Totally agree the best ballad I have ever heard!! I have listen to this hundreds of times and have gotten everyone I know to listen to it and they have been totally blown away!! Let's face it Asia and BJ it's off the chain!!!
Mili was one the greatest rock voices of his time,he got into an accident I think something fell on the stage and hurt him ,he recovered but couldn’t hit the highest notes anymore ,he still sings now and has a cool RUclips channel. He loves his fans ,a good guy. I saw him at a Rock fest in Columbia MD, M3 2 day concert with a lot of hair bands, we were in the 2row, but ,there were a lot of folks in the grass, he walks off the stage and sings to those on the lawn. That was a highlight for me,he really was a class act.
1,000 lb sound stack I think 40 ft high broken facial injury ,memory loss ,nose he was pissed and started throwing anything he could pick up and walked off stage or something to that effect
A lighting fixture that was not secured very well fell on him during that concert. He sustained multiple facial injuries. But what was worse was he sustained a horrible TBI(traumatic brain injury) that almost killed his! He spent years getting back what was taken from him. And yes that night when it happened, he had NO IDEA how bad he was hurt. So he started throwing anything he could find cuz he was so pissed. He still sings. Did almost entire sound track for the movie ROCK STAR (With Mark Wahlberg). He can still hit those crazy high notes. But cannot sustain them. After all he’s been through he is still one of the best rock voices!!
Dude can sing, I think he's the best from that era and genre. A lot of rock singers from back then have totally fried their voice by now due to how they sing with their throat a lot. He doesn't do many shows now but when he does he still got it
He was definitely among the best of that era along with Rob Halford from Judas Priest and Geoff Tate from queensryche and Bruce Dickinson from Iron maiden
The word "Epic" is thrown around all too often, but as a musician of 40 years, I tell people if you want to actually hear "Epic" listen to this song. It's more than a power ballad, it's like an entire movie in 4 minutes. And is truly, Epic. In the literal sense of the word.
You guys really should hear him do a live version of this with just a piano, it's even better. His high notes actually are head voice, it was not falsetto actually.
This rock group blew my hair back....what little there is...lol.....hahaha....and are going to put Rock n' Roll back in the center of music again.....I love his voice "Millie" and all the members of the band....we are on a verge of Rock Revival y'all!!!!! Love this song!!!! Excellent!!!! Excellent!!! This group reminds me of The legendary group "Boston." The drums and the guitar is so vintage of Boston......and the lead singer's vocal range just like the lead singer in Boston!!!! Love it!!! Love it!!!! Love it!!!! On a verge of a Rock n' Roll revolution!!!
Check out the movie Rockstar with Mark Wahlberg and Jennifer Aniston...he was the singer behind Wahlbergs singing performances Side note...that movie also has singer Myles Kennedy from Alterbridge/Slash and the Conspirators along with Michael Starr from Steel Panther
I remember the first time I heard Steelheart in the radio (yes, I am from that era lol) and thought “Whoa. Who tf is this?!” His vocals are unmatched. Unmatched.
Not sure how they rank but I think they were a little late to the party. When Nirvana and the grunge music seen exploded the glam and heavy metal acts got pushed aside. So bands like Steel Heart, Fire House, Trixter, Heaven's Edge, Beau Nasty who had some great first albums didn't get the air time with their follow up albums.
Keep doing what you're doing .. I'm a a veteran of 17 yrs, and I look u r videos as a sense to ground and calm my ptsd. Do more heavy metal ballad songs
👆☝️👏 That live acoustic set in Japan that appears to only have a few songs but they are a showcase that proves his talent outside of the controlled environment of a studio and out from underneath any suspicions of bolstering by recording audio engineers 👍
Great video ..I love this genre of music.. steelheart should have been much bigger than they were . Mili has made a few solo albums and it looks like the band is touring once again.. You should check out Mili s version of Hallejuah .. absolutely amazung although he doesnt hit those high notes as much , his voice is still amazing as ever I also recommend my love is gone . Keep up the good work and God Bless .
Have interviewed him and talked to him and he is one heck of a cool amd humble guy. Told me how he recovered from tje accident which took his voice away. Was so inspiring. What a singer !
