of art.
Its unreal how stable the game is. Its truly an invisible effect, but the extra year the developers spent on it to make sure nothing would randomly break or cause issues is so appreciated. It goes to show that making things and putting it into the world is important, but making sure nothing happens that you DONT want to happen is just as important.
This game is massive, some confusing aspects in regards to important events/characters not knowing Link somehow, malice hasn't been mentioned once (at least in my current goofing around) and there are still some small flaws. Overall, this game is a true gem or the series, feels almost right up there with Ocarina and TP, imo. Speaking of TP, it's not a spoiler, but there's a special bow you can find in Hyrule Castle, in one of the destroyed cones of a tower. It raises some questions for sure when you see its description. Adding onto this, Kolton 'could' possibly be our Tingle reference, as he wants to become a Satori.
He pretty much already seem like a Tingle. His shape, size, and obsession. The fact his shop looked like a balloon in BotW (it isn't... it is a cart, but gives balloon vibes if you don't look close).
I am loving that Like Likes are back. They’re so fun and satisfying to fight in this game. The sound that’s made when you smack their weak point is SOOO good
that is a really pretty thumbnail! And dude, I cannot wait for all the crazy totk content next month from everyone. I gotta say - and this might sound strange - but probably one of my favourite areas was the starting island. That feeling when I booted up the game for the first time was incredible, and I spent almost the whole day just exploring the beautiful area. Also, dungeons!!
Not only is the amount of side content massive, but the way they're implemented makes the world feel SO much more alive. Like every character has their own story they're living out that unfolds concurrently with yours. This is the first time a Zelda game - my favorite series since 1987 - has made me feel that way. It always took me out of it, how NPCs were so static, just signposts that always say the same thing. But they've *finally* put together that piece of the puzzle. TotK is the epitome of the kind of world I just want to *exist* in. Wake up early in Hateno, walk through a trail in the woods for some hunting and fishing, setting up a picnic for lunch, check in with your neighbors to see the latest scoop on the election, catch some of a lecture at the schoolhouse, go spelunking in a cave you just found that leads to riding a gigantic dragon through the depths, and ending the night by hitting up a concert at a stable and earning some Pony Points. I've played for 80 hours and I've barely scratched the surface. For a lifelong gamer, it truly is an unreal feeling.
What makes it unreal to me, is all the little character interactions Link can have. There's a woman in Kakariko Village, that will literally talk to Link all day if he gets into her small garden plot. At midnight, Link will be swaying with his eyes closed.
I absolutely adore this game so far - especially the richly fleshed-out overworld - but, for me, dungeons still manage to fall a little short of what I would have liked to see: I've completed three and, of these, only one has really fully lived up to my expectations in terms of scale, atmosphere, sense of exploration, and challenge. Of the other two, one was entirely too short and small (almost feeling like just a larger shrine puzzle with a boss at the end), though the lead-up and overall traversal were great, while the other sat somewhere in between. Don't get me wrong, they're still a MASSIVE improvement over the divine beasts and I'm having an absolute blast with the game as a whole but they still don't quite scratch the same itch for me that a good classic Zelda puzzle box dungeon would have.
i agree with you on this. i love the dungeons in this game i do but they’re still not true dungeons imo. i get why they didn’t return to classic true dungeons and it’s leagues better than botw but i’m with you that it doesn’t scratch the same itch. it’s a good medium though
@@derbar4340 goron wasn't fun imo. It was the 1st one I went to. It was alright but the cart system wasn't fun imo. It was definitely a good dungeon but not for me lol.
The caves and wells are my favorite. The depths are so dark and fun. I like putting a talus heart or a glowshroom on my shield. And I'm glad so far the sky islands are relaxing and easy-going. I'm glad they don't seem too tedious, at least so far.
