  • Bungie, we need to talk... signed, your favorite space wizard...
I wanted to compile my recent thoughts and criticisms regarding the last two to three years of "bad updates" geared towards Warlocks and to offer my thoughts especially given the poor presentation we recently saw in the TWaB regarding our new aspect on where I think things need to go in the future to bring our favorite space wizard class back into the game.

I blame Titans and Hunters needing to have access to them for Bungo's lazy and bad choice.
Same with the nerf to Ionic Traces and Benevolent Dawn.
I wouldn't mind the other two classes having access to them if it weren't for the fact it nerfs the Warlock's kit.
The existence of Healing Grenades are fine letting Hunters and Titans have a choice of survivability or offense but Warlock's should have kept access to be able to have both available at the same time.
Also they deleted part of the Warlock "IdEnTiTy" by not letting us convert our Grenade into something else like every other sub-class. Handheld Supernova, Bleakwatchers, Arksouls (via Getaway Artists which should've just been built in to Arclock), and Threadlings. Solar now being the ONLY sub-class without that identity.

      No, I am correct.
Heat Rises isn't converting our Grenade into something else, it just allows for Solar Warlock to floof about a bit longer.
It doesn't do what the other sub-classes do which makes the Grenade something disconnected from the Warlock itself.
It's not an amp'd Grenade like Handheld Supernova with Void. From a magnetic sticky Grenade into a short range blastwave.
It's not an Arc Soul like with Getaway Artists with Arc. That should've just been baked into the kit but that's just my opinion. Still it turn the Grenade from a chuckable Grenade to a shoulder Turret.
It's not a room lock down turret, the Bleakwatcher like with Stasis. Turning a chuckable Grenade from their normal function into a Turret.
And it's not a homing creature, the Threadling when the Grenade is charged like with Strand. Turning a Grenade that drops up to 3 Threadlings whilst airborne into a Brood nestled on the Warlock's shoulder.
You know what WAS similar to all the aforementioned Grenades from the other sub-classes? Divine Protection.
That's the part of the "ClAsS iDeNtItY" that was taken out.

Don't mean to sound like a broken record, but imo this all started with the introduction of well of radiance since Before that it was pretty clear that warlocks were space wizards and after that the role got more focused on being support. As a warlock since D1 I think this is the moment it all started going down hill since after that all major dps abilities got either nerfed or simply outpaced as the game moved forward with little to no buffs since the mentality of "You're gonna be on well anyway" became so prevalent in the community. Also 100% agree with your 3.0 reworks point. I think it needed to happen, but I expected for warlocks to get something in return, like idk but "whatever you can do the other now do as well but you don't get to do what they do doesn't feel fair. while I do enjoy the elemental companions I think they were poorly implemented for the most part, bleak watcher was like the beta and it works well and CHOG was good on void release, however it went down hill from there solar didn’t even get one and arc soul was so ass it had to be buffed TWICE to be the equivalent of a second primary weapon. Strand was marketed as the summoner class is the only one of the subclasses that made the summon universal and I think that’s what is holding back threadlings since if they made then useful to the extent of CHOG or bleak watcher the other 2 loose identity.

