  • Adam is pleased to welcome Donnie Osmond to the podcast for a one-on-one conversation in Part 2 of today’s show. It begins with talk about Donny’s very unconventional childhood, as well as the importance of spending your career reinventing yourself. Adam also asks Donny about ‘disappearing’ during the 80s, how dating worked for him, and more reflections on the past. They also chat about run-ins with music legends like Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson, and avoiding the trappings of fame. Later, Donny talks about his beliefs in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the dangers of surrounding yourself with yes-men, and Donny’s first car. In the last part of the show, Donny talks about his love of singing.

The fact that someone could go through that experience (being a teen idol) and come out normal on the other side, says _a lot_ about his character and about the way he was raised.

The vocals & choreography were off the charts. They would stomp all over any of the main stream phonies & hacks in pop music today!

I got Donny's autograph when I was about 11 or 12 years old. I just loved Donny and Marie and the whole family. I wish I still had it, I'm so sad I can't find it. This was 35 years ago, but if you can believe it, my dad said to me" that's Donny Osmond, go get is autograph". I didn't believe it. I knocked on his car window. We were at Taco bell in Provo Utah at the time. He rolled down his window and I got his autograph. He was so kind and it was amazing that he even did that for me. What a wonderful man. What a wonderful family the Osmonds are. Thank you Donny and family.❤️

Donny.....when you talk about "Puppy Love", I have to say I am SO grateful you now embrace the song. I just returned from Vegas, and the way you present "Puppy Love" in your new show at Harrah's is perfect!! I never liked it when you'd make fun of the song, because, for us "girls". . . that song was a huge part of our past of YOU, and it takes us back to such a magical time (well, at least for me). THANK YOU for saying this and admitting it. I have found you have become much more humble in the past 10 years, and I appreciate that in YOU!!! I have always adored you and your talents. I will never stop following you!!! But, I do miss Marie! ;-) I'll see you again in Vegas!!! Your show is worth seeing over and over!! Oh, and BTW, Debbie is a saint!!! :-)

He was really down to working on his career comeback in a very involved way, midi keyboard gear in his house, writing, showcases at a Country venue in Orange County. I was rooting for him even though he's not in my wheelhouse.

Adam is really good at one on one interviews. It’s really impressive, and quite an art. He is a pretty unique person. I think he is very fair when he discusses his parents as well. In my opinion, they failed miserably. Just the actual behavior he describes, very objectively, is really reprehensible. He seems like a person who succeeded on spite of who raised him, or in response to it, but this kind of parental neglect should never be credited as the “obstacle” that provided the fuel for his or any success, because who knows how much more he or anyone could have accomplished, without it? Adam’s own resilience is responsible for his success, and his willingness to grow, to be better, without needing or expecting perfection. He is a realist.

Great interview, but so many things i wish the interview would have narrowed in on… The fact that the Haunted Mansion was his temp schoolhouse while filming that show for Disneyland. In fact, id love an interview focusing on just that one show.. I accident;y discovered that show playing on DirecTV on some channel back in like 2001. I kept it .. Still have it.. Fortunately was able to save it off on to my commuter where i rewatch it from time to time. The boys sing song like “Down on the Corner” which was really great and at the end where they sing Aquarius and Let the Sunshine In.. Its really fun to watch, not to mention, nostalgic. Id love a deep dive interview to that show.

I know he doesn’t like to talk about it but Donny’s parents were largely responsible for the mismanagement of his money. They were very liberal with his money and had overly indulged on it during his early career. I know of a story where someone talked them into purchasing an airplane to make touring easier and more cost effective. A business associate told them about an airline that was going bankrupt and could probably get a great deal on an airplane. Instead of just purchasing an airplane they bought the whole airline and tried to revive it, it didn’t go so well.

Nothing but love, respect and admiration for Donny. He is not only talented as can be but so honest and I love his humor and laugh.