Few other ballads to check "Standing Alone" -Tyketto "Day I Met You" - Lillian Axe "Honestly" - Harem Scarem "End of the Line" - TNT "Forever Yours" - Michael Sweet ( singer for Stryper) "Don't Turn Around" - Eyes ( Jeff Scott Soto ) "We Got the Right" - Helloween "Another Day" - Dream Theater
He does it all live too, mans got pipes. Even after the accident that ended Steelheart and broke Miljenko's face and jaw and shit, he recovered and keeps hitting them notes!
Thank you so much for not stopping the video every 20 seconds to make comments! It was great to see you actually listen to almost the whole song before making comments. :)
You need to listen to their song "can't stop loving you" but with the OFFICIAL video!!!!!! Milli's voice is amazing. P.S. the official video for this song...the lyrics are different. Watch the video.
This is indeed peak power ballad. However, it was released at the very end of the hair metal era when grunge was getting popular, so it didn't get the chance to get much radio play in the following years. Also, the lead singer suffered a severe head injury after their second album, so the band could not continue touring and promoting itself. However, this song is a well-known classic in eastern countries (Indonesia, Philippines), where cultural shifts did not happen so fast.
This song is pure perfection, nobody and I mean nobody will ever sing this better than Miljenko Matijevic. The first Steelheart album is fire from start to finish.
Steelheart rocked back in the day. Another great metal ballad back in the day was by the band Aidean. Check out there song Just Fell in Love Again. One of the best ballads back in the metal days.
Interesting fact , that one of the guitarists and the drummer playing this was originally from a christian metal band Rage of Angels 1988 1989 . Which really was a great band. The drummer and the whole band was a real contender with bands like Stryper and Barren Cross. Rage of Angels only released one album. And in fact broke up like two weeks to a month prior to releasing that album. Because the Guitarist and drummer left for Steelheart .
Yes you guys found Miljenko Matijavek of Steelheart..The powerhouse rock vocalist.Live version is awesome..he is chewing gum hitting those high notes. He was the vocals in Steeldragon the Mark Wahlberg movie. The best band that never was..lol
sorry U all had to go through that... late 80s.. ain't all that. please check out early to Mid 80s...Krokus..Fastway...Slade...Riot...DOKKEN...RATT .King Kobra(Ready to Strike album)...WHITESNAKE(Slide it in Album)...Quiet Riot...Night Ranger...Saxon...DIO...Y&T...many more ..
You should check out Tommy Johanssons cover of this song. It's amazing! He's the lead guitarist in Sabaton and singer/guitarist in Majestica. The he does covers on his "free" time.
You need to watch the video!!! Other songs by them you should check out are "I'll Never Let You Go, Can't Stop Me Loving You, Eileen, Gimme Gimme, Mama Don't You Cry" & if you really want to hear his vocal range, do "Sheila."
Add to that the live in Japan acoustic set that, why only seeming to have three or four songs, proves his ability outside of the control environment of a studio and out from underneath any thumbs of recording engineers
The song you really need to check out is by another band who didn't have much stamina. The group is titled Firehouse and the name of the song is Love of A Lifetime. The acoustic version is the best. There is no piano but the guitars carry it very well. Another awesome track is More Than Words by Extreme.
I was in the 9th grade at John Jay High School in San Antonio when this song was on the radio. Another good song from around the same time as this one is "Neverending Nightmare" by MSG.
This just scratches the surface of the power ballad era. Never Let You Go was much bigger by them, but most of the power ballad era had songs bigger than this one.
Still have the original CD from when it came out in 1990. As a drummer, I was also amazed at how massive the drums sounded on this album as it sounded like nothing else out there. I thought they'd been recorded in some giant airplane hangar somewhere to get that massive reverb. Nowadays, any fool can get that with a mouse click in ProTools, but not back then. They are the story of a band that should've been way bigger than they were, but fate stepped in and stopped that from happening. On a gig supporting this album, a light truss fell down onto the lead singer and he nearly died. Obviously, the band was done at that point because of it. He had to relearn how to eat, talk, walk, sing, etc all over again. Eventually he did though and they've put out a few albums over the years since then. A short clip of that accident is on RUclips. But he definitely had that vocal range - no studio trickery there. Here's an unplugged version of She's Gone with just him and a piano and it's amazing: ruclips.net/video/FATSXi6TgoI/видео.html
I'm a drummer too, one thing I remember about this cd, when I first heard it, I couldn't believe how huge the whole production of it was. Ever song was mixed so well. And the drums sounded massive lol always thought Steelheart was criminally underrated. Sadly they just entered the race, a little too late
Hello Asia and BJ . Love your intro to the channel and the music reactions you two do . Even though I missed the live stream of , Rock Power Ballads , I did watch it later on and thoroughly enjoyed it , some of the songs i now have on my Playlist. BJ , i was noticing the cap you were wearing , a once very familiar NBA team from my neck of the woods, here in Canada 🇨🇦. Keep up the good work you two , it's very entertaining to watch . Lots of love ❤️ from British Columbia, Canada 🇨🇦.