What i love is you can ride the dragons now and they even have unique stuff on them, gibdos arent that scary, in my opinion they are more annoying than anything else
i went to do gerudo desert second, rode into that sand cloud, saw some of those and thought they were redeads, and noped tf outta there. im only doing the gerudo temple now as my last of the regional quest, and i feel silly now that i know how useless those guys are lmao
I dont get how people call the caves small but refer to the sky islands as a whole other map.. Hyrule got 3 ADDITIONAL maps plus the old one making it 4 total
Well... I see your point... Nevertheless the caves arent a map of itselfe its "just" the expansion of the known layout of the surface... A pretty good one nontheless
Some caves are small and have basically nothing. But the majority I've found are nice. Probably the same size as sky islands. That and the depths, it's 2.5x as big
Yes! This vid has come out! You said on stream you’d get in out! Thanks! Great video! I just completed the colluseum hyrule gamer! And it was SO hard! But the reward… Is noice.
The Floormasters are absolutely horrifying. The first one I found was when revisiting the Great Plateau, it almost had me boxed into a canyon and I managed to kill them for an even more horrifying surprise. I have no idea how I survived that encounter and won. If you're wondering why I'm calling them Floormasters and havn't killed one for yourself don't look into the read more . . . . The way they look and act feel like a call back more to the Floormasters of Wind Waker than Dead Hand, from the way they look with the dark redish purple base color with red edge glow to the way it can snatch and throw nearby objects and even deflect things thrown at them, and in WW their possible ties to the Phantom Ganons, from the way they look to when and where they start appearing, after you release Ganondorf's power, fighting your first Phantom in the Forsaken Fortress with 2 Floormasters showing up in nearby rooms aswell as them starting to show up in dungeons afterward.
I’m having a blast and I really haven’t done much except gotten to a number of Shrines (not done them) and unlocked about 6 Towers. 12 hours of goofing around just trying to unlock fast travel here and there. The Depths is so cool but only done about 1.5 hours there. It’s just super fun exploring around (caves and wells, like you said)! I’m going slow and taking my time!
They really didn’t need to add caves to this game. They already had a completely new underground map. But they added it anyway. This game is more than dlc
As someone who spends almost every spare moment I have playing this game, I have a fun little term for all those distractions. "Squirreling" is something that happens when you have a present destination in mind, but you end up enamored by everything along the way. So far, I've stumbled into a dungeon, went along with a main quest I had no interest in doing yet (great choice on my part) and spent many more hours enjoying a game more naturally than any DLC could do for me!
The new Cavemonkey enemy also reminded me of TP. Probably because they are so similar to the monkeys from the Forest Dungeon. The first time I encountered them I thought that their voices are exactly the same as the TP monkeys.
I love how new it felt, in spite of being in the same world. New things on the surface, plus extended above and below! I'm still playing 😁 as for Gibdos, they're cool, but I think I expected more in the world and for them be as scary, but they're not to me - no paralysing scream and so easy to beat with a quick elemental attack and a few sword swipes. But I still love to see them back and the new twists on them.
I love how a lot of people were originally worried for Recall's and Ascend's usefulness outside of very specific situations. Now Ascend is seen as a nearly essential shortcut and traversal tool with frequent use, and Recall is used almost constantly when your vehicle falls somewhere, or when you want to bypass your battery limit by keeping a vehicle in one position while it recharges. Both are even used in tandem with Ultrahand for easier flight with Wing Devices.
My boyfriend thinks it’s kind of funny how emotional I’ve gotten over certain aspects of totk. He’s only ever played Zelda games a few times with me on the 64 or the switch. Ya know for me some of my first and best memories are having snacks and pop with my dad while watching him play and teach me how to play ocarina of time. As I grew up all my uncles and my dad always got me the new Zelda games and systems to match. I had so much fun playing and feeling the adrenaline rush when my dad would deny me help with the monsters and dungeons and guide me through how to fight them without his help. The Lon Lon ranch song, eponas song, and the opening title music of Zelda games just makes my eyes well up. Remembering the best of my childhood and the fantasy of being a timeless hero from a little woodland town. It’s raw and inspiring and nostalgic. I don’t blame anyone for crying over a Zelda game, it’s a truly moving storyline and the music is genuinely breathtaking.
