They should make the old Top Gear track a unesco heritage site or something so that all petrolheads can make the pilgrimage to visit it at least once in their life
On top gear the V6 Brera did a 1:36.9, also at the hands of Ben. Alex’s car is clearly shagged but the winter tyres are going to be making a big difference. Would be interesting to see how much faster the blue car would be with the V6.
Actually the car on Top Gear back in the day was the standard 2.2 JTS 4-cyl petrol, which was actually a Fiat engine, unlike the V6 which was made by GM
The natural aspirated petrols all have GM blocks / engines, namely the 1.9, 2.2 and 3.2 JTS - that's also why they're all chain driven. However they have revised heads from FIAT-Alfa (with VVT, DI, higher compression and so on). The only "all Italian" petrol on the 939 series cars is the late 1750TBi (1.8 Turbo). @jackgrafik
Ok so as a big fan of the platform(I own 159 SW) I can say that those cars aren't quick. The platform itself is just heavy and no matter the engine - the speed is just not there. Also almost all of them are FWD(AWD was offered with 3.2 V6 in both Brera & 159 and with 2.4 R5 in 159s) which isn't helping with steering. Alfa did what they could with suspension setting etc etc and they do drive quite pleasant. But again - just not that quick... All that said you really don't buy those for speed. You buy those for looks and they do look stunning.
The fact that Taylor's Alfa even made it to the track let alone survived the day is a miracle. To then come out and actually win two challenges is astonishing. They spent like nothing on that car, from an original purchase price to maintenance. It was already shocking it made it to Scotland for the previous challenge they bought it for.
Any idea how much more work it is to swap a petrol in a diesel insted of swapping petrol for petrol, and if i would swap i would choose alfas 2.0 v6 turbo
