I suddenly have roughly 15 to 20 hawks that gather on trees above my house. It started with 3 a few weeks or months ago. But last night we realized that we had a huge number of them right above us! We have 3 small dogs - all from roughly 12 to 18 lbs. should we be worried? And if so, what can we do to get them to leave?
For the last 25yrs I have only flown Redtails. It is a great bird to fly. The key in my opinion is fitness and weight control.. Excelllent on grey squirrels.
well I knew I messed up hooding my harris's . had rts never had hood issues at any age. But my harris's is a night mare and the FOMO comparison is exactly what it's like. My RT's were passage so the motivation to the glove wasn't an issue but the fitness was the challenge, specially the second season . RT's need more lure work for fitness
I agree with the redtail on grey squirrels idea. I think it's in their DNA because they evolved together in the same habitat. We have redtails in our neighborhood who regularly pursue squirrels. We had one make a kill in the front yard not long ago. We have a lot more squirrels than rabbits in the suburbs and I think because of the volume of them the birds have a lot more opportunities. Many American falconers hunt squirrels on RUclips. Redtails seem pretty fearless. Thanks for a great comparison!
Great video. In Houston I morphed from all rabbits to all squirrels with my Red-tail over the last nineteen years. Rabbits are beyond scarce. I also fly a 2010 female HH. Terrific rabbit hawk but chases birds these days.
Flying hawks in the states for over 3 decades I now can say with certainty that the early taken passage RTH is second to no one on squirrels, rabbits and hares. The big gaps that I see in performance are attributable to the falconer (most of time). I am comparing apples to apples. One hawk not a gang of hawks and I am not comparing them to eagles . They are not as easy as Harris hawks, nothing is. And they require to be flown more than just on the weekends. With that being said I have never flown a captive raised RTH . I have flown many Harris hawks and accipiters. Consider them as hawk eagles and train them accordingly. Good luck & happy hunting.
Hi Dave another great video dont worry about the length of your videos just do them as long as you think the subject needs
Thankyou
