This was a great video! Scratchbuilds are really cool. Not least because when people are "wowed" by its flight characteristics, you can say "I built it". That instantly makes it more cool than some of the best RTF scale planes.

Hello Nate! Wow, lots of major excitement on your channel this week! One thing that really struck me when you flew the twin otter, You fly all of your planes in a similar way and in a familiar location. Kind of like all of the car reviewers who put the cars through their paces over the same stretch of track. This gives you a much better point of comparison between all of the different airplanes. So it really had an impact on me to see your reactions to flying the flight test twin otter. I am a recent adopter of flight test models and practices + to hear someone with your experience level and skill, I just find it very encouraging all the way around. It was also heartwarming to see how much the flight test guys were impressed by your flying skills. Keep up the great work. And congratulations On the fruit of your labors and the blessings that it brings to all of us.

Really COOL plane...the squareness of it reminds me of Legos built!! Not a criticism!! Nate, I don't know how you make the plane do crazy stunts!! lol, no lifetime warranty on the rubber bands, but they are pretty high quality and seem to bounce right back when not in use!! Pretty bad joke, I know… 😅💯⚓️
It was designed after the Flex Innovations owner-designer and World Freestyle F3A Champion Quique Somenzini's Twin Otter. It is not surprising that it flies so well. I have the Flexjet Pro 90mm EDF with a thrust vectoring Nozzle Hacker Streamjet 90m EDF fan that flies like a trainer but can also do crazy 3D or 150mph passes. Hopefully, Flite Test will do a FlexJet 90mm next. Would be cool to see more people able to afford bigger EDF jets at a fraction of the cost. It would be a great stepping stone for those afraid to jump the gun. BTW, Nate, your flying is getting really impressive. Time for you to get a nice Flex Innovations plan to flex your skills more. Flex Innovations planes make me feel like Jase the Ace Dussia. lol
A very nice plane, very good air gymnastics. This one needs a good vibrant spray painting 🎨. A video first, Nate gets goosed, 🪿🪿😆😂😆😉😉. This plane is big enough it could be called the Foam Goose 🪿 😉. Nice droning Abby. Another fine flying day. ⚓️⚓️👍💛🧡💚👍🎨🪿😂😆😉👍⚓️⚓️.

Would be cool to see an in depth build video with your take on it of a flight test plane I love building them from printed off free plans but if you wanted to do a kit to save time it's totally worth it they do great things over there just as you do great things on your channel big fan of both

I built their cargo twin about 5 years ago and it was a great learning experience. One thing to note, the foam board is easy to work with during construction, however, it has a 2 to 3 year max lifespan before it starts to absorb moisture and just falls apart. So if you build it, just fly the heck out of it the first couple years.
Good to know! Was yours with the older, brown foam board or this newer white stuff that actually handles moisture well? Keeping in mind that I flew mine today after DUNKING it in their pond earlier on their channel 😂😂😅😁⚓️

That B2 fell apart in flight and had a ton of issues, bit crap for 4000 dollarydoos. Wouldn't want anyone to buy that.

When is Abby's turn on the sticks? 🙂 I have seen all the FT videos on the Twin Otter and saw it flown in knife edge. Nate, would you be able to do a knife edge loop with the Twin Otter? FT has shown how it handles on floats with the differential thrust. Bet it would also handle snow during the winter months.
Oh I’d love to fly this off of snow, and yes I’d say it can do a life edge loop! It’s powerful enough 💯 The kids are about to drive each other crazy, BRB!!!….

13:35. I buy the kits then buy more foam board. Use the kit to trace out on the new foam board. Never have to buy a new kit. This now is your new kit for $10 or less. Time consuming yes but save even more money. I do this with my flite test kits.
That’s honestly not a bad idea at all! Sounds like what I used to do as a kid with some of my paper airplane books. I hated cutting out the two I had, so would trace them to make more! @@TheRcSaylorsI prefer vinyl rapping FT planes because the foam has a special coating that makes it water resistant; So, in order to paint a FT plane, you have to sand it first so that the paint does not flake off. I have found that it is more work and does not look as good. Either way, great flying!

Yes 🙂 We absolutely have to listen to air traffic while present, even though it gets very minimal traffic, even just flying over.

A nice verison of the de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter. VIking Air out of British Columbia owns the Type Certificate for the DHC-6, so I guess FliteTest people licensed the design from them. The FT people do great stuff, and I am a fan of their channel! The Royal Canadian Air Force uses the Twin Otter in a number of roles, including Search and Rescue (SAR). Here is a video I shot of Gatineau-Ottawa International Air Show in 2022 of a Twin Otter in RCAF SAR livery using their variable pitch props to back into their parking space at the show. I’ll find out for sure and follow up. If I lose your comment (likely) I’ll mention it in a video. I read a comment from one guy that said he buys one laser cut out, then uses those as templates to trace for more planes, if that makes sense. Not a bad idea! At least he’s supporting them once for their hard work 👍💯⚓️

You can get free plans of Flitetest older models but not the latest
@@Gavin-qh7li I was able to do a little more research. The FTCA has a free membership and a $25 yearly membership. There are a few for free, but otherwise about $6 each. They don't quite have all of the latest ones on there yet, I think they need Sponz to make the plans, which takes time.
