My mother tried to participate in that lawsuit due to the discrimination her father experienced as a farmer. She passed before she was able to get any results. Very sad what our parents and grandparents had to endure.
I didn't have the information needed to complete the process. For some reason they didn't pass down the details of the discrimination her father experienced. The time had expired by the time I found out she hadn't completed it anyway. This was after her death. I wish I knew then what I found out after the fact! I sure would've helped her.

But my white supervisor did everything in his power not to promote me. Vilsack agreed with that old school boy network. Can you imagine being the only black supervisor in a office without getting promoted. The USDA department is one of the worst department and will do everything to keep blacks down. I could say more but read my court report yes it’s on line. That goes for the judge and all of those involved in my case they protected. He made sure that I did not win the case. My grandfather was a farmer in Coldwater, Ms. He taught me a lot and I experienced a lot. I was dress in my cute little outfit. Not knowing any better I stuck my umbrella into a hornet's nest and was stung several times on my neck. I cried and went and sat in my grandfather car. My GF noticed I wasn't in church so he came looking for me. My neck was swollen and I remember my GF took out some tobacco chewed it and placed it on where I was stung. Thank God and my GF he saved my life. I'm an old G now and I don't like anything that can sting. Lesson well learned.
As a black man, I will say the land should be given back to our Native/Indigenous sisters and brothers first . We need to recognize all Native/Indigenous Peoples and let them know that they are not invisible and we stand with them and also recognize they are the rightful owners of all of this land.

I remember when President Obama was an organizer, law professor, or a Senator talking about filing a lawsuit against the Department of Agriculture on behalf of Black farmers. I cannot remember what year it was, but it was definitely before he was President of the United States. That lawsuit did take place and was won. Then after Obama was elected president, it was brought to his attention that the Black farmers were still not getting their settlement. President Obama ordered that money be disbursed to the Black farmers. The money was going out to Black farmers until Trump took office.
