I had the pleasure of listening Mr. Petrov quite a few times live. His playing was, is absolutely astonishing, as we can see in this marvelous recording, together with another giant, the conductor Evgeny Svetlanov. Long life to Russia and its marvelous music! Thank you for posting!
Is it just me or is it the recording? Petrov's singing tone is so marvelously captured in this recording that it's as if I hear this concerto with very fresh ears. I've never heard it played like this before, it's so brilliant and yet so warm and so human, it doesn't sound like a machine void of feelings is playing it. I am really truly amazed and so glad I came across this video. Thank you for uploading it. My only regret is that it's missing the first few bars, the intro in the first movement. But thank you just the same.
Они оба мне очень дороги. Такая родственная духовная связь. И я в восхищении от исполненного ими концерта. И оркестру тоже моё Браво! И Светлая Память Им Навсегда! 20.04.2021.
The conducting of Evgeny Svetlanov is pure magic, the opening of the second part is really a revelation!!!! For Petrov I cannot add anythning to the comments that are already written by other listeners, submile!
One of the few recordings of the Rachmaninov 3rd where the piano is more than just a blob of sound lost in the muddle of orchestration. This is one of the best interpretations of the 3rd I have heard. Petrov's piano sings the melodies and cries out the agonies trapped inside the composer. He plays those 4 and 5 note chords as part of the concerto, not as a beating and pounding on a musical instrument.
Every single note he plays is phrased with clarity, even when he plays those stuffed chords it doesn't sound "muffled" compared to other recordings. What I really like from his performance is this part (29:13) because for a brief moment, Rachmaninoff added a layer of hidden singing melodies at the top of those cascading notes. This performance, Van Cliburn's and Horowitz's are amazing takes of the Concerto No. 3
He’s that typical Russian male pianist with a giant physique and an elephantine tone to knock the socks off your feet at any given moment in this concerto for all time!!!
I like the tempo here... Another my favourite is Bronfman and Gergiev in Japan, but gosh, they are so in hurry there like being late and the train is coming...
10:25 A nuke is beung armed, it may not look like it, nobody can tell that it's been armed... no external signs at all of the immense internal intensity of what's about to go off. One of the greatest masters of prodigious pianism. 2 Other masters of this Concerto: Ashkenazy, and surely Rudenko (?).
Indeed, I have heard of John Odgon. If you'd like to find his recordings, I would recommend searching the following: RUclips, Itunes, Spotify, Pandora, Google, and if those don't work, then search through what the kids are calling "The Internet." Good luck!
John Ogdon was huge as a pianist in the 70's with a large repertoire concertizing all over the world. A giant that will be missed. He also played 2 piano concerts with his wife, a fine pianist in her own right.

Great performance, both for the soloist and for the orchestra and the conductor.
Total respect to the conductor, the pianist and the orchestra. I could see in this concerto performance that Music was above personal prominence.
Они оба мне очень дороги.

Eccellente la cadenza. Le mani, pesanti come pietre.
All the flowers...haha
Has anybody here heard of the pianist Mr. John Ogden? Any recordings of his around?
John Ogdon. I've uploaded recordings by Ogdon and he's all over YT. He was a great pianist.
Indeed, I have heard of John Odgon. If you'd like to find his recordings, I would recommend searching the following: RUclips, Itunes, Spotify, Pandora, Google, and if those don't work, then search through what the kids are calling "The Internet." Good luck!

Солист великолепен, но с оркестром расходились!
Да, Вы правы, было кое-где
Слава Богу, вы спустились с небес и нам это объявили. Искусство в долгу перед вами.
