  • Tropical storm Debby ruined my initial riding plans for the weekend so I looked up a spot on the map that wasn't affected by the storm and hit the road. Ended up in Franklin North Carolina at Rose Creek Campground and Cabins. After the 5 hour drive I unloaded the DRZ and took a ride through the Nantahala National Forest connecting parts of the Smokey Mountains 1000 and Smokey Mountains 500 routes. Enjoyed some great roads and scenery and headed back to camp for some drinks and food.

The rack you use to carry your motorcycle on your truck, did you make it or what brand is it and how well is it holding up.

It’s the trackside motorcycle carrier from Cycle Gear. There’s a couple other brands out there as well. I love it, I’ve had it for years with no issues. I like this one because I can use the ramp on either side so I don’t have to back it off. The only thing I bought was the ramp part, the one it came with wasn’t great.

What kind of fuel range do you need on Smokey mountain 500?

I was only on a small part of it. Haven’t had a chance to do the whole thing yet. Seems to be gas stations everywhere though. Don’t think you need a big range.
