At age 3, @akanemsko learned chess. At 5, she won a Finland national championship. At 16 she became a woman grandmaster. Then - she quit. When you’ve spent your entire life winning a game you now hate playing - where do you go next?
Today Nemo shares why she quit chess, how she became a top Twitch streamer, and how she made peace with her parents on the Karat podcast.

Such a good episode! Nemo is so well spoken 🤍
OMG Nemo was based in Finland
I'm a black person living in Mexico
Loved the episode! A lot of what Nemo said really resonated with me as someone that played videogames and a sport. I really struggled with that feeling of “What am I doing?” as I tried to balance playing with working as an adult
I find this a painful watch in a good way I think! Both the thought of Nemo's childhood but also a reminder of more indefinite troubles of my own!
Thanks Eric!! Love this podcast sm
she should be an actress
Agreed. She lives in toronto. She needs to relocate to NY city and get an agent.
why do you say that?
@@tittyskillet3413 why do you say that, out of curiosity? like what about her makes you feel like she should be an actress?
@@mo-akif because she is a talented personality that should be on the big screen, plus she is a wgm at chess and a champion at poker. On top of that, she’s young at 24, and gorgeous and successful. WHAT HAVE YOU DONE IN LIFE? Riddle me that.
@@mo-akif out of all that group of chess gurls, nemo is the most talented. She can be an actor. At 5’7”, she has the height, the looks, the personality, the humor, the laugh. Nemo needs to get an agent while she’s still young and marketable. Nemo…now is your time. Hire an agent to market your brand.
great story - but i will never lose my love for the game of chess
Thank you for this podcast!
She is really intelligent.
Great podcast 🫶🏻.
Awww thank you!
I am a big fan.❤❤❤❤
Bobby Fischer ended up hating chess right?
I believe so!
Legends
They'd make a good couple. But I think she's 10 years older than him.
who wouldn't hire her
😮
Also coming from Asian background I understand for you two meant in in terms of dealing with parents and their expectations.
I know the feeling.
Great! I love chess and League of Legends.
