Okay but can you convince ROB to read the next cozy mystery and then he tells you the summary as he goes along, much like you usually do for him?! Curious to see if he would lose his “guess the ending” mojo- or would you gain it?? 😂
loved the recommendations for different people!! let’s face it, Rob doesn’t need to read any of the Bones in the Begonia series books, he’s got the plot down without ever reading them🤣
I just wanted to say, your voice is so soothing I managed to fall asleep and stay like that during the whole video. Later I watched it again of course, but thank you for making your videos a safe space for me. ❤
I’m so excited to read The Beasts You Are whenever I can get my hands on it. I also gave four stars to a sliver of darkness and the only one left. My favourite book of the month was definitely Look Closer by David Ellis. Such a cleverly plotted, twisty, and surprising book!
Yessssss!! Shakespeare INSPIRED movies I'm totally into. 10 Things I Hate About You, She's the Man...totally my vibe. Actual play adaptations are a snooooze hahah
I loved Do You Dream of Terra Two and I've never known anyone else who's read it!! I even bought it for my sister and she didn't read it... I love some realistic space books. The Martian is one of my favourite books ever!
The way I was counting down the hours to this video just because I'm overly attached to the member TBR jar and I want to know the outcome of each book/whether we'll win the 6+/12 challenge!!
When I saw you loved Immortal Longings, I was a little worried that our tastes were diverging a bit far. I thought every bit of it was shallow and definitely not written with adults in minds. I only finished it as a hate-read so I could write a review with evidence. I'm about 30 pages into Chlorine, though, and I love it so far. Lovely writing and imagery, and it's a really original take on swimming and the pressure that high-level athletes deal with.
@@t0ebeansIf I hadn't been reading it for a book club, I would have too. I'm getting tired of seeing people excuse the nonexistent plot by saying there's potential for the next book. If I have to read a whole book of nothing just to set up what happens, you didn't need to write two books. You needed one. I was lucky enough to snag this one at my library, but I'd be disappointed if I paid full list price for a book and the best I could say about it was, "I'm hopeful that more will happen in the next book."
random video idea: reading the most polarizing books on my tbr. like, most ppl are rating it either 1 or 5 stars. not sure if there’s an easy way of getting that stat off goodreads but yeah, I thought about it while reading for video of reading the most and least popular books on your tbr :)
Loved The Only One Left! I had to picture the house on a California cliff side though because we’ve only had about 2 earthquakes in Maine my entire existence and they were quite small
I also really enjoy reading Shakespeare plays, I find that reading them rather than viewing a performance helps me enjoy the story in its "original" form, rather than having a director's vision on top of it, which can sometimes be distracting. You mentioned disliking film adaptations, which is totally fair, but how do you feel about watching Shakespeare live in theatres? So much of the dialogue is meant to be delivered directly to the audience/only makes sense in a physical theatre, so the plays just tend to work better on stage rather than in film.
I think you are spot on in your analysis of Immortal Longings. I'm a epic fantasy fan. It's the main genre that I read. I gave it 4.25 stars. I didn't have a problem with the pacing or the world-building because I'm used to epic fantasy which typically has a slower start. I also didn't have an issue with the romance because (again) I read a lot of epic fantasy and that genre rarely focuses on romantic elements. I think a lot of readers will pick it up based on the strength of her YA books and will end up a bit disappointed because the vibe isn't the same.
All of Chloe Gong's books are Shakespeare retellings and i agree that they aren't for everyone. The duology "These Violent Delights" is about 1920's Shanghai gangsters who are based on Romeo and Juliet and the only thing i didnt like were the bugs. If you know, you know 😅 And the Foul Lady Fortune duology is based on As You Like It with characters that we met in These Violent Delights. I find that they are quite enjoyable, however, they are slow going at first and it can be a particular taste in books, just like Immortal Longings.
Very interesting! I just Found by chance on amazon kindle this book, nice surprise; Murder on Deck 9 by Lorenzo Pagani: This is a classic murder mystery in the old school "Agatha Christie" sense. The author does a great job of pulling you in, keeping the pages turning even as your mind is simultaneously processing the new information and trying to figure out "whodunnit?" The Swiss detective remembered me a lot Poirot!