I agree with every point you make, Friend. For me I will say the story takes some huge bounds beyond BoTW. Specifically one where a certain character makes a huge decision and thus giving reason for the title of this game. I actually felt a jump in my black heart after watching this.
Funnily, the long caves through which you enter the underground are actually hiding a loading screen. Try building a flying machine and then go in the opposite direction and you will get some loading.
@@HyruleGamer Nintendo has always been a fan of hiding the loading Metroid Prime did it by delaying the doors opening so you could in theory still move look around at the environment. Though I wish the actual loading screens wouldn't go away until I hit confirm or something... Nintendo likes to use loading screen tips but the loading is too fast to read some of them. Lol
I was messing around in the Hyrule Castle depts, running away from every enemy I see, when I got suddenly corrnered by a Gibdos. Snapped a picture of that fricker and noped up the ceiling
5:28 i honestly disagree, because they STILL HAVE THE DAMN MEMORIES. I really wish we could've had a more in-depth story, no matter how indepth and cool it already is. not to say it was BAD (we all cried at the end), its just kinda annoying that we cant experience the birth of the demon king firsthand
When I first started TOTK, I was like “ok cool I’m going to do my own thing whatever. Not going to try progress the main story all that much”. In doing this I didn’t really have a wow moment like I did in the beginning of BotW. There was a lot of cool or this is awesome moments but not a wow one. And then I did the first memory quest and holy crap. I just beat the final boss and I can without a doubt say that TOTK is by far my favorite video game of all time. It was incredible and such a joy to play through. And all the criticisms levied against BotW were imo fixed and not just fixed but shattered all expectations of how they were going to be fixed. Honestly, 15/10 game
There are definitely loading screens between each of the 3 areas, beneath, above and sky. They are just disguised so well, and you control Link during the best one into the depths down chasms. It doesn't feel like a loading screen, but it totally is.
Blown away that they perfected the sandbox stuff by adding the zonai equipment and building, which involves very complex physics, while still building a massive game of unique content beyond that.
I totally agree with the distractions... I decided to unlock all of the towers first to make getting around Hyrule easier, but every time I unlock a tower, then I see a shrine... then I see some sky islands to explore, then I see something or someone that triggers a side quest, etc... and it just keeps going. I would note that doing the towers first also gives you the ability to do the glyphs early and see the story background before you start diving into the dungeons or main story quests... which I have enjoyed so far. I still haven't done a dungeon because I wanted to do some other stuff first, but getting closer to tackling the wind temple.
HEAVY SPOILER WARNING FOR STORYLINE/GAMEPLAY I really enjoyed my first temple, I went to the gerudo area first after seeing the pyramid in the trailers and I loved how their were unique regional enemies, an involved temple and all that, and I really loved the way the story was told. I was fascinated by the ancient sage telling the story of the Imprisoning war. Then I did my second area, the Rito one. Here there weren't any unique enemies and the temple was a huge step down. The other two were somewhere in between in enjoyment. Don't get me wrong, I had a great time, but that goes to show how much I loved the Gerudo questline! My biggest issue though, was when I finished the Rito questline and got to the Sage cutscene. They just... told the exact same story again??? I thought they were going to unravel different details about the Imprisoning war to each Sage so we could piece it all together, but no? That was such a wasted opportunity imo. That said, I really loved this games story and the way it told it. I think the memories kinda spoil some surprises, honestly I think they should have become available after doing the 4 regional phenomena, but overall the story in each region and the way the game wraps everything up is SO GOOD. The ending was much improved over BotW too! Unbelievable game, I still can't believe I was so invested in exploring Hyrule again. I've not been able to pick up BotW for more than 5 minutes without getting bored since I beat it. Master Mode just made the durability/tanky enemies problem worse so that didn't draw me in either. They changed so much and made it so enjoyable to see how things had changed around the kingdom and there are so many little unexpected surprises around every corner! Not to mention the building is insane, even if I end up feeling the same way about this game as BotW in terms of exploration, the experimentation and creation of machines will keep me drawn in! Sorry for the ramble, but thanks for reading if you got this far
the horriblins probably remind you of twilight princess, because of the monkeys from the first dungeon! also their cry when they fall from the ceiling sounds EXACTLY like the bokoblin cries from skyward sword.