    • @chrisjackson7669
      @chrisjackson7669 Год назад +6

This is the big one for me, I don't doubt that Starfire was super strong before the nerf, but after seeing Aztecross' Super DPS testing before and after the buffs it became even more obvious why it was used so much, before the buff Titans had 2 supers that could output almost around 900k-1M damage and in the case of stasis it could effectively do that damage to everything on a room while freezing them constantly by spamming heavy attack, then there was a fairly big drop off drop off with 3rd best doing less than 700k which was still also titan Hunters could doo just over 600K which is a good 30% decrease from best Titan, Warlocks? not even 500k literally half the damage of Titans, post buff, Titans now go over 1M, hunters between 800-900K Warlocks 700-750k at best, which is an improvement in getting them a bit more in line with each other, but then you actually look at what those supers are, again Titan huge AoE, Hunter smaller, but still AoE, Warlock best are Meme beam at around 750k which is single target and Dawnblade at 700k which is a bit of a weird one as it tracks meaning you don't have 100% control over what you hitting, if there are ads near or between you and the boss, there's a good change half your projectiles will hit the ads instead massively lowering that damage, so its like yeah, Starfire is strong but that's accentuated by the fact that everything else was, and kinda still is, trash in comparison to the other two classes, on top of this to actually get that super high damage on Starfire build required a specific exotic, a demo rocket and witherhoard, so that's Super, Power Ammo, Special Ammo, Specific Exo Armor, Specific Exo weapon and fairly specific Power weapon, there wasn't much room for adjustment without losing a lot of damage orrrr... you could just be a hunter in lucky pants with Malfeseance and do over 1M in 1 phase against templar... so that's Exo Primary weapon and Exo armor, no super, no special or heavy ammo, no setup outside of readying the weapon.
On a slightly different note, the changes to the armor giving some built in 4x surge also feels rough on warlock, Bakris gives it for dodging non hunter, which is like a 10s cooldown, so basically always up and makes invisible and invulnerable during the dodge, It requires stasis subclass but buffs both stasis and Arc, so potentially 100% uptime on all weapons having 25% damage boost for almost no cost and a lot of safety, Titans, eternal warrior build the surge up by chaining Arc kills (so again basically free as you'll be killing stuff anyway and is very easy for Titans to do on Arc) and gives max stacks coming out of super, Path of burning steps is basically the same but for solar, Warlocks have Mantle of battle harmony which requires you to NOT use your super and get a kill to get the damage buff for 10s, now I can see there's an argument to be made that mantle gets you your super quicker to begin with but is it worth using for a 25% damage buff and holding your super while also needing a kill to proc for 10s, when you could stick with 3 surge mods for 22% damage basically all the time assuming use of time dilation etc and that doesn't require weapon to match subclass, or an exotic at all, I do use mantle a fair amount, but that's for one of two reasons, A build up super quick then hot swap ( so not even using the damage buff) or for an ager's Scepter build primarily to extend the duration of Alt. fire in which case I'm going to run surges anyway because yanno, it drains the super so again no damage buff, the only time it does get the buff is when i dont need the bigger damage Alt mode and at that point its just upping me from 22% from mods to 25% from exotic, yes it doesn't require armor change etc. but charge isnt difficult to get, a teammates pops a super and you've probably got plenty of orbs , mantle has you to stop shooting the boss and kill an Add with subclass matching weapon every now assuming everyone else hasnt just melted all the adds with there supers because they're allowed to use them without hurting there damage, so to boost damage vs boss you need to stop shooting the boss? I feel like the kill to proc requirement is a little much, is 25% damage boost strong? yes, is the cost of effectively not having a super a fair trade off, possible in some cases given half our supers are trash damage anyway, but making it require a kill every 10s during DPS reduces the the amount of cases where it could be useful again, again, compare this to hunter, who just has to dodge and get invis and invulnable on top and potentially reloading there weapons with gamblers dodge or which ever dodge it is, so easy to use with or without ads, no killing requires, the Titan one generally requires chaining kills so not great for busses, unless its eternal in which case pop super, get max stacks on super end, then shoots the boss until dead, warlocks is get a kill, shoot the boss until lowish then try and guess when to pop super for the kill, with is similar but if you pop early the boss doesn't die and you've got no damage buff, pop too late and half your super is basically wasted as the boss is already dead which yeah there dead for final stands and stuff that could really F you over when you're edgeing the super pop only to realise shit I waited too long we now wipe or shit a went early, we not wipe, basically requires popping at the perfect time to make the damage worth it, especially and Mantle does literally nothing else, no quick thaw like burning path, no invis + invul like Bakris, just more super energy in order to get a slightly higher damage buff for 10s +4s for each kill afterwards build up a over what you can get for picking up 1 OoP with normal surge mods which last longer even without time dilation IIRC which don't restrict the use of your super or subclass and lasts 10s per orb minimum and potentially 18s per orb with time dilation meaning pick up 3 orb, you now have 2 mins of surge on whatever weapon type you want plus potential stat buffs from armor charge aswell, to get that with mantle youd need to kill, what? 30ish enemies in fairly quick succession and I don't even know if the buff can stack up to 2 min so might require you to top it up constantly.
The weird part is from what I've heard Warlock is the most popular class amongst the Devs, which makes me wonder if its actually the opposite of class favouritism and theys made the other classes particularly so players dont just say" oh bungie devs all play x that's why its the strongest" but have gone a little too far and made warlock feel a little lackuster and have kinda lost there identity a lot of the time minus a few specific cases like starfire and sunbracers, well, i guess now its only the latter.

