“Where does he get those wonderful toys?”

  • @oepolish

I was born in 81, so in 89 when this was released, I was just about to turn 8 and we went to go see it. I was so excited, it was on a Sunday and I had school the next day. So being out late on Sunday was something that never happened. I was still playing with the Kenner super powers toys. So untill I got the updated figures I played out the movie with my blue and grey batman, my joker and my blue batmobile. Then a couple of months later I got some of the toybiz figures for my birthday. On Halloween I went as Batman in my very awesome homemade costume. Then come that Christmas I got some ninja turtle stuff, the batmobile and the batwing. And lastly in the stocking was the Batman VHS! I bet I watched that movie 5 times that day.
Thank you for sharing your story and sparking my memory.

Same here! July of 81 so for my 8th bday I saw Batman with my dad who was a pastor. I remember him telling me not to say that when joker called him a gruesome son of a bitch. 🤣

We're almost the same age and for me was the same, my parents weren't rich and I never had all the Masters, Ghostbusters, Ninja Turtles or complete collections and I always had to choose one or two 😅 When I had to choose a Batman toy from the 1989 movie toys I chose Bruce Wayne that can turn into Batman! That was cool! Never had the Batmobile but in return my parents bought me an Ecto 1!✌🏻

Batman 1989 is the greatest film ever made; I love every second of this movie. I've been obsessed with it since 1990. I love everything and Michael Keaton became a god to me, just like Robert Englund when he portrayed Freddy Krueger

This was great! I was a young mom at that time and hunted down those action figures with equal tenacity. You just brought back all these fun “I was a mom in the late ‘80s and ‘90s” memories, so thanks!!!! I honestly think I had just as much fun raising kids in the ‘90s as my kids had being raised in the ‘90s!

I was 8 or 9 when this came out and let me tell you, the marketing for this movie was next level. I had a significant amount of the trading cards, making-of magazines, Batdance was on the radio in constant rotation, the NES game was blowing up. I never saw any of the toys but fuck me I was hyped for the movie, I already knew almost everything about It. We only had a dilapidated old drive in theatre, and it re-opened and closed again within the perfect window to show Batman at its release (the last movie it showed was Return of the Jedi, for which the poster was up on the ‘Now Showing’ board for most of my childhood). My mum sent me with one of her younger co-workers (who also introduced me to Bill & Ted), we watched it on a massive screen with the sound coming through the car’s FM radio. What an experience.

I’m dumbfounded by the people who thumbed this down 😆 this is incredible! I was just 4 years old when Batman came out, but I remember the pandemonium lasted for years! I was obsessed with the art on the VHS case and kept it for ages. I think it’s where my obsession for gold/black came from. Those catalogs are giving me some serious nostalgia. Wow! Thank you for sharing!

I still remember the night my parents surprised me with the ToyBiz Batman play set. They didn't have a lot of money, but they knew that I loved Batman and was absolutely gutted that I was too young to see it in the theaters. I've been gifted a lot of cool stuff in my life, but I think that still takes the cake as the best present/surprise I've ever gotten. Thanks for this trip back to the 80s, Justin.

WOW I love this video so much......I was an 8 year old kid when this glorious piece of film/comic history came out, so the massive amount of everything Batman during this time period was just an amazing time to be alive!! Like you said, I knew Batman mostly from reruns of the the Adam West show, as well as the Super Friends cartoon and subsequent Super Powers figure. This took my kind of passive interest in Batman to an entire other stratosphere of fandom!! So cool to see stuff like the catalogs/magazines and whatnot that I always saw references to, but never actually owned. I still have all my old '89-'90 Batman toys, and I was fortunate to have they entire ToyBiz collection, as well as a large chunk of the Kenner Dark Knight Collection growing up. Sooooo many memories of not only playing with those figures with my friends, but the hunt to find all that stuff in stores!! I remember that looooong search for the actual Batman ToyBiz figure, that was pretty much non-existent in any store in the bay area. My best friend went on vacation and somehow found a store with them somehow in stock, and his parents bought one for both of us....THAT was up and above the call of our friendship!! hahaha..........anyways man, thanks for the trip down memory lane. I think I'm gonna dig out all my '89 Batman related stuff.......

Such a great upload and brought back so many memories from my own childhood. I was 8 years old and visiting my grandparents in NYC when the film hit theaters. I remember the Batman logo and Joker imagery being everywhere I went. I distinctively remember my parents ordering me a Batman figure and driving me up to Toys “R” Us to pick it up when it came in. Also remember driving up to Blockbuster with my dad and picking up a VHS copy of Batman which they had also pre-ordered. I visited my grandparents the summer of 1990 and instead of Batman, it was Warren Beatty‘s Dick Tracy that was everywhere!

Your video made my day! I was born in 82 and saw 89 Batman on summer vacation in Oregon, at old Egyptian theater. when I was obviously seven. When we got the VHS I watched it every day on summer vacation. A friend of mine gave me a model that he built of the Batmobile. I played with that thing even though you’re not supposed to LOL. To this day (just turned 38… ) I still have 89 Batman dreams sometimes… Sadistic joker type stuff… I’m pretty sure I can quote the entire movie. Favorite movie ever. Kind of feel like I was raised by those characters LOL
Course Batman returns was dark too and scary. The clowns, for a 10 year old. My mom dropped me off by myself to see that one in our small town in California. Lodi.

I love this Video!!! 1989 was the year I was born (Just turn 31 on Friday) and I love this movie. The first time I watched BATMAN: 1989 was with my father when I was 7 or 8 years old, I was scared but this was the first time I found out who Batman was. (I just got the LEGO BATMOBILE in the mail last week). Jurassic Park is my favorite movie as a kid and now I'm collecting everything from Jurassic Park: Toys, Movies, Posters, Trading Cards, etc. Thank you for sharing your collection!!!

Love this! I was born in 93 but Batman was and always has been my favorite superhero so I ended up with a lot of these toys growing up. Now that I’m collecting them again, I really wish I would’ve never gotten rid of mine 😅

I really enjoyed your story and experience...it was a magical time for movies and toys. I had just graduated from College when this movie came out but I loved ALL of the hype surrounding this movie...loved the toys too which must have inspired my huge collection that would come later. The franchise was so cool. Thanks for sharing....such a cool video bc you clearly had caught the bug like many of us did at the time. I’m still obsessed. Thanks again!!!

Well, you totally nailed it for me! And I feel the same way about all those movies! 89 Batman holds many special memories, even for a little girly-girl like I was, since it was the 2nd movie I ever saw in theaters too! (also after 'Little Mermaid'. I was 4) And I promise, I'll buy a hat or something someday. Thanks for making 2020 go down a bit easier for us!

Its fun to watch and hear your obsession with Batman. I too loved that movie. It brings back memories of my obsession with Star Wars. I appreciate all your videos, especially on my chemo days. It helps to bring smiles to my face when I feel my worse. Thank you!
