I read a book once about olive farmers near Nice in France (and probably other areas too), who have to, by law, remove all overgrown bush, brush, etc, and clear firebreaks around their land, and to maintain this all year long, because the risk of wild fires is so great. Perhaps this area should start planning ahead too.

Back when I was stationed at Camp Pendleton our Marine units would occasionally get called in to fight fires as well. I hate to admit a couple fires were started by us on accident, but we put them out everytime!!!

Praying for the lives of the people and pets first but so heartbroken for the loss of everything. I lived through a fire where I lost everything I owned. I was safe, my kids and cat was safe but the loss of our entire house, memories, clothes, furniture was overwhelming and we never completely recovered. So many times I wanted to look at my children's baby pictures as they are now grown adults but there is nothing. Both my parents have passed and I have no pictures to remember them. The quilts my great grandmother made for me- gone. We rebuilt our lives but still even today 22 years later there is such a void and feeling of loss. For most who suffer complete loss they never recover financially as most insurance doesn't cover ''acts of god''. After our loss I really put into perspective how fancy houses, clothes, the best furniture, jewelry, really means nothing and we need to live our lives without the constant striving to possess things.

Praying for the lives of the people and pets first but so heartbroken for the loss of everything. I lived through a fire where I lost everything I owned. I was safe, my kids and cat was safe but the loss of our entire house, memories, clothes, furniture was overwhelming and we never completely recovered. So many times I wanted to look at my children's baby pictures as they are now grown adults but there is nothing. Both my parents have passed and I have no pictures to remember them. The quilts my great grandmother made for me- gone.
We rebuilt our lives but still even today 22 years later there is such a void and feeling of loss. For most who suffer complete loss they never recover financially as most insurance doesn't cover ''acts of god''.
After our loss I really put into perspective how fancy houses, clothes, the best furniture, jewelry, really means nothing and we need to live our lives without the constant striving to possess things.