One of the things that I hate about how Bungie is handling warlocks, especially as a warlock main, is that we are treated as a support class and have not gotten even half decent offensive abilities. Shadebinder Super is really meant for crowd control, Storm caller super is steal relatively weak as crowd control, both version of Nova Bombs still falls short even after they received, Broodweiver is just a worse Nova that solely relies on threadlings damage, and well is a shell of its former self and is almost a requirement for endgame content because everything else is dog water poopoo. Additionally I am so tired of receiving exotics Armor that only enforces you play a supportive role instead of offensive. A great example is the new Season of the Deep exotic helmet that is meant for trace rifles, and I don’t have an issue….. at least for the trace rifle portion. Where I start to have an issue is that when you mark a priority target and YOUR ALLIES get the final blow on bosses or champions, THEY GET HEAVY AMMO…….. BUT THE USER DOESNT. LIKE REALLY??!!!!!!!!!! If that is not supportive I don’t know what is. It’s time for some more offensive exotics and aspects THAT ARENT BLAND AND LACKLUSTER IN UTILITY.

Void, "interdimensional warp": using your class ability warps you out of reality and reenter for a brief moment (like a dodge). Leaving the warp leaves behind a void breach for you and your fireteam to pick up
Solar, Radiant seekers: replaces your rift with a burst of noble seekers that hunt for fireteam members and yourself. They give the players 2 seconds of restoration and cure
Arc, amplification: replaces your rift with a temporary arc wave. Entering the wave grants damage reduction and amplification
Stasis, shatter fall: your rift is replaced with a animation. Your warlock waves the staff and slams it to the ground creating a pulse. The pulse gives you and allys a stasis overshield. The pulse also shatters any frozen enemies within range
Strand, The Swarm: based off the number of kills you summon the brood to fight for you. Your warlock does a animation and various waves of threadlings burst outward to fight for you.

I think some of this was harsh. Electrostatic mind is a very strong ability which gives us the easiest consistent access to ionic traces which provide quite a bit ability regen. When you combine that aspect with fragments to generate ionic traces, it is possible to get multiple ionic traces from a single enemy. Fallen sunstar bumps ion traces to a whopping 25% grenade and melee PER trace (so if you are combining this with spark of ions, you literally get half of your grenade back for killing a jolted target) in addition to giving nearby allies energy equivalent to a normal ionic trace. I agree with most of this tho. Solar 3.0 in particular was very cringey. 2 of the aspects being aerial felt like they only cared about top tree and pvp balance. Meanwhile they tried to cram both the healer fantasy AND pyromancer fantasy into touch of flame. the rapid response to shadebinder melee while shatterdive and cryoclasm got left as is for most of the year kinda alerted me that something was off in Bungie's evaluation of Warlocks, but the release of solar 3.0 was just like a slap in the face to me as someone who actually liked running well of radiance before then. The removal of being able to convert charged grenades into healing grenades really hurt the whole support role of that subclass branch IMO, not to mention moving the melees that give what we would now call radiance to a fragment that all classes can get and the other two can chain much more effectively due to refundable melees (picking up the hammer or just straight up having the knives get refunded on a kill while radiant) just really felt like something was left missing from the whole subclass. I honestly expected the entire year from that point on that there was going to be another update to light 3.0 in season 19 to give all 9 subclasses 1 more aspect each just because i was so convinced that they wouldn't leave Dawnblade in the state it was in with only 2 decent builds.
The point you make about usage rates is so good imo. Like the whole justification Bungie gave for why they had to nerf Starfire as hard as they did was that its usage rates were too high, and yet Warlocks have consistently been the least played class in all aspects of the game. It just doesn't make sense to me. I've always liked the appeal of playing as a support character and when I started playing I thought that's what warlock was, but at some point it seems like any unique support identity warlocks might've once had just got washed away and spread out into the other classes. Can't wait to never play solar again until Bungie nerfs every good part of the other 4 subclasses and i'm just a permanent lunafactions bot.

