This is considered one of her best deep cuts. She actually performed it at the VH1 Fashion Awards in 1998, which was a huge deal because it wasn't a single and it's actually a really disturbing song. The performance, as a result, is iconic.

Easily one of her most iconic live tv performances.

Her masterpiece IMHO. Very deep. Very spiritual. This song deals with abuse and finally being fed up and standing up for yourself.

Janet kills this song in her live performance.
Here is Janet's official video performance of this song from her Velvet Rope Tour ruclips.net/video/QlB4M4to4vU/видео.html

Describing her abusive marriage at the time. This was heavy! Lol. I don't think anybody was prepared for that transition that just slaps you in the face when you first hear it. 😂🔥

This also influenced TLCs song "good at being bad" in regards to the contrast.

This song was in fact a song talk about toxic relationhip and domestic violence. This song talk about her first mariage when she 17 years old. She deal with domestic another time with her third hunsband later and she crying when she performed this song at the ''State of the world Tour''

So, they were on a romantic stroll along a beach one night and he proposed. Then, she THOUGHT about all of the bad things he had done to her.
Then, she paused, took a deep sigh, and didn't respond to his proposal. Confused, he said, "I KNOW I didn't say something wrong. . ." and then, again she THOUGHT about all of the bad things he had done to her.
Then, she told herself that she needed to stop letting fear control her and she looked him in the eyes and SAID all of what she had been holding in.
What about the times you lied to me?
What about the times you said no one would want me?
What about all the shyt you've done to me?
What about that? What about that?
What about the times you yelled at me?
What about the times I cried; you wouldn't even hold me?
    What about those things?
What about the times you hit my face?
What about the times you kept on when I said 'No more, please!
    What about those things?
What about the times you shamed me?
What about the times you said you didn't eff her, she only gave you head?
The live performance is absolutely breathtaking.

Kind of ironic...when the tone of the song changed, you said "wow...I didn't expect that". What's interesting is that she (the narrator) didn't expect that either.

I've always thought of this song as being part two to the song empty and how she connects the interlude by saying "how empty of me to be so full of you". The song empty in all it's splendor actually ends with what about. Again this is all in my head. But I find it logical.

Ask yourself, if any other artist had done this song would you have even thought of Michael Jackson? Janet and her contributions to music should stop be diminished by constantly being compared to get brother.
