Oh god finally someone who did a test with Classical guitar.. I searched the whole RUclips and couldn’t find tests like these, I appreciate this so much! Do you by any chance have a Warm Audio WA 47 or WA 67? I’m looking to buy in of those and couldn’t find any decent video on Classical guitar. Cheers!
Hi Luciano, thank you for your kind words, I am glad that you found the video helpful, but unfortunately I do not have any Nuemann clones like those. May I suggest using a TLM 103 instead of going with a u87 clone, as I found it to actually be a U87 clone itself? ruclips.net/video/pN1Uryd4PLk/видео.html Let me know what you think, chat soon.
@@TieDyeKitty Thank you for your advice, I saw your other video talking about the TLM 103 and found it very interesting. Thanks for sharing those videos!
HEy thank you for the comment Angelvox, I love my TLM 103 and am happy that you also have one!!!! lol Don't forget to sign up with the Creative Passport please, chat soon.
what I'm hearing is more low mids in the U87, it is warmer and smoother sounding, apart from that I think they are similar, I have the tlm103 and I didn't think it'd be so close to the 87.
Hey Ben, I knew they were close, but I did not think they were this close myself also. With a good external preamp/channel strip you could do wonders with a TLM. Thanks for your input on this topic!
Thanks for watching! and making an interesting point that I certainly did not think of, more detail would mean more to work with therefore less noise if eq moves are needed!
Yeah they really sound that close, thats one of the reasons I did the comparison, so broke musicians wont have to sell a kidney to buy the U87 thinking that the "Fairy Dust" will work its magic for them. lol
@@TieDyeKitty Thank you for taking the time to help others with the comparison! I actually bought a TLM103 recently and your videos were one factor that helped me decide. It sounds amazing; I love it.
I would tend to always like mics that will give me more bottom end in order for me to pinpoint what low end frequency I would choose to keep to make that instrument sound better... U87 for me
Thanks for your comment Sir Dave! YEs the more I play with this U87 the more I like it to be honest, I now look at a TLM 103 as a Shure SM 58, and the U87 as an all round SM 57, because I know I can use a U87 in more applications in a recording session.
Can't call a winner or loser here..just preference at this point. higher end in the 103 gave a little more detail with the strings..but the presence of the 87 almost seems as though the volume was little higher...nevertheless it seemed neutral and little mid forward...

@@LucianoGhosn Oh wow, thank you again Luciano, you play super well, its an honor to meet you!
@@TieDyeKitty Likewise, thank you!
Wow. I thought TLM 103 sounded better. I own one. U87 sounded perhaps sounded better on the harmonics. Well done.

@@TieDyeKitty yes I like my 103 with an RND511 preamp.
@@tyremanguitars there you go my friend, silky smooth perfection.
U87ai for me: clearly more mid detail (thus it would also take EQ much better). PS: Thanks for the nice and valuable comparison!

Both sounds great, more warmth on the U87
Agreed, the 103 is a touch brighter that means the U87 would feel warmer!
Thanks for your input.
I preferred A before the reveal by a small margin.

There seems to be a little more bottom end with the U87 but it is loose, so the 103 would seem tighter was my observation.
I think I will take 103 for my flamenco recording(cuz it’s much cheaper😂) thanks for the testing, god bless!!!
Good choice! happy recording!