First vid of yours I’ve watched, a Titan main (for transparency’s sake I guess?) I think it’s really easy for people to look at the uses of something like “top tree dawn” and say it’s broken because the 1% that play warlock and want to beat other classes on warlock HAVE to use it’s kit. Same thing for lightning surge cheese, etc. if you want to play warlock well you kinda only have 1 maybe 2 choices. You have a lot of good points and I hope people are able to look past the “warlock complain because they not titan/hunter” bullshit that most people pull.

Dunno how familiar you are with PvP, but the high end movement skill cap for all Classes is Warlock -> Hunter -> Titan and speed going Warlock -> Stompee Hunter -> Titan -> Hunter.
I played a lot of comp and scrimmed until Lightfall, and lemme tell you: Titans are broken in PvP, Stompees can give Hunters an edge to catch up with the Movement of Titans and Warlocks.
Also I play all classes equally if that helps to remove bias (maybe leaning towards Titan and Warlock I guess)

May be a bitter warlock main but Arc was my favorite class, the add clear that arc web put out was great. When titan got jolt and a grenade focused aspect (in wish warlocks have always gotten them before) that was better at ad clear then arc web and all warlocks really gained was a new melee that wasn't viable in pve. Couple points:
Movement: warlocks movement is generally speaking the fastest, that’s why they’re used in speedrunning. Harder to pick up, higher skill cieling tho. Lots of advanced tech with well skating and snap skating and what not, just need to take the time to learn it. Titan and hunter are miles better in pvp sure, but like in general warlock movement is fine and is easy to chain momentum
One shots: straight up shouldn’t exist in general, so this isn’t a pain of the warlock kit, but a problem that needs to be addressed on other classes
Rift: rift has a long cooldown and placement time because it healing on demand like you said. It can borderline win you fights in pvp alone with the constant stream of health. Until they get you out of the rift you are constantly healing, that’s why the classy restoration meta was so broken. Not to mention btw, you can slide mid cast with your rift, so yes you can move. It’s a trade off, it heals and overshields you, of course you shouldn’t be able to just insta pop it, or pop it in the open. Empowering may need a touch up, but in no way should it be combined, you’re literally giving every subclass a mini well. You would quite literally kill the pvp meta. Elemental rift is neat. Cooldown is also fine though, barricade just needs to be increased. Buffing things continuously rather than nerfing only leads to power creep. Dodge doesn’t provide enough of a benefit to nerf, it is a movement tool and for its timer it’s very justified.
Well of radiance: well is broken, flat and simple. Completely dumbs down the pve and pvp meta landscape, with the lowest timer and a scaling damage resistance to resilience with constant healing. Borderline mandatory in pve and hardcore content. Bubble at the very least requires you to leave the bubble and possibly die in the process. Well was genuinely the worst thing to ever be added in the game
Dawnblade: pvp it’s fine, just up the damage for pve, that’s fair. Definitely need a new aspect tho seriously, bring back blessing of the sky in some way
Exotics: Rain of fire is able to output the most dps with the proper swap setups, you just gotta learn it. There are other great warlock exotics, you just gotta take time to build around them
Arc warlock: it just genuinely needs a complete overhaul. It’s bad. I won’t even try to defend it, it’s bad
I genuinely do believe you need to look at this from the lense of objectivity and not class love. I play all 3 equally, so I mean it when I say it that it is not as bad as you’re saying it is. And like warlock, titan and hunter have many classes that are lagging behind in multiple areas (hunter arc is genuinely buns in pve, the worst I’ve seen. Titan stasis and Solar are very weak and do not have much build crafting wise to attempt at enhancing them. Titan stasis is especially dead, pvp it’s atrocious and pve it just isn’t as potent as shadebinder and revenant. Only good thing on the titan tree is sunspots, and even then it just doesn’t matter.) I’ve yet to play hunter or titan strand, but for the most part am hearing general discontentment. Warlocks consumable nade in general for infinite suspension is very very strong in general, the summoning vibe of this kit can be touched but I genuinely don’t believe that the class itself is Weak. Best dps super in the game anyhow.
Every class has its problems with both overpowered and underpowered aspects. The goal should be to bring balance, not just get better stuff. There are strong setups on warlock, they’re just not as obvious, or may take some more player skill to pull off. Regardless, really, 30 minute video is a bit dramatic for the most used class in endgame pve. Try the other classes out, try and remove yourself from the class elitist mindset. You’ll see things in a much better light 🙏