One other thing I absolutely love about this game is you can replay the bosses in the Underground section, respawning with blood moons The Hebra boss fight is my fave
"why does it feel so unreal?" idk, sky islands, monsters, literal gods, the devil personified, time travel, hoverbikes made out of two fans, the sandbox style it has, etc didnt even watch the video, but i found the title funny lol
I’m pretty sure the Depths was designed to be deep enough so it can be loaded within the time it takes to dive down. Just an optimization only first party games can achieve
I still haven’t killed one yet, but the gloom hands I think are the thing that solidified this as not just my favorite Zelda game, but just my favorite game period. I went in as blind as possible cause I wasn’t able to with BotW, so after exploring for hours and just consistently being impressed by the new additions and hidden secrets, stumbling upon a random cave and getting jumped by the hands with the music and the way they just glide over to you it was just, AAAHAHHHHHHH. I was literally silent, with my jaw on the floor lol. Like I expected it to be darker than BotW but I never had an “oh my god no I am gonna die” moment so suddenly in a game like that
I don’t know how they will top this game in the future. It’s just so good. My favorite video game experience so far. I see areas that could be improved, but it’s a ton of fun. Like. Just so much fun. I think caves are super important for making the overworld feel fresh again. I was worried about that, but I needn’t have been.
love the video and the passion. quick note tho… the dive into the depths is basically a hidden loading screen. god of war and tony hawks pro skater have been doing this for years… giant empty area before the next area usually means hidden loading screen. just a nit picky thing i wanted to mention. anyways… LOVE THE VIDEO!
the fall from the surface to the depths is the hidden loading screen, if you speedy freefall into a chasm you get the same movement freeze as with quick bomb jumps in botw
ToTK is a technical marvel the software engineers at Monolith Soft and Nintendo must surely be the best in the world at what they do. to get this running on switch WITH a complex physics simulation as well is simply unreal
The game genuinely fells like they took a ton of DLC ideas and mushed them all together, in the best way possible. It makes the game mechanics in BOTW seem half-baked by comparison. A prime example of this is the great fairies, where you have to complete a sidequest to unlock them, rather than just paying a bunch of rupees. Another is the skyview towers- each is like a mini puzzle you have to solve to unlock, as opposed to some being more annoying to climb. The skyview towers shooting you so high up also helps fix repetition of BOTW's world- you barely have to walk on the ground, you can simply go to the tower closest to your destination, and paraglide down. This means you can spend more time exploring, and less time traveling. Speaking as a developer; I can see why the game needed all these years of development time. The massive technical and non-technical improvements over BOTW are incredible. Also, there is a loading screen between the surface and the depths- it's just disguised as a massive dive through a big hole. (The fact you didn't notice speaks volumes about the quality of the psychological design of the game) One last thing I really loved is how much more alive the world feels. NPCs recognize when it's raining, what time of day it is, what point in the story you are at, and incorporate it into their dialog. Some of them recognize you as Link immediately, and they all remember previous encounters with you when you talk to them again. Story spoiler free review for final boss below: The set-piece final boss phase is SO much better than BOTW's, but WHAT was that middle phase!? Addendum with story+gameplay spoilers below: LIKE SERIOUSLY, THE WHOLE POINT WAS TO USE THE MASTER SWORD TO KILL GANONDORF, BUT THEN YOU CAN'T EVEN HIT HIM WITH A MELEE ATTACK!? LIKE, THE PART WHERE YOU *HAVE* TO FLURRY RUSH HIM IS FINE, BUT THEN THAT STOPS WORKING!? I HAD TO JUST SPAM HIM WITH GIBDO-BONE ARROWS TO KNOCK OUT THE SECOND HALF OF PHASE 2! IF HE'S VULNERABLE TO ARROWS, WHAT WAS THE POINT OF RESTORING THE MASTER SWORD?
