  • In today's video, I spend a few rainy hours in my back porch blind making bird photos with my Nikon Z6 and the NIKKOR Z 180-600 f/5.6-6.3 VR telephoto zoom lens. It took a little while to get going but eventually, I bagged a few decent photos. Thanks for watching!

    Wonderful. I happiest in my yard and blind with all the same birds. Life is good.

    I own that same lens with the z8. At 25ft, It will be so easy to get a 45mp image focused on the eye. No need for pin-point focus box just use the wide large focus box and you are good to go.

    Practice, Persistence, and Patience ! This is what it takes to capture these beautiful creatures.
    I’m impressed You managed to get some great shots with that ‘antiquated’ Z6, Phil! 😯 😂 I am sure there will be some great buys coming up on Z6’s, mainly Z6II’s, with the coming release of the Z6III. I’m thinking about picking up a Used Z6/ Z6II.
    Hope You're doing well, and stay safe and well, and Happy Shooting!

    House finches are abundant in Northeast OH too. We’ve had one with yellow coloring that has shown up to our feeder twice this year. At first I was stumped, like what the heck is that! A little searching on Google told me this is a genetic aberration! I got 1 bad picture in the spring, but it sure keeps me vigilant at the feeder this year! I wish I had a blind set up like yours to be a little more stealth. My feeders are in the backyard, close to the house. I literally have to go out the front door and around the house to get a shot without spooking any potential subject, and hope they are still there!

    Good stuff, Phil. You didn't ask, but let me give you an identification. I think the fly at about 1:30 is actually a "Flesh Fly." (Macabre name, but they are attracted by the same things that attract House Flies.)

    Phil, I shoot canon R5 with the 100-500. How does this lens compare? Nikon sure tempts me on the lens side. Maybe a matchup of the 2 lenses? For now, I’m waiting on the R7ii to see if the reach and features with my lens is a good combo. Canon is so slow to bring out new gear, I may just get tired of waiting! I will never own a monster prime due to cost and tbh weight. I will stick with medium price range for my gear. I really enjoy the channel, thanks for doing these!

      I might make a video explaining why I won't be buying one. It does look like a really great camera. Just not for me at the moment. My next Nikon will be an unannounced Highline DX camera or maybe a Z8.

      If it has a fully stacked and higher mp sensor, it is a Z8.... You're waiting for a camera that already exists?

    Are there any issues using silent shutter and photographing birds? I have it on my Z 5 too. I have used it with bird photography when I'm close to the bird spot.

    • @PhilThach
      @PhilThach  2 месяца назад +1

      If the bird is moving quickly there can be rolling shutter distortion when using the silent shutter. So, when doing birds in flight, I suggest not using silent. For perched birds, silent is fine.

      @mizachs 2 месяца назад

      @@PhilThach Ok good to know you've not had any issues with the silent shutter 😊
