In this video, I speed through some of the mistakes I've seen my students make on their leads. These are the most common mistakes producers beginner=intermediate are making on their leads. Some of the errors we look at are Overwidening, Sidechaining Too Much, Too Much Reverb, Over Layering, and THE BRIGHTNESS TRAP

Great video! Always good to repeat old knowledge! You're always a good source Zen! :D
Always quality content. Much appreciated! Keep it coming.
Straight to business and quality advice as usual. Thanks zen!
The reference of Jeffrey dahmar with sidechain bruh killed me 😂
Best tutorials on RUclips hands down bro 💯
When I started making music I always thought less is more in most cases when it comes to layering leads for example, recently been paying more attention on the soundselection at the start to begin with, seems to make layering easier :D Good stuff as always man
great tips!
Thanks!
The track in this tutorial is bringing me back to og zen world days
i'LL GO Back one day!

One more time " less is more ". thank you for another dope tutorial Zen brother. after this tutorial I went back and fixed the awful side chains on my leads,🤣 I m back to leave a comment. I guess the best way to learn is to apply it immediately. I also wish other plugins had this built-in DUCKING fader like FF Timeless. it really saves time instead of setting it up manually. Duck and EQ should be on every FX plugin hope I m not asking a lot lol
Hey zen. What if you mono and pan 2 layers to create stereo width?
BEEN SMASHING YOUR MUSIC ON SPOTIFY MY GUY.. KEEP IT UP
Thanks dude more to cone

I generally put Reverb on a return track and try to glue it in with my mix. I'll add vocal shots and support pads/synths there. I avoid too much reverb because it takes up a lot of head space. Yep I don't put too much reverb on my leads as it drowns the "lead" , which you want people to hear/focus on. It does make the sound big but leads generally have many notes/ ever changing sounds which gets lost a in a big room reverb. This is just personal experience I've noticed.
In hardstyle they use a gated reverb on the leads. You get a big sound, but lead doesn't drown in reverb.
what headphones are you using? been looking for some not to replace my HS8's but something that is good for on the go production like traveling or just maybe I don't want to sit in my studio late at night and cause a bunch of noise.

love the video. hate the thumbnail

Hey zen quick question. What is the difference from using lfo tool and just creating the same lfo shape in serum and Appling it the volume or cut off filter?
No difference at all. Just make sure your LFO is set to 1/4.
@@Mopark25 awesome, Thak you!! There is so many ways to duck noise I wasn't sure if one was better than the other.
@@kobejaworski1417 whatever gets the job done baybeee
Thing with using serum is that you don't have the customization such as trigger from midi/audio for sidechaining to rhythms that go beyond 1/4, 1/8 etc, dry/wet control to soften the effect, applying the plugin on to a bus/group. But if you're sticking with normal rhythm then yes that's fine.
@@crismeisters yeah im not there yet lol.
Algún día volverás a hacer tutoriales en español?
SI pero necessito un nuevo canal y editor
Hypersquare growls!
I use the same amount of reverb as Guetta and Morten. That means I use ALL OF THE REVERB!
Great tutorial bro. That’s fukn lead sucks
What if i want my lead to fuckin pump zen?? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Do you edit your own videos
Yes not as heavily anymore :(
@@ZenWorld Honestly just impressive that you have the time for it in the first place
Eh yes but I'm a sound designer I wanted to edit it myself for the longest but I chose to go less edit more sound design now. Thanks for noticing my man.@@peterwilhelm2000
Zen, aren't you tired after all of these years of sound-design? It's all about making same sounds over and over.
This video, like all the others you put out are just 🤌. Thank you.
