The conclusion was great and I agree not 4 times but 5 times over. Thanks and I will be sharing this video with a few people that I know will really help out as well👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks, looking back I should have added the conversion to fit a full size servo rather than the Vaterra midi sizes ones for gear shifting.. those Midis kept burning out on me
@@kravenkrawlhobby5438 cant remember exactly but think it was 2-3 months.. they're an awkward size to replace so that's why I converted to a full size servo.. more options and I was able to get a waterproof one with metal gears.. got a full size in my Twin Hammers too
Alan Murray setting the end points mean having a digital radio to do all that. I tried servo savers and just trying to get the stroke right but it’s complicated without the right radio and I wouldn’t not how to do that anyway
awesome video. thanks for the parts list. i have a RTR K5 and i just bought the RC4WD blazer body kit, i'm going to have the vaterra torn apart to change the wheelbase so i think i'll do this while i have it apart. i already have some of the smaller parts in your list laying around.
Good to know it helps DB.. doing the RC4WD Blazer too but on a TF2 chassis at the moment.. that hard bodies really good though a tad expensive here in the UK..
Alan Murray man, i wanted to get it from tower hobbie at 139$ plus a 15$ discount with free shipping but it wasn't in stock on wednesday. so i ordered it on ebay at 139$ plus 12$ shipping. on thursday, tower hobbies had it back in stock! i also have a TF2 but i love how the ascender chassis articulates. i love the leafs on the tf2 but it's just too damn stiff. and the shooter shackles are too expensive!
Awesome! you saved me a ton of time! I must return to my local hobby store to order more parts now! Well the many more I now just realized that I also need, thanks to your video. Thanks a bunch!
All you NEED TO BUY is Shift Linkage set(and servo) High and low gear set Shift fork set 4x8x3 bearings 5x10x4 bearings Twin hammers $28 gear set And the spacer/shims Unless you are completely redoing the whole thing
Sorry, it’s been a few minutes but what size E-clips are use for the shifting fork assembly. Thanks and great video, love your step by step method. Makes it nice for a guy to customize his Ascenders easily. Gonna be doing this to 4 of them.
I cant remember offhand but Im pretty sure they are 5mm same as in the Twin Hammers.. new shaft kit comes from the twin hammers and Im pretty sure the two shafts were identical thickness
A common issue. cheapest solution is to mount the rear shocks outside of the mounts where they currently are to make them closer the wheels on the axle and use longer bolts. use an old ball joint or spacers to fill the space where the shocks originally were.
@@AlanMurrayAnAerialObservation thanks Alan. If I would to resolve what would to be changed? I started to put 4 front links but torque effect is the same.
@@matteoferrari8002 3 link works better I find. look at the rear shock position on this builders picture, all you need are some longer bolts and captive nuts, this is how its done www.rctech.net/forum/crawler-room/972601-build-complete-vaterra-ascender.html#&gid=1&pid=6
I tried a couple of methods to fix that.. my best solution is to fit an Axial front anti sway bar kit to the rear of the Ascender.. a couple of spare link ends and larger washers are used to secure it through the rear chassis.. ts not the cheapest method but it definately works
To be clear: This mod doesn't require cutting anything, just installing the Twin Hammers 2-speed internals into the Ascender gearbox, is that accurate?
Hi Shawn, sorry for the delay. no cutting required, all the mods are internal and swap straight over. The only external thing is you need to remove the sticker on the top of the gearbox to expose the screw holes to mount the mini servo. just follow the gearbox build from the twin hammers manual for the internal build order (or this vid). The Twin Hammers engine mounting plate design is slightly different but not needed, use the ascender one
just got mine and this vid was the best thanks man great freaking job please do more ascender videos . Chech out my group at rcplayground on facebook and instagram

got myself a TF2 (with the Blazer body) too now,not as flexy as the Ascender but good fun too
Very helpful, Thanks

I know this is far into the future, but what if I just buy a stock transmission of the other rc. Will it still work as well and the same?
I was thinking the same thing.

Hi Alain. How did you make the Ascender go straight with out twisting I mean? My one has this issue

Thanks a lot for your reply!! If you can and if you want, can you show me that work by a new video or with pictures? Thanks in advance!
