I liked Moblit for a good few reasons he kept Hanji safe,he was comedy relief,He protects Hanji,He helps Hanji with stuff,he’s just a awesome side character that wasn’t murdered in the first few episodes of season 1 like poor Petra. Need I say more?

I honestly hate how some of these people dismiss Erwin's importance and accomplishments so easily.
Yeah they piss me off too... They forget so easly how Erwin was important...
It's simple. We get to see Armin's character development from the start, which makes us care for him, especially for his personality. Meanwhile, we see Erwin estoic and almost detached from the beginning. Anyways, I still prefer Erwin. His achievements are far superior, and he's the more logical choice for the serum...Oh, and I love his character and his motivations.

Maybe it's because he started growing on me as the story progressed that I get annoyed seeing readers/watchers brush him off. And yes, the serumbowl was simply ridiculous. I actually stopped reading the manga after that.

i don't think people were necessarily dismissing Erwin's importance- it's just that in that moment, they were asked to choose between two indispensable characters, and while it's obvious to anyone with eyes that Erwin would normally be the first choice, with his leadership and experience, as readers, we were more sympathetic to armin because we saw more of his development, and because he's always been a character that's been underrated and overlooked despite having contributed so much. in the end, the reaction of the viewers probably boiled more down to who had more to live for, and would actually care about the lives of the people rather than who was more important logistically to destroying the titans. while i do admit that it felt empty after erwin's death because he was such a significant symbol of leadership (and also because i just liked his character in general), it was armin that ultimately saw that there were no more wasteful deaths, and armin that embodied what it was to be human
8:58 is one of the best moments in anime. This is the point of realisation of how both great and terrifying AOT is. Firstly, you’re anxious and don’t know what to expect. When Levi hands over the syringe, it feels like eternity. Just as you see Erwin’s body on the soldier, you *realise*. OMFG. The choice has to be made. And it tears you apart because both Armin and Erwin are indeed indispensable characters. And all of those feelings rush through you in a couple of seconds. Truly great piece of art.

i was team erwin too. but that’s easy to say from a third-person perspective. no matter what anyone says, it was a personal matter to levi. if erwin finds out the truth in the basement, it’s unsure whether or not he will still have a drive to be the commander. just like kenny said, everyone’s a slave to something, it’s what keeps them going. if erwin stops being a slave to his fulfilled dream, what else will push him to become the commander? in the end, he will just be forced to become the devil again, but this time around, he’s not doing for anything anymore. what kind of commander would he be under those circumstances?

Everyone’s saying they’re glad Bert died because of what he did, but once season 4 comes around his death will be seen as tragic.
I never read the manga, but I feel like Bertholdt didn't really like what he was doing. Like he was just forcing himself to do something horrible. I don't know why but everytime Reiner talking about their plan and he was like there quietly thinking if he's going to do it or not. I feel sorry for him.

I read the manga years before watching this episode. However, I cried like a fucking baby for both versions.
When I first read it, I was the cadets' ages and I wanted them to save Armin because he was one of my favorite characters, but watching the anime as an adult, I really liked Erwin and wanted them to save him because he's got the experience, the willingness to sacrifice, and the leadership skills. I still see Armin's dreams as a good reason, but that argument is just a little bit weaker for me.
I think the only reason I'm okay with the decision is because my boy Erwin needed a break from the bullshit. Time for my baby to rest. RIP Commander. I'll see you in Hell.

That's my biggest gripe with AoT: They had all the options not to fall back into that "plot armor main characters" stereotype and yet, they did.^^

I don't like how people think that Erwin "rejected" the serum - it was not it, he just had a vision about his childhood when he was asking his father about titans in class. Levi let him rest so Erwin will finally be at peace, not living in this hell with them. And Erwin thanking him knew if he will be dying, Levi would let him rest. Their relationship is so strong, it was very hard for Levi for sure but he did it for Erwin, for his good.

Rewatching this for 50th times and the emotions are still raw af. People who think AoT is an one dimensional story should get the full story. This episode literally proved how AoT can be an epic masterpiece without even it’s banger osts and top notch animation. Not many battle shounen can do this .

i remember when i first watched this episode with my brother... we were listing all the cons and pros of reviving erwin or armin in the end we couldn’t come up with an answer of who should live i was crying and torn and i’m sure my brother felt the same after levi revived armin we were like damn we didn’t exactly celebrate but we weren’t sad or mad about it either we did talk about the good things about reviving armin but we also thought about how much every body else would feel like the whole scout regiment and how erwin was the commander of the scouts like come on people were going to hate armin and the rest of them probably in the end we made peace with it though armin has potential and has proved that he could be very important to the scouts later on we’ll find out soon enough in a few months anyways

Honestly the reason the choice worked out so so well was the fact that their objective after that was no longer killing titans, or straightforward battles, meaning they didnt really need erwins experience anymore

海外の方々の反応は「エルヴィンを救ったのではなく、アルミンを救ったことに驚いた感じ(あるいはやっぱアルミンでしょ！みたいな感じ)」だと思います。
あと、いくら敵とは言え、「助けて―！」と叫ぶベルトルトが生々しく食われるシーンは、ショック受けると思いますよ。だから自然な反応かと…(笑)

the whole episode was so painful for me. armin was my favorite character since episode one, and i grew to love bertholdt so much, even after the colossal and armored reveal. no matter what, one of my favorites was going to die. i had to pause the episode and bawl my eyes out for ten minutes
I can only imagine when levi was going to make a choice, he took too long and they both died lol.