So for those 2 I have no opinions. Also for those other 3 classes, arc hunter and solar/stasis titan, they require such specific setup for such niche use cases that I didn’t really consider. Overall as a class they are weak imo, that’s why their usage is so low. One particular build does not define the potency and health of a subclass. These points can be argued sure, that’s what debates are all about. I still stand behind the rest of what I’ve said tho, and this too

I do wholeheartedly agree on Stasis points
Imo the harvest cooldown isnt necessary anymore and on that note - stasis abilities having longer base cooldowns than other abilities - that is something that should also be gone for good for every class, not just warlocks.
The game has powecrept way past the point where that was needed. Strand is a great example here, it has smaller cooldowns, an entire fragment that literally gives grenades for free and Strand in general is essentially doing the thing that stasis was supposed to be good at but better. Unlimited crowd control for virtually no cost or effort

Thank you Phantom, for your time and dedication to start this conversation. Also thank you to everyone taking part in it.
I see myself as Solar/Stasis-Warlock Main.
While agreeing to almost everything you said, I felt myself being superior to the other classes before S21 Starfire nerf hit.
In my opinion, giving up your super for damage in supporting the fire-team was perfectly compensated by grenade spam via starfire protocol. In combination with witherhoard and a demo rocket I've been able to keep up with top DPS guys in my fireteam.
Nerfing ashes to assets was ok, because it hit every class but made well spamming kinda impossible.
Pulling off the DPS method, needed some skill as well and for the neutral game, being stationary in a rift that did not heal you was a fair adjustment.
    Why did I fell superior?
I was able to save teammates by consuming my (heat rises) grenade near them for sure 1000 times. Using an eager edge sword to close the gap and charge the grenade inflight felt always like a very potent ability, which was very hard to master.
The well skate is imo the best movement tool in the game.
Restoration x2 is only available on warlock (as far as i know)
To take it one step further, before the introduction of strand, the Stasis warlock was king of crowd control. Having those bleak watchers up freezing everything, numbing the battlefield was amazing.
    End of superiority...
Not only was the CC-crown taken from the warlocks, it was split and given to titans and hunters in the form of infinite suspensions. The strand warlock does not have such a thing. Weavers trance is a joke, ether everything is dead already(normal content) or you need to shot a red bar enemy with for five your osteo minutes resulting in yourself being dead(Master/GM) or I'm just stupid.
As you guys mentioned before: devour on all the classes, healing on all classes, crowd control on all classes, arc-web on all classes is stripping away the class diversity/identity, which sure will be only determined by the jump abilities.
    Sorry for the long comment!
    TL:DR: I agree

When casting a rift when devour is active should add 5 seconds and refresh health, etc. For several months I justices it as it activated devour and it is in the text. Recently I finally added the fragment to my kit and to my surprise this refreshes devour when picking up a new orb or breach. If a simple fragment can the exotic should too.

I thought it was apparent after bungie made the first 3.0 release, but I think we've generally reached a point at which hunter = gunplay or warlock = ability play, isn't or rather can't be the only defining factor for any of the classes anymore.
Sure hunter often has more gunplay focused benefits baked into their subclasses but at this point they're more of a nimble assassin type of class, just like titan isn't just me go punch and punch stronk, but has become a much more sustain/tank focused class with either more destructive or controlling abilities and finally warlocks are still very much ability focused but also gained some neutral game or gunplay capabilities while maintaining their incredible endgame(high level viability)strength

