When I bought my place, I moved in before I had finished renovating too. Dust is a killer. What worked for me was mixing PVA glue, 1 part glue to 4 parts water and mopping the floor with it. When it dries, it binds the loose dust and is non-sticky. It also stops dust from damaging underlay under wood floors and carpets when you put your flooring down. Enjoy this time. It's shit, but it's also amazing!

GENE! Get yourself a bag of sweeping compound from the home store, it might be near the brooms. It’s rubbery red junk that sticks to all the dust (it’s super useful for getting drywall dust on concrete). Super easy to sweep up, way more effective than a broom, mop or vac alone.
For concrete floors, mix 1 part PVA glue (yes school glue) to 6 parts water and paint it on the concrete floor. It will seal the surface and stop the concrete from turning to powder 👍

just mop and change the water as soon as it gets cloudy. you cant clean the floor with dirty water.... no soap just water. i installed tile for 15years and the only way to clean dust off the floor is clean water. do it and the floor will get clean. you can use the tub as a mop bucket to make changing the water every 3 minutes less work. a tile sponge one wipe per side then dunk and squeeze twice, repeat is the best way to get it prefect and if you are sweeping dust you have to sweep it slow or the dust will get back in the air and back on the floor. that floor will come clean with one pass if the water is always clean but sweep it slow first to make your clean water last longer. BTY this is the most important step before installing tile on the floor.

Congrats guys! Cardboard is definitely a relative huge step up from concrete or tarps. I just hope the rest of your renovations don't take too long. The tear out is always the easy part and lulls everyone into a false sense of progress. I have friends who have been working on the first floor of their house for over a year now and it still isn't finished.
Paint the floors.. it will keep the dust and other stuff in place, just until you get your flooring in. My basement was always dusty even in a new house until I painted the floors.
Not sure if you’re running your HVAC right now but look into changing the filters often until your house work is complete or you reach a good holding point. We ran hepa filters in our room while we lived in our remodel.
V I N E G A R!!! I had to live like this for a while too. The trick to cleaning thinset is vinegar! If you're gonna be waiting much longer for the flooring then mop once with vinegar and water and then maybe one more time with an all purpose cleaner. Good luck!

You should get some box fans and some box-fan-sized furnace filters and make some DIY air purifiers.
I second this. We bought air purifiers as the fires really messed with our health. (Asthma) The DYI with box fans seems simple to create when I looked into them. Plus I'm sure you all can have fun with fans somehow!

There is a product that you can use to acid the concrete floor it takes out all the dust it’s great before you prime and paint the basement floor Or a garage floor.

That's why cement dust is deadly! You should ceale the cement floor before covering it otherwise the dust will always get out.

Me and my gf also just moved to our new place (near her family house too) which is also gonna be my studio.. unfortunately, I'm using it for isolation. got tested positive w covid a few days after i moved in. Hehe can totally relate to Gene's focusing on task capabilities too haha

Gene, i wouldn't worry about the chip, over the time you have the car you will get plenty of them, when it comes time to sell the car get them all fixed at once or while its kind of new get it color wrapped to protect it

All those warnings about refurbing a house? Re-read them three times. My wife and I are going on three years in our remodel. The money we've saved paid for a ton of cement and two nice decks so I'm happy even if I am slow at getting stuff done. Good luck! Can't wait to see the finished product!

You can primer the floor and seel all the dust particles in before finishing the floor. It is alot more work but it'll help with the dust build up even after the floor is all done!
dont primer the floor, you may do more harm than good. no matter what if you dont clean the dust up first anyway anything you put on that slab will not stick. just watch the epoxy floor fails, it's always dust. almost every time i have ever had to pull a tile up off a floor in 15 years of installing tile it was because of dust. roll a nickel on your tile floor, that hollow sound is most likely dust that prevented the tile, thinset and slab from becoming one. if you want to see a tile-man sweat just roll a nickel over his work before you hand him the check.
@@hcwilkinson if it's a concrete slab definitely don't primer it but if the sub floor is made of OSB you can primer it to lock in the dust particles and still have no problem finishing your floors
I’ve been renovating my master bathroom for 3 years 🤣 it’s takes a while when you balance a job and life and stuff. Finally nearing completion though, plumbing done, electrical done, ready for tile.

get a carpet cleaner without any cleaning solution - spray down water, suck it up repeatedly...several days apart and maybe 3 times or so and you'll reduce the fine dust stuff substantially...

You guys have guts moving into a house which does not have floors. Moving your stuff from one room to another to get the floor done feels like so much work. All the best!

3:33 that's one of the reasons I didn't get a tesla, they are notoriously expensive to fix in terms of body work and paint. That's why tesla had to start their own insurance company cause most insurance companies wouldn't insure them in the beginning.
