Well he didn't buy the house, he bought the land the house was on. Property value in a small forest would be pretty cheap just because there's literally no use for it.

I had an interesting experience. A few years back, a friend of mine bought a nice piece of land that had a large, modern home on it, and in back it had an asphalt road that went to the far end of the property. He never bothered going down that road, as he was just interested in his house on the front of the property. One day he called me and he was shocked after he had a meeting with some county folks and found that his actual property went further "back" then he was lead to believe---by another 1/3 of the area. (My friend is not very good at sizing up property that he actually bought, he and his wife just liked the house. So I suggest to him that we go down the road that he never explored and see where it dead ends. We take his Polaris out and down the road we go. Now this is a narrow little road on his property, but surprisingly flat and in good shape. The property is covered with rather lovely short wild grass and some trees, but not forest-y at all. Some gentle rolling little hills and very pleasant and quiet. In California we worry about snakes, but for some reason this area doesn't seem to have many. Well we go down the road and come up against this little hillside and right there built partially into this little hill was a concrete brick walled, small house! We were stunned. No one told him it was there. It is a small but complete house. We go and open the door, which was unlocked but had a surprisingly good seal on it. You walk in, and it is like a big, divided room. To your immediate left is a raised wood platform, where you can put bedding and sleep. You could put a mattress there if you wanted. The place has a gas furnace, electricity, and the utilities are hooked up. There is hot and cold running water. Sewage is out to its own septic tank. To your right is a table and chairs, a small kitchen, and ahead of you a bath with shower and tub. Then, there is a narrow flight of stairs that goes to a den above, with a small outside deck, perfect for astronomy. It was like a getaway house! What was even more shocking is that it was clean, bright, there was no smell of mildew or anything. It was spotless. Above all else, there was nothing creepy or strange about it. It was nothing but cool! All that had to be done was to turn the gas on and light the furnace. It was like a deluxe mancave the likes of which we had never seen. So a few months later they had the whole inside of their regular house painted, and it was going to take a while. They didn't want to stay there so his wife went to visit her mom for a few days, and my friend decided to "live" in the "bunker" as he called it for a few days. He invited me over. I brought an inflatable mattress and a sleeping bag. We had dinner, and then went upstairs on the deck with his telescope and looked up Saturn. Sleeping there was quiet and comfortable. He tells me it is still like a dream. He can't find any information on the house, the neighbors never knew, no one knows who built it and why. We estimate it to be about 15 years old. I have never heard of this happening to anyone else!!!!

a friend of mine here in Australia recently bought something like 2000 acres of land for 200k i forget the area but its large enough that it is listed as its own suburb any way its in dense lush rain forest because it used to be for timber the other week we were hiking around it just seeing all it had and we found small abandoned town in the middle of heavy rain forest.. we called the real estate agent and he got back to us and said it was probably made in the 30s and that we had to wait for some one to evaluate if its heritage or not which in this country means you would no longer own it and if you did you weren't allowed tear it down only restore it any way when my friend saw it his reaction was priceless he just took one look and said "what the fuck have i just bought Jurassic park"

MrGoatflakes This was taken in Virginia in the wintertime. All but the evergreen trees will lose their leaves until spring. A friend from Puerto Rico went to Germany with the Army and thought there was a forest fire because the trees were all bare.
+WelderRDT that would be my guess as to the real value i wouldnt put much stock into the house... no window or doors sitting at least 30 years untouched and most likely a well or ram pile from a stream and just open ground for sewage...and its so small ...about rhe size of a double car garage i just dont think there is much value to the house ...i know classic cars... the most expensive cars are the free cars but looking at the amount of timber and the size of it.... thats your hidden gold mine being that its land locked... id make a deal with one of the land owners next to you... even at a couple grand thats a great return on 300 dollars

a friend of mine here in Australia recently bought something like 2000 acres of land for 200k i forget the area but its large enough that it is listed as its own suburb any way its in dense lush rain forest because it used to be for timber
the other week we were hiking around it just seeing all it had and we found small abandoned town in the middle of heavy rain forest.. we called the real estate agent and he got back to us and said it was probably made in the 30s and that we had to wait for some one to evaluate if its heritage or not which in this country means you would no longer own it and if you did you weren't allowed tear it down only restore it
any way when my friend saw it his reaction was priceless he just took one look and said "what the fuck have i just bought Jurassic park"

MrGoatflakes This was taken in Virginia in the wintertime. All but the evergreen trees will lose their leaves until spring. A friend from Puerto Rico went to Germany with the Army and thought there was a forest fire because the trees were all bare.

i wouldnt put much stock into the house... no window or doors sitting at least 30 years untouched and most likely a well or ram pile from a stream and just open ground for sewage...and its so small ...about rhe size of a double car garage

but looking at the amount of timber and the size of it.... thats your hidden gold mine
being that its land locked... id make a deal with one of the land owners next to you... even at a couple grand thats a great return on 300 dollars
