Good roundup. I like that you spelled out your personal preferences and needs in your evaluations.
Personally, even when I used versions of Excel with the ribbon UI, I tended to prefer a custom toolbar and keyboard shortcuts for quick access to the commands I most commonly use, so the single toolbar UI option for LibreOffice Calc really suits me. I think the ease of customization of Calc is a real strength.
BTW, the Android version of Softmaker PlanMaker is pretty decent, albeit with a few quirks; I've been able to sync spreadsheets from PC to Android and back with no loss of function or formatting.

I'm like that in most programs... I like the UI getting out of the way unless I need it. I've gotten a little better with Calc over time, as I learn their icons. But I still think they have too many visual cues missing and their color schemes aren't great in dark mode. Too many items just don't have icons. It's usable though.

The old StarOffice was phantastic. When it became OpenOffice, the first thing they did was to make it similar to Microsoft Office. Totally terrible move. Office UI is just garbage.