  • @scottylikeamelody

I am a warlock main. I strongly disagree that warlocks are weak in pve. I cannot talk about pvp because I do not personally enjoy it (it is really easy), but warlocks are by far the most dominant class in pve. The only aspect of warlock in pve that is bad is arc warlock. For damage, warlocks have been the most dominant for a long while and still continue to be. Obviously there was starfire, which was way too strong, but there is now the strand cycle. This works on every class, but it is especially good on warlock with the super. Warlocks are mandatory pretty much any raid or dungeon with well of radiance. Warlocks have the best survivability and ad clear in the game through sunbracers (insane ad clear and infinite restoration 2 I used it to 2 man root), and in nightfall activites verity's brow is very busted. Strand warlock is extremely good offering the best damage in the game (look up warlock strand cycle it is almost as good as starfire) along with extremely good ad clear. There is also just infinite suspend for nightfalls. Void is just good overall. Nova is quite weak, but it is good ad clear and survivability with a variety of builds. Stasis is good overall, but it has been powercrept by strand. Stasis turrets are very good, but I think strand suspend is better than freeze. Warlocks do have infinite suspend easily. Arc is ok. Easily the worst subclass and it needs some help. However, it still has some upsides. Arc souls give the team a lot of extra help in damage and ad clear along with chaos now being pretty good for damage. Solar warlock is just what makes the class. Well is the best super in destiny and it is not close. With the strongest damage cycle, best super, excellent support, and the best ad clear, can you deny the strength of warlocks?
Titans are just kind of useless. Cuirass (no idea of spelling) of the falling star is good but is outclassed because it puts you out of position and doesn't do enough to warrant that. For reference, a warlock needle storm does a similar amount of damage to a Cuirass thunder crash with no season artifacts. Bubble is useless. Any melee super is just for ad clear. In very few spots will you use a melee super for damage in high level content because things do too much damage. By high level I mean like master- grand master activites not like duality. Strand titan is very good but that is it. Solar is good on survivability.
Hunters can be argued better because they have star eater scales. I would not care if you said hunters are best, but I wouldn't. Again nothing on hunter is mandatory besides tether maybe (not really) The damage is good and it has very good builds, but warlocks are simply better because of well, ad clear and survivability (sunbraces be busted), and a multitude of things I mentioned before.
Overall, I think warlocks are an extremely dominant class, and titan is the worst class in pve by far. I think they are the best class in pve.
Again, this is just pve. In pvp I think they are the worst, but idk.

Well is only mandatory, because they design the raids with wells in mind. All arc and void supers suck, and you are basically throwing if you use either one of these in real endgame.
Although I do agree with titans being weak. Totally undeserved HOIL and synthos nerfs. Bubble used to give you better damage buff than the well and they gutted that for some reason, and ALL their roaming supers suck in pve. Well has finally been nerfed after being the best super for a while (this is a good thing, but warlocks are not seeing enough compensation)
Prismatic Warlock is very clearly to me, the weakest of the three classes.
The two new exotic armor pieces arent too interesting.
And the worst part is? Class favouritism is getting mad, especially with Titan. Banner of war had shipped, and Synthoceps did not receive any nerds for the longest time. Now, say this is nerfed with banner, at the exact same time as the release another pair of arms that is better for BoW than Synthos is.
Every time a new subclass or whatnot releases for Warlock, I am always disapointed in what it grants me that is unique to the new classes. Am I being selfish for seeking something that the others dont get? Am I ungrateful because my class isnt "better"? I just want, ONE good content drop for my class, that really shakes up the class.

  • @AWP.
    @AWP. Год назад +3

I’m not going to lie, I disagree a lot with the stuff you say here. Not going to touch too much on power fantasy because that’s kind of in the eyes of each individual player, but claiming that solar warlock was bad last year and that build creativity didn’t exist just isn’t true in my eyes. Warlock also has the best manoeuvrability in the game by FAR with heat rises and Icarus dash. You’re not incorrect with the fact that titans have movement on all subclasses, but shoulder charge doesn’t come close to the potency of what heat rises and Icarus dash can achieve. Warlocks have been the best class in the game since season 19, having probably the strongest strand subclass out of the 3 (though I do agree the 3rd aspect is lazy and boring), along with solar being without question the best subclass in the game. Void warlock also remains a top tier pick in a lot of content due to its ability to trigger player buffs very easily. Your statements on rift are also confusing, because healing rift is pretty clearly the best class ability for general gameplay now due to how ad dense encounters have become. Yes restoration can be produced on any class but having that ability on any subclass is super strong. Emp rift is also imo a little better than you make it out to be. Having an on demand damage bonus at any time without the need to interact (kill/damage) enemies to trigger is extremely strong. Your comments on exotics were also hit or miss for me. You mentioned Rain of fire was bad but I believe it to be an excellent exotic for damage phases due to the ability to reload and it works on solar which is your best subclass. I would agree with your statements that warlocks aren’t as potent in PvP as other classes, that is something we will have to wait and see how bungie decides to move forward with. You also make comments around the lack of build creativity with solar warlock on launch. 2 points to make here: firstly, these 2 builds were (and one still is!) the best in the game. Arc Titan in season 18 probably overtook it, but by season 19 it was normalised. Also, other classes did not have fantastic build variety either. Solar Titan had 1 build that was so much more potent than anything else, there was no reason not to use it, along with the build being probably the most mundane build in the game currently (syntho mini hammer Titan). No point in making this a battle of the classes but it’s not exactly like other classes got much else either. I think warlocks (after whatever the hotfix was) won the most from solar 3.0 by a rather significant margin. Your notes on well being on the cusp of being nerfed is also false, as bungie has stated that they have no intentions of touching well (I believe they said this mid season 20). I agree with you on the starfire nerf being too strong, but it was extremely overpowered, making titans and hunters feel obsolete in raids due to the insanely increased damage potential.
Feel free to disagree, thought I’d give my 2 cents