I’m very new to the Zelda franchise. I have acknowledged it’s existence for years and I even bought botw back in 2018 but the appeal of Zelda didn’t really reach me. I picked up Totk and I went into it expecting to drop it after some time but during my play through of the great sky island I gradually fell in love with the game. Nowadays, I’m sad because I was too careless with my botw copy and I lost it, I wish I could go back to the roots of Totk.
It took me 18 hours to get to roto village because I would head that direction, something would catch me eye, I would do that, then ANOTHER thing would catch my eye
There "is" technically a loading "screen", but it's hidden. Note how much time it takes to transition between zones. It's the same effect that No Man's Sky uses which is a wider scoped "duck under a small passage" technique that games like GoW uses. It feels seamless, and it's awesome. Big thanks to Hello Games for really expanding this kind of technique. Nintendo does it better, naturally.
I met some gibdos, and being an old-school Zelda I fan, I was delighted. They are horrifying, and thought, 'I didn't have too bad a time with them.' Then I saw the other gibdos. They are a fun battle and aren't just another moblin, bokoblin, or lizal. Speaking of lizals, their horns make great weapon enhancements when battling gibdos.

I didn't like the whole weapon fuse thing at first, but I'm coming around to it.
Gibdos are actually kinda scary
Everything! Same as wrathblade, but one thing is the mini battles you can find with constructs V books!
FYI, the gibdo’s are creepy AF!
Thank you.
That’s so wholesome. I’m sure he’s looking down on TotK with a smile.
God Bless you and your Grandfather may he rest in peace. What a beautiful way to remember him, happy gaming friend! =)
This is so beautiful. Thank you for sharing your grandfather with us and I love that you have this incredible game to honor him with

The thing I'm loving the most about this game is how lively it feels, more than ever I feel like the whole Kingdom of hyrule with all the people feels way more active and generally more strong willed, it's like every character has something to do, something they want to and aren't stuck in one place
Seriously it feels like there's a lot more activity from npcs still wish they hadn't made it "Zelda souls"
I know this makes me play for at least 7 hours a day😅

@@petratyraanderson souls? How?
@@PomuLeafEveryday I'd argue it's not cheese, it's a part of the game. If the enemies were easy then the game would be boring and you wouldn't need your new skills. You can't play it like BOTW and that's the best part.
I absolutely love the NPC’s and quests in this game.
This game is the epitome of making a plan but then getting side tracked for 3-4 hours with 5 other quests 😂
Me too, this game is so fun!
You ain't kidding. Sometimes I get so lost I forget what I had been originally trying to do 😂
That is so true...
I already loved botw way to alter Links abilities due to clothing... And there are so many new usefull armors in the Game...
Same !!!
I can't stop playing this game 😅😂
Zelda knows how to give dark/scary moments without it feeling forced, that's why twilight princess, majora's mask and now tears of a kingdom feel so unique and fun to me.
Finished the Wind Temple yesterday, the post dungeon scene made me cry too. This game is literally a dream come true. Tulin is probably going to be my favorite for a while.
Riju is mine, I love how she doesn't second guess taking the tear, & says "I get to fight along side you? Count me in". ❤
Tulin is the sage I always use in gameplay, especially during gliding in the air and the rest are only called upon during monster fights
I didn’t think Tulin’s scene was overly emotional, but it was definitely sweet.
Honestly Tulin has a special place in my heart, since during the associated boss battle when I was getting slapped around he kept saying “Link, are you okay??” 😅😂
I’m not an overly skilled gamer, so I heard this dozens of times 😂😂😂
He’s the best cause he’s voiced by the va for killua
I do wish they'd have figured out a way to have companions, but keep them from getting in the way. You go to pick something up, and you end up activating them on accident! Give me my personal space, Sidon!