Believe it or not there's a little more emotion and range in his vocals poured out into the song "Mama Don't You Cry". That will be a nice treat for you guys to listen to
This is my favorite vocalist he's not a singer. Like Mariah Carey leann Rimes people like that aren't singers there vocalist. Wish you would do the unplugged version of this song. It's just him a piano what a amazing performance. I've seen them twice the whole band is top tier musicians
Glad they got around to some Steelheart, hope they do their rock songs as well like Can't Stop Loving You, Eileen, I'll Never Let you Go and then do some Saraya!!
Imo this is Head and shoulders above all other rock ballads. I feel the same way you do about the drums they are purposely very powerful sounding they bring a lot of Dynamics to the song and they are mixed perfectly, it sounds like a lot of gated reverb which was used a lot back in the '80s to make things sound big larger than Life. I myself am not a great singer but I wanted to point out that I don't believe that is considered a falsetto, that is when he switches from a chest voice to his head voice. By the way I love your reaction to this video so glad you did Steelheart.
The Live version is even more impressive because it proves he really can sing like this. When your lead singer can sing higher than women and he's a dude....that's amazing!
Another way to interpret this beyond a woman leaving him is that she's passed away, and he's regretting what he's done. He is wishing her back, you know the classic stages of grief.
That is not falsetto. That is head voice. Falsetto is breathy, flutey, and hollow. There is nothing Breathy Flutie or Hollow about that voice that is straight power. And it is sang with amazing passion. Miljenko Matijevic (Mili) and Geoff Tate of Queensryche are probably the two best male vocalist to walk the planet
She's Gone. This kind of pain doesn't come from a man whose lover walked out of the door but one who is in a better world. Not kidding. All of Mili's power ballads are about a woman who he loved dearly but passed away too soon. That's why he said, "Lady, won't you save me?" He meant, "When I die, will you come to find me, again?" Get it? No one asks to be saved unless they are beyond a point of no return - dead! Which is also why he said this in his newer song 'My Love Is Gone': I know you will come to *save* me, From this lonely road, my pain will turn to dust... When the *angels come* to find me, I'll be free again, I'll be with you again...
If you wanna a real treat … check out the SONG Steelheart, it showcases all of vocals and/or the live version of Shes gone,I’ll never late you go or any of their live songs.. he is just as awesome live as in the studio.. and guess what? No auto tune! Skid Row had an awesome vocalist also Named Sebastian Bach… although he is a flat out idiot.. his vocals are often matched to Millie’s .. check out wasted time, in a darkened room, I remember you, or quicksand Jesus ..
He is a FANTASTIC vocalist. I was fortunate enough to see him live a couple of times, and he delivered all the notes perfectly.
Steelheart so underrated they have so many great songs I miss the real singers of that time In music !!
They have like 3 albums
Yes, Steelheart !! My favourite Album in 1990. American Glam Metal Band with an incredible Croatian Lead Singer.
One of the most beautiful power ballads ever. Steelheart an amazing band.
Totally agree the best ballad I have ever heard!! I have listen to this hundreds of times and have gotten everyone I know to listen to it and they have been totally blown away!! Let's face it Asia and BJ it's off the chain!!!

"When The Children Cry" by white Lion beautiful power ballad!
The most powerful vocals in power balads ever!!

One of the top voices ever! I'm sweating over his voice,, those jeans, THAT HAIR, and his whole body movements. Sweating in here!! ❤️
He was fine
For real@@traceystanley3554
I agree 👍 the most powerful ballad has to come from Steelheart..big voice
You guys really should hear him do a live version of this with just a piano, it's even better. His high notes actually are head voice, it was not falsetto actually.
I second that the live version is incredible
Agreed!!

He's as good live and can hit those notes on command. Shame his career was cut short at the height of their fame. He's singing again now.
