      @patrickhayesTN 2 месяца назад +11

      Actually in many cases the reason Walmart says no at those locations is because the particular municipality has an ordinance against the overnight parking. So in those cases, yes it is actually "LAW".

    • @jeffnorbert1871
      @jeffnorbert1871 2 месяца назад +4

      Absolutely correct in many cases. Local "ordinance". Actually constitutionally unlawful to create these "rules" but they are "legal". Ordinances like that have occasionally been overturned in courts but it's hardly worth the trouble and those municipalities typically just rewrite the ordinance and go back to conducting "business". Stealing vehicles and collecting money through fines.@@Thecampingloop

      A lot of the city ordinances on where you can park overnight are passed because of lobbyists from local RV parks. They hate people not paying to stay overnight.

    We leave our fridge on 12 volt. We have 400 watts of solar panels on the roof and a battery charge controller for the two 100 amp/hour LiFePO4 batteries onboard. We also carry a Jackery 1500 W. solar generator with its own 200 watt solar panel so we never run out of power. Leave the propane for cooking and heating.

    After calling all over, looking for an rv spot, during a crowded season...........we pulled into Walmart in Destin, FL. Place was loaded with signs saying "NO OVERNIGHT PARKING", by order of some city ordinance (obviously due to pressure from rv parks).
    Got hold of Walmart security and asked.........WTF ?
    They said "ignore the nazis.........ITS OUR PARKING LOT...........OUR RULES.
    Then he handed me an overnight parking permit.

      Lmao, those sign are due to zoning ordinances. Walmart security are private security companies, not employees of Walmart. If the Police show up you will suffer the consequences. You will get the ticket and/or the Notice To Vacate. Walmart will not go to court with you or pay your fine. The security company has no power to invalidate a law.

    I was a little bit frustrated with the last bit while I had it was only 110 or gas. And I don’t like to travel with gas on before I even knew this so I always shut it off. Which means if you have a long distance to go, your fridge might be a little bit hot but time you get to where you’re going, especially where I live in Arizona. So that was one of the reasons that I always left really early and I was always going. It was about three hours from where I live approximately. Driving with propane on and I don’t know why they would put an RV refrigerator where it 110 or gas used to have three-way where you could use your battery. Don’t forget to change it when you get to where you’re going or sit too long in a restaurant or you’re gonna have a dead battery. But if you have the right stuff on your Truck your battery in your pulling vehicle.

Now I haven’t been on the east coast or through any significant tunnels in my RV (5th Wheel) as I am in CA and have only taken my RV to Oregon and Arizona and my grandparents took their EV to a few other western states.

    As to the propane question. If you are in an accident and your propane is off, and if the accident is pretty bad, it makes no difference; on or off a bad thing could happen. When filling up with fuel it might be wise to make sure a pilot light is out. My frig in my old rig ran on propane but I turned the pilot off when I fueled up but I didn't turn off the tanks. I have a 12 volt frig in my new trailer. I try and turn off the tanks when I am on the road when I remember it. But I have never been cautioned about having my tank valves open. I have driven through the Eisenhour Tunnel many times with tanks on and I don't remember seeing any warning signs. I have also driven through New York and Conanicut and don't remember seeing any warning signs about this subject. I will need to have someone research this in detail.

  • @youngwolf20

    You should cross your chains, however it is not to make a cradle for the trailer lol. The fact is that they will hardly ever catch the trailer and keep it off the ground.
    Crossing the chains does help with turning tightly. You can confirm this by using a tape measure and see how much more it gives you without binding up. Of course as with all things, that only works with property mounted chains.
    The ones that are connected to the trailer at a single point is one not property mounted and two will not hold as much weight in thr event the trailer does come disconnected going down the road.

    most new trailers have a single anchor point for safety chains now. Crossing them is pointless. They should have stuck with the 2 anchor points.
    I agree propane needs shut off, if you get in an accident, propane lines, hard or rubber can and will break/puncture and you have a deadly propane leak. Nothing to stop it from just emptying the tank on you. Which is why vehicles have fuel cutoffs so they don't "generally" keep pumping fuel out after taking a hit.

    • @stephenjones219

      When it's 90+ outside, and you are driving 8 to 11 hours, it stays on. Many people now are having to drive with their generators on the whole driving trip. Those twin door residential destination refrigerators require gasoline to keep them staying cool during long travel days and nights. The RV dealerships don't even know the KW per hour those destination refrigerators need.
      A couple of panels and batteries doesn't cut it in the real world. Either is spending a few grand to add solar/batteries, which can add tremendous weight, and take away from your cargo capacity.

    Due to the hitch design on the truck and the tongue on the trailers, all it would do is allow the tongue to fall to the pavement pinning the chains between the tongue and the trailer. Then all that would happen is a chains would grind away until they are cut completely through detatching the trailer from the chains.

    The CHP is almost non-existent in CA any more (long story). Just don’t stand out.
    I’m currently in Michigan on the UP. Northern California and some Central California have many beautiful destinations.

    Just don’t draw attention to yourself’s and you will be fine.

    It is illegal to transport any of those one time use, refilled by you, propane tanks. So, no refilling and taking on your trip. This is what it might say on the canister.
    viii) With one of the following statements:
    (A) For cylinders manufactured prior to October 1, 1996: “Federal law forbids transportation if refilled-penalty up to $25,000 fine and 5 years imprisonment (49 U.S.C. 1809)” or “Federal law forbids transportation if refilled-penalty up to $500,000 fine and 5 years imprisonment (49 U.S.C. 5124).”
    (B) For cylinders manufactured on or after October 1, 1996: “Federal law forbids transportation if refilled-penalty up to $500,000 fine and 5 years imprisonment (49 U.S.C. 5124).
    Update to that law is, If someone dies from a refilled being transported cylinder, the jail time is 10 years.
    Please note that law says “up to” on the fines and not on jail times. Those are mandatory.

Well if the truck has its bed on it, then it’s a truck, but if it’s not on, then it becomes a tractor, and can legally carry much more weight. I realize people can add freight to the bed, but does taking the bed off really change how much weight it can handle drastically? I say no