The first Gloom Hands I saw surprise attacked me in a cave right in front of a shrine, and it freaked me out so much! Thank Hylia those things can't climb.
They can climb 😢 at least a little- they followed me up a shallow cliff
my first encounter was on my way to zora's domain.

AoC isn’t canon I don’t think but you still have a point
@A Rather Bri'ish Dinosaur if its not canon then that sucks. I loved the characters from botw go to that alternate timeline to help. Love the name and pfp by the way!

The way all the layers are woven together is astonishing
The Lomei Labyrinths are a prime example of this
Not only that, the map of the depths is just the inverse of the suface. Mountains are valleys, etcetera and vice-versa
Those labyrinths blew my mind! They were so cool.
At first I was like cool, we did the labryinth. "Go to the sky" Huh, ok, guess we're going up next. Nice, little followup for this, kind of a two parter but more reward. I'm up for that. "Dive from the sky all the way under the earth" .....ok this is freaking amazing.

@Mingyu Huang Don't even get me started with the sound design the game has, especially compared to BotW. It is truly a visual and audible experience.

AMAZING!
THE TEARS ARE REAL RIGHT!?
I did the same thing

I set out with the same plan. I'm currently planning what to do with the 'tears' information. I'm thinking I might be doing some targeted skydiving.
The moment the realization dawned on me, my direction on how I want to approach the main story changed a lot. It truly became a quest after that point.
Without going into specifics, there's things in this game that give me Wind Waker vibes. And I love it.
Ultrahand is very useful, but ascend is underrated
I use it all over the place lol. :)
All the abilities are so, so good! But I like ascend as well!!
Man, when the game just casually gave me ultrahand and just reading the tiny tutorial on what it could do I remember thinking "Holy hell. This skill...people are going to do insane stuff with this." I was floored at the amount of freedom and creativity the devs gave us just from that first skill alone.
Under-utilized, I don't think anyone under-rates insta-climb lol
Same with Recall. I remember one time I was landing on the Light Dragon when a Star Fragment fell down right next to me. I really wanted it but didn't wanna miss out on getting the Dragon shards, and that's when I realized "wait a minute, I can just rewind the fragment back up".
Love how they still have if you go in any direction forgot how many minutes and you find something or something will happen. Great carry over from botw. Plus the little hints and nods to older games, you find through out the game.
use punctuation bro
Yup yesterday I went to see what happened to the shrine in hayeno village and ended up finding and exploring a well
what are you saying
EXTREMELY very well put. Underrated comment.
The criticism is that the weren't "visually" different. I agree that they had clear elemental themes in their puzzles.
They all looked the same. Interior wise. And all the shrines looked the same. So that made it worse. The themes didn't really do much with what the had. Just look at totk (or any other zelda game) in comparison
There's so much content it feels overwhelming and I love that
Exactly!
A masterpiece of design as well.
this is exactly how i feel
Spent 8 hours playing Friday and like 11 yesterday , I think it’s safe to say I’m hooked lol. Just finished the fire temple , the finally was really cool for us old Zelda fans.
As a teacher I'm so glad it came out in summer. I'm able to push aside my lesson planning for a month or two and just enjoy tears of the kingdom
this game feels like a fever dream… the vibes when we all first started the game, i know we all had the same vibes from it… the same way botw made us feel that certain way when we first played it… and i mean… the depths???? a whole new map to discover? shiiiit
14:02 I’ve died more this past week in TotK than in 300hrs of BotW.
Evolution
Yeah, it'll be hard to go back to botw honestly.
All I do is play the game till 4 am😂😂😂
fun fact: there is a loading screen, but developers have learned to hide it. in another game it might be a spot where you squeeze through a tight spot, but here it's the sheer time spent falling. that amount of time allows them to load the Depths without feeling like a traditional loading screen. it was a great innovation that these developers built upon.

Most games are set in Hyrule, including BotW. What are you on about?
