From a kid who grew up in a coffee shop I can confidently say your nervousness and excitement is totally comprehensible. It is no joke running a business like that, you should know more than anyone.
There's just a few things I'd recommend:
-Always clean the tables after the customers leave (I've seen lots of places skip this step, leaving the customer to set the previous customers things aside and only getting a clean table after ordering);
-Clean the floor as regularly as possible, don't leave it for the end of the day;
-If you have bathrooms available for the customers, don't have them ask for the key to go do their necessities. People tend to get embarrassed and it's a common reason for people to dislike certain establishments;
-Try to innovate, this means anything you want it to mean, it may not always work but at least you'll have fun;
-Smile;
I think you probably already know those tips but just in case. Either way, I hope that the project goes really well, quite a shame I can't visit.

TIP from a long-term coffee shop owner: Do your "MISE EN PLACE"!!! Prepare everything you need in advance, so you never get into trouble when you are stressed. To have all the important things around you, like ingredients and work-tools, makes working 90% easier. Come early, be prepared, start your work relaxed. You learn to do your "MISE EN PLACE" in tourism academies on the very first day ;)

Hey Gene! I would love to send you guys some coffee to taste from the coffee shop that I shoot content for. My wife is their Production Manager and handles all wholesale and all things partners. The company is Fulton Street Coffee Roasters located in Fresno, CA and we focus on fair trade coffee. Basically we make sure that the coffee farmers where we source our beans are paid properly and taken care of. No cutting corners. Since you liked the Guatemala roast the most, I would recommend a Kenya or Ethiopia. Let me know if that is something you'd be interested in getting sent! congrats on the coffee shop:))) dang, I can't believe I was late for the party. We have a family-owned coffee shop and the one thing I've learned that keeping it running through the pandemic is that, someone should oversee every corner of your services. Like in a very passionate way, to push it through the first stages. I've been learning the process of the whole coffee thing from the cherry to cup and it's really a whole level of knowledge to uncover and digest. I really underestimated the process😅. I've been informally training as a barista and it took me like a solid 6 months to get the art decent, and another year in trying to understand the concept of calibrating an espresso. Food theory and all that jazz play an important role in that. Don't ever compromise with your barista, because they will really make the difference, believe me.

I recently just got into coffee. (Somewhat) dark roast is eh. I have to have tons of sugar and sweetener, and all that because it's wayyyy to bitter. Idk when I'll ever be out in Cali, but I'll have to check it out eventually! Live all the way in Wisconsin.

I recently got the Aputure Amaran 100D which I believe is comparable to the Smallrig and it's great! Not able to go on battery power however, but it's a solid choice over the dated Godox sl60w. I heard the 200D has a bad fan noise so not sure on that one...

Gene, I'm off-topic here but I'd like to know if you plan to review the Zhiyun MasterEye Visual Controller VC100 and compare its compatibility with the Weebill S and other Zhiyun gimbals you have. I do know it requires the TransMount Video Transmission Transmitter AI. I'm a one-man show on the videos I record of my work. My thought is to use a tripod and use this device so I can narrate & zoom in on objects of discussion without the worry of banging into things in people's homes. For my work, I have between 2 to 4 hours to discover & record videos of my findings. It's run & gun filming on the fly & having a cameraman employed is not an option. I have the Weebill S with a Sony Alpha 6600. I'm trying to avoid replacing the Weebill S as I purchased it shortly before the Weebill 2 debuted. Your thoughts and any insight would be of great interest to many others besides myself.

I want a video about lighting rigging solutions. I've worked in cinema, but not enough to know how to rig a car. Hang an arri sun from a rope outside a building or how to use flags properly. I guess that's a full udemy course or workshop at the ASC.

Gene, if you're going to give away (secret) cards with shooting locations, maybe you could start numbering or titling your vlog posts and you could list those locations on the card in relation to the episode they appeared in, like a Hollywood tour star map.
I used a T bar light stand to hold up my gazebo roof while I fixed it after a storm! They do come in handy 👍👍 oh, and when I moved, I too used it as a clothes hanger 😁🥳

I have an Amaran 100d, love it. Sure it is comparable with the small rig. Love the ADHD talk. Growing up I had ADD, working In restaurants help me learn to focus by being screamed at. Still have to focus on focusing.

I have an Aputure 100x and 200d.. I've had them since they came out and by far I love them! They are great for an "at-home" studio set-up but I've used it for freelance work too.. but its a hassle looking for an AC plug. Might have to invest in the Aputure 2-Bay Aputure station to help. I also feel like they fixed the fan noise of the 200d so its amazing!

This is probably a ridiculous thing to post here, but one of my friends introduced me to Beanstock Hazelnut Coffee, roasted in Wellfleet, MA, and it is so good that I get to custom shipped to where I live in NY. Everyone who I've ever let try it swears it's one of the best tasting Hazelnut Coffee's they've ever had. I know it's a much, much further distance to CA, and I'm not sure how well it would hold up to the shipping distance , but if it does it is some truly AMAZING coffee.