  • @leebeastkiller
    @leebeastkiller Год назад +8

i always thought that they shoud have created the classes based on a triangle with the 3 aspects covering that triangle on each corner, those being ability - defense - speed.
in the ability corner with medium speed and defense is the warlock great with abilities with fast cool downs and with medium agility and medium defense and a health pool somewhere in between titan and hunter (acting as support and all around class).
in the defense corner with low ability and low agility you have the titan but has more health and stronger shields (acting as a tank class able to take more damage and do extreme damage at very slow ability cool downs).
then in the agility corner for the hunter focusing more on ambush based skills and ranged attacks and is able to quickly get around but takes more damage due to having lower defense and a lower health pool and has medium ability cool downs.
the way that bungie looks at it is thast they want all classes to be exactly balanced which isn't possible (Warlock classes aparently getting screwed over at every turn) and then focusing on gunplay with time to kill in PvP lowering and ability usage almost worthless in PvP thats basicly warlocks out the window in PvP (they were originally ment to be a PvE support and ability usage focused class and that has been slowly tacken from them).

Instead of spawning 3 threadlings the rift should spawn either DIFFERENT/BIGGER threadlings OR maybe make it look like a portal into the ground where they spawn. Good for pve and not pvp which is what they want.
Also since swarmers are useless because the melee ability does the same thing they should give us a better melee.
Arc if they wanna make it movement based im fine with it..... Give us movement abilities.
A tp version of icarus dash would be cool. Maybe make it so when were amplified you take less damage.
Hell, a icarus dash for ALL the subclasses would be good so we actually get movement.

Yet almost all of the armor mods revolve around orb generation and the playstyle itself revolves around threadlings perching, which wipes the ability to generate orbs with that threadling.

After being a warlock main now since dark below… I have seen a lot of rises and falls with the class. Dawnblade was in a decent spot, but still a bit under appreciated up until Solar 3.0 mainly due to dawn chorus giving bottom tree dawnblade some more viability in end game/raids. I remember all the nerfs we had to our abilities, and all my friends wonder why I’m mad at how warlocks are in the game now. They are maining Titan and Hunter, but the one guy they have always on warlock (me) is mad that I only have one clear choice to run in any activity being Well. I wish I could run other supers, but they aren’t in a spot to be used over well. As was stated, all of the exotics lately have been niche exotics. Match your subclass with this to get increased damage, or use your air dodge to reload weapons… where Hunters get Star Eater’s that is a huge super buff, and titans get Falling Star for their best super for burst damage. We have been shafted repeatedly, yet the other classes don’t seem to understand how much we have been over the years. Removing our identity and trying to force us to be more gun focused like hunters, and they wonder why more warlocks are moving to Hunter. We don’t have an identity, we don’t have any variety in our gear. Especially now with the new helmet being for trace rifles. Bungie is pretty much saying “You’re the one using div and well, deal with it.” It isn’t fair to us warlocks to have to sit back while titans can grenade spam better than us, and hunters can have obscene damage numbers. But our best super without any artifact mods is still bottom of the board in general. Bungie needs to reassess what it is to be a warlock. We were not the gun fighters, or the close quarter shooters. We were the ability users that could heal our allies with a grenade, the ones that could always have uptime on our devour melee, the ones that could set the world on fire… now we have none of that as a class. Titans and Hunters do it better after all.