@@jarlwhiterun7478 when I got to Hyrule Kingdom, it was in hyrule fields. The main quest line has you go into the new town nearby, and going out from there I had no idea where I was. This is BotW hyrule field i was exploring, the area which I didn’t explore at all because guardians were everywhere. The bizarre ability to just walk around it like you probably walked around Necluda in BotW
tears of the kingdom is just surreal!! i am loving the game!! 🤩
Indeed!
As someone who chose the Lighting Temple as my first dungeon, lets just say the gibdos are a little different in this iteration and they're not as threatening as they used to be.
I was more a fan of the OoT gibdos as much as they were nightmare fuel as a kid
This is skyward sword done right. with the the BOTW base plus some OOT elements (time travel shenanigans ) the novelty of Majora's Mask, imo an absolute award winning piece of art.
What elements from Majora's mask if you don't mind me asking? It was one of my favorite Zelda games. And you can have bases in this game?
@@DWAC darker?(some what)
@@DWAC I think the comment is referring to the 4 areas that are having some kind of geographical disaster/problem and the atmosphere.
Hello Hyrule Gamer RUclips channel viewers.
Hello friend
Hello fellow silly goober
Hi
Hello there
This game is massive, some confusing aspects in regards to important events/characters not knowing Link somehow, malice hasn't been mentioned once (at least in my current goofing around) and there are still some small flaws.
The sound that’s made when you smack their weak point is SOOO good
Same, they're awesome!
that is a really pretty thumbnail!
Thanks a lot Sledgen! Likewise, the content is gonna be FLOWING out like the River Hylia 🤣
I've spent 20 hours just in the underground and only have half of it mapped.
Half in 20hrs?! I too like to rush but even I like to take my time 😂
What makes it unreal to me, is all the little character interactions Link can have.
I guess the one you haven't played yet is the gerudo dungeon. From what I've heard it's one of the bigger dungeon, similar to goron :)
i agree with you on this. i love the dungeons in this game i do but they’re still not true dungeons imo. i get why they didn’t return to classic true dungeons and it’s leagues better than botw but i’m with you that it doesn’t scratch the same itch. it’s a good medium though

I got used to seeing them, but they’re still creepy
This is probably the best Zelda game I’ve ever played.
So far my only gripe is I don’t have enough time to play it. Responsibilities be damned!
The Floormasters are absolutely horrifying. The first one I found was when revisiting the Great Plateau, it almost had me boxed into a canyon and I managed to kill them for an even more horrifying surprise. I have no idea how I survived that encounter and won.
If you're wondering why I'm calling them Floormasters and havn't killed one for yourself don't look into the read more
.
.
.
I fished this game(final boss) and said to myself I have not had more fun playing a video game ever
Do the rito village quest, it will help you
They really didn’t need to add caves to this game.
The Wind Waker trick.
Putting distance between the islands was Nintendo's way of letting the islands load without a screen.
Of course there is loading, but no screen. It's hidden well.
Lol
@@verdantmistral442 agreed
I was messing around in the Hyrule Castle depts, running away from every enemy I see, when I got suddenly corrnered by a Gibdos.
Snapped a picture of that fricker and noped up the ceiling
I love the depths and cavernous systems in this game, I like caves and the underworld like area is absolutely amazing
I upgraded the wing suit and it's my fave
The Gibdos were pretty tough until i realized they reaaalllllly dont like fire.
Also, the rocket shield is really useful for shrines and other things.
You can use any element. Fire, ice, electricity, water, will break their resistance.
@@vindrmasuta ah. I hadn't figured that out yet. Thanks for the tip.
Sunlight as well. Use a mirror shield on pretty much any enemy and it dazzles them. Use it on gibdos and it exposes their weakness
@@KaitouKaiju mirror shield???? That exists??
I’ve practically been playing the game as much as I can it’s my new favourite, I wanna find the lynels though(it made me cry)
70 hours in and I have still barely touched the underground. Going to feel like a whole separate game when I finally get to it.
