I made one similar to that. It's a bit longer, holding 34-35 frames. I also made a two-step rabbet: the lower one holds the frames and the upper one holds the covering boards. That way the top closes flush with the frame.
I have another hive that holds 30+ frames. I prefer and, more importantly bees seem to as well, this set up. Double brood box base and just add supers.
Hey this is pretty awesome! Have you reached out to Dr Leo and asked how this might impact bees w/ the natural bee keeping method? I subscribe to it with Layens deep frames, but it'd be nice to be able to make some products that integrate to the Langstroth market. I know the book basically suggests we DONT stack, unstack etc etc as its disturbing. And most honey collection is done from the outside edges.

I really like this design. You combined the best of both worlds!
I made mine over 48” and it holds 42 frames roughly, this seems like a much better brood management than the typical set up

Dude !! That’s a great idea!!!
Am I seeing things?
Or am I in a dream

Looking at this design for the coming spring, 2023, did it work for you ?
It did work. I did have to put a spacer around the top to create the 3/8 bee space.
Nice
