I like that process and based on voice alone you Brits made a good choice! I quite like the British House of Commons. While it's often seen as unruly now a days IMO it's Parliamentarians acting exactly as they were intended to. Those MPs are worth their salt exactly because they haven't just done the easy thing and let Brexit slide through and ruin the country. They've done the hard work to fight it out and look for solutions despite the fact that it's a true no-win scenario where you can't Brexit because of Northern Ireland and you can't revoke Article 50 because that'd be undemocratic.

The Deputy Speaker and Chair of Ways and Means, and the First and Second Deputy Chairs of Ways and Means since 2010 have been elected similarly to how the Speaker is. However, for instance Speaker Hoyle coming from Labour, the Deputy Speaker must come from the other side of the Commons. In this case, the Conservatives. I could be wrong but just out of prediction and if certain MPs are reelected, I think Dame Eleanor Laing will become Deputy Speaker, Dame Rosie Winterton, the First Deputy, and Sir Edward Leigh, the Second Deputy.

You need to do a video on the pomp and ceremony of the Royal Confirmation. Not sure who some of the people were and where all that ceremony comes from.
Three hat-tips to leave etc etc. Really fascinating. Also where was the mention of the prime minister talking before the mace was in place lol

Doesn't Hoyle have the vibe of a modern, stronger Weatherill? What were the differences between the speakers from World War 2 onwards?
How about a video talking about the speakers from Edward FitzRoy (1928-1943, he was important) to Hoyle, highlighting their differences and shared commonalities?

@@jorenbaplu5100 I just think that it's interesting to know, that's all^^ Bercow was first elected in 2009, here's a list of all speakers since FitzRoy:
      2019 Sir Lindsay Hoyle
      2009-2019 John Bercow (ORDAH!)
      2000-2009 Michael Martin
1992-2000 Betty Boothroyd (very famous and beloved Speaker)
      1983-1992 Bernard Weatherill
      1976-1983 George Thomas
      1971-1976 Selwyn Lloyd
      1965-1971 Dr. Horace King
      1959-1965 Sir Harry Hylton-Foster
      1951-1959 William Morrison
      1943-1951 Douglas Clifton Brown
1928-1943 Edward FitzRoy (another famous one)
Btw, every Speaker also has a dedicated Portrait which can be seen in the Commons Gallery and also online.
They all look great and i wouldn't say that i'm biased but in principle, i still think that Bercow's Portrait looks best-showing a modern Speaker in the fray, doing what he loved most :)

By convention the Speaker severs all ties with his or her political party while in office, as it is considered essential that the Speaker be seen as an impartial presiding officer. By current convention, the speaker's deputies, who also do not vote, consist of one member from the Speaker's former party, and two from the other side of the house. Thus there is no net voting power lost for either the government or the opposition. If the current speaker decides to contest a general election, they do not stand under a party label, but are entitled to describe themselves on the ballot as "The Speaker seeking re-election", under the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act. Generally, the major parties do not stand against the speaker.

Many public places have a box of poppy pins and a donation box. You put whatever amount you can spare in and take a poppy pin. I think it's rather lovely way of celebrating our fallen.