HEAVY SPOILER WARNING FOR STORYLINE/GAMEPLAY
I really enjoyed my first temple, I went to the gerudo area first after seeing the pyramid in the trailers and I loved how their were unique regional enemies, an involved temple and all that, and I really loved the way the story was told.
Make sure to report the bot if you see this
the horriblins probably remind you of twilight princess, because of the monkeys from the first dungeon! also their cry when they fall from the ceiling sounds EXACTLY like the bokoblin cries from skyward sword.
One other thing I absolutely love about this game is you can replay the bosses in the Underground section, respawning with blood moons
The Hebra boss fight is my fave
"why does it feel so unreal?"
idk, sky islands, monsters, literal gods, the devil personified, time travel, hoverbikes made out of two fans, the sandbox style it has, etc
didnt even watch the video, but i found the title funny lol
It is really incredible how they were able to make a map I felt I knew like the back of my hand, new and explorable
Right!?
Like I expected it to be darker than BotW but I never had an “oh my god no I am gonna die” moment so suddenly in a game like that
You have to beat one..
TotK is divisive: If you like "writing" your own narrative, it's your bag. If you like a more curated experience, then not so much.
TOTK is amazing. It makes me think im dreaming. Hold on, i have to pinch myself. Nope, im not dreaming🤣
14:17 As soon as I saw them for the first time this morning I immediately dubbed them Gloom Floormasters
🤣
I don’t know how they will top this game in the future. It’s just so good. My favorite video game experience so far.
I see areas that could be improved, but it’s a ton of fun. Like. Just so much fun.
I think caves are super important for making the overworld feel fresh again. I was worried about that, but I needn’t have been.
Tears of the Kingdom is absolutely the best open world game I've ever played.
It's definitely the most free gaming experience besides minecraft
love the video and the passion. quick note tho… the dive into the depths is basically a hidden loading screen. god of war and tony hawks pro skater have been doing this for years… giant empty area before the next area usually means hidden loading screen. just a nit picky thing i wanted to mention. anyways… LOVE THE VIDEO!
the fall from the surface to the depths is the hidden loading screen, if you speedy freefall into a chasm you get the same movement freeze as with quick bomb jumps in botw
ToTK is a technical marvel the software engineers at Monolith Soft and Nintendo must surely be the best in the world at what they do. to get this running on switch WITH a complex physics simulation as well is simply unreal
This game, plus the shield jumping glitch is top tier fun. Just a huge open world and no more worrying about resources is amazing. Lol
(The fact you didn't notice speaks volumes about the quality of the psychological design of the game)
One last thing I really loved is how much more alive the world feels. NPCs recognize when it's raining, what time of day it is, what point in the story you are at, and incorporate it into their dialog. Some of them recognize you as Link immediately, and they all remember previous encounters with you when you talk to them again.
Story spoiler free review for final boss below:
The set-piece final boss phase is SO much better than BOTW's, but WHAT was that middle phase!?
Addendum with story+gameplay spoilers below:
LIKE SERIOUSLY, THE WHOLE POINT WAS TO USE THE MASTER SWORD TO KILL GANONDORF, BUT THEN YOU CAN'T EVEN HIT HIM WITH A MELEE ATTACK!? LIKE, THE PART WHERE YOU *HAVE* TO FLURRY RUSH HIM IS FINE, BUT THEN THAT STOPS WORKING!? I HAD TO JUST SPAM HIM WITH GIBDO-BONE ARROWS TO KNOCK OUT THE SECOND HALF OF PHASE 2! IF HE'S VULNERABLE TO ARROWS, WHAT WAS THE POINT OF RESTORING THE MASTER SWORD?
My favorite thing to add to the vibes of the depths is to play the twilight music from Twilight Princess
I need all the lore videos asap. I have so many questions 😂😂
They flipped everything i knew abiut zelda on its head
It took me 18 hours to get to roto village because I would head that direction, something would catch me eye, I would do that, then ANOTHER thing would catch my eye
Legend says that Hyrule gamer the best youtuber will pin this.