As a Rain of Fire user, the exotic is quite potent with Mythoclast. It's one of the easiest ways to gain Radiant, which in turn leaves room for you to spec into Restoration and Benevolence to buff others and feed into ability regen.
With how often the Osteo + Necro Grips gets thrown around for being meta, Necro Grips itself isn't that big of a boost over plain Osteo. Osteo + Grips is really only strong for trash clear, while the RoF + Mythoclast unlocks a very tanky, versatile (and supportive, even) ability generation kit that's not normally attributed to the Solar subclass.

Regardless, it's currently sitting at a .77 TTK, which is right about average. In regular lobbies, it's perfectly fine. It gets even better with Radiant so long as you're using it at the appropriate ranges.

What i would have liked to see is destroying a tangle via throwing/shooting gives warlock a stack of weave. Upon reaching x stacks, the next tangle destroyed becomes a moderately sized wandering threadling that splits into lesser threadlings each tick its alive. Also a shorter cooldown for tangle generation.

I agree with pretty much everything said in the video, but tbh, Fallen Sunstar is one of the best overall exotics for warlock, and when you say warlock should be ability focused, Fallen Sunstar makes it that way. I am able to throw pulse grenades so quickly, the previous one doesn't run out before I throw another one. As for rifts, I am able to stack them consistently. And having constant access to amplified and speed boost really does help on the movement side of things.

You can do that in normal difficulty content sure, but nobody cares about normal content because everything falls over from just looking at it. Bring that into a GM without this season's artifact mods and see what happens.

I am so glad someone is finally talking about this, I've been thinking about this stuff for a long time and felt like no one was talking about it.
The warlocks identity still exists, it just also exists on every other class, and they often do it better, so uhh... I don't think thats much of an identity. Putting devour on every class is baffling enough and hurts warlocks uniqueness immensely, but putting it on a fragment for every class when warlock has to spend 50% of their aspects on getting devour without it being improved in any way blows my mind. And that's just one example, ionic traces, chain void and solar explosions, chain lightning grenades, healing nades, the list goes on and on.

I consider warlock my main but play all 3 classes and it's hard to not notice how any content with a power cap is suddenly considerably more difficult whenever I get on the lock.
With how much time that's been wasted on gathering stat gear and ornaments for the warlock I'd honestly rather just quit than swap mains.

@@Runelor indeed, just the other week, on my titan wearing loreley, I noticed that I could survive standing afk in the first duality encounter while 5 scions were pelting me with bullets as loreley was passively looping barricades and sunwells.
Even though the power delta is topped out, providing that extra bit of damage reduction, that's still in a dungeon mind you.

I was a Titan main in Destiny 1. Play more hunter and some warlock during those days. Warlocks were PvP feared. Just for their supers. Back when supers were strong like they should be. Now you get hit with a melee and die. Which is another topic entirely. Destiny 2 I continued with Titan main. I was already seeing nerfs happening to the Warlock class, but I didn’t realize just how bad until I switch to a Warlock main with Witch Queen. Like I’ve stated I’ve played all three classes since Destiny 1, but when you main a class you hone in on its weaknesses and strengths. Warlocks are supposed to be like Mages and Wizards. Casting spells and summoning stuff. Warlocks are definitely more about abilities. When you limit that with the art of gunplay you take away its identity. One such example is Rifts. Rifts are a joke among Warlocks. You have a better chance if you run than put down a Rift. This is PvP and PvE. You can regain health just as fast outside of it as in it. Animation is so long in this faster pace Destiny you will die before you put it down and it does no benefit right away so you’ll die anyways even if you survive putting it down. Nerfing things like this that take away from the identity of the class. It’s like taking away Hunter’s dodge or Titan’s barricade. Starfire Protocol’s TYPE of nerf was uncalled for! It’s utterly useless against a boss now. Not only is the regeneration rate completely drove in ground, but the verbiage of the exotic changed from “damage” to “kills”. Warlocks already have an exotic for that attached to Well. It’s Phoenix Protocol! I used that build before Starfire Protocol. Starfire became a viable option because Solar 3.0 and fusion grenade dp output. This is what a Warlock is suppose to do! That’s why you want a warlock to come along. For that maximum survivability and dps. One change I would wish to come true a Rift and/or Well that moves with your character. More so the Rift. Increase the survivability with Rift as well. Now we’re talking.