So excited to read The only one left now! I had only read Lock every door before this month and now I'm trying to read all the other ones 😊 which one is your favorite out of all?
That was a crazy project month for you, I respect the dedication 😅 Love your thoughts on Seven Moons, I was eyeing this book for a while and was on the fence about it, but you helped me decide should I read it or not 😂
i feel exactly the same way about the only one left!! I'll continue reading from Sager according to you ranking. I didn't really like home before dark tho but I have hopes for the other two
I finished The Frugal Wizards Guide to Medieval England by Brandon Sanderson the other day and I immediately wanted to recommend it to you. We don’t have a lot of the same taste in books but in this case I think you would love it. It’s a stand alone cozy fantasy/sci-fi book. I think you would enjoy it.
So surprised you liked Do You Dream of Terra Two! I really didn't like it, so illogical that I just couldn't get on board. If you haven't seen it, I'd recommend watching the Hamlet film that has David Tennant in it. I don't usually get on with Shakespeare films but that one is great
I just DNFed IMMORTAL LONGINGS almost 150 pages in. I liked some of the descriptive writing, but I couldn’t get into the story/characters at all and I don’t normally DNF books. I love fantasy and fantasy romance. Maybe I’ll pick it up again later, but I had to DNF for now.
i spent an embarrassingly long amount of time in the stats section wondering what exactly a book in the “play” genre entailed before realizing you meant you read a literal play 💀
Recommended Chlorine to my mom based off your summary in a different video and then I read it and was so horrified that I recommend it to my mom 🙃 (I liked the book just wouldn’t recommend to my mom if i really knew)
I can’t wait to read The Only One Left. I haven’t watched the live show, because I don’t want spoilers. Also: how is your copy a paperback??? I hate hardbacks, but have to deal with them for new releases.
I haven’t found a horror book released this year that’s been a 5 star yet 😕 I’ve got chlorine and monstrilio on the way though and I’m hopeful about those ☺️☺️
I am a mother of 3 adopted children who have never had contact with their birth parents (the birth mothers choice). Will The Haunting of Alejanda be triggering to me?
i agree booksnlala idk why but all the barbie media felt like, insensitive? which is not to be a hater but i definitely did not attend any showings, in solidarity too
editing my comment because it didn’t come off the right way. it’s great to not attend movies as a sign of solidarity but it also wouldn’t be crossing the picket line to see a movie that was created pre-strike. those who worked on those films deserve the revenue and recognition. it becomes a different story with media created after the strike started (if it involves relevant parties). so far the unions have not called for boycotting movies as that ultimately hurts the actual theaters (who are struggling after covid) more than the studios.
I hated The Only One Left lol. I figured out all but one twist. And I just don’t think Riley Sager should be writing from a woman’s POV. He’s not good at it. For example without spoiling anything (but those who have read it will know what i mean) a woman who just gave birth is going to be bleeding everywhere. Guess Mr sager forgot that.

Omg PERFECT way to relax before going to bed - perfect timing💜
I loved all the teen Shakespeare inspired movies of the late 90s, they were so much fun
Yessssss!! Shakespeare INSPIRED movies I'm totally into. 10 Things I Hate About You, She's the Man...totally my vibe. Actual play adaptations are a snooooze hahah

i still desperately need you to read earthlings 🦔 the vibe of chlorine sounds so similar to it that I'm like 100% confident you'll love it
Unfortunately I'll be skipping that one, I've heard the subject matter is too explicit and graphic for my comfort level.

A hard agree on immortal longings, I DNFed
That’s good to know because I didn’t like her original series (TVD) but wanted to try this. But your thoughts here, reaffirm that this isn’t for me

i had the same thoughts about the last, i’m a sucker for a murder mystery but i wish it was cut out and just focused on the survival aspects instead!

Do You Take This Man would have been an incredible name for a 80s style feminist punk rock band
If you haven´t read Penance by Kanae Minato, you definitely should. Just as good as Confessions but for some reason very underrated.
Hi Kayla!!
Hey bestie !! 👋🏻💕
I can’t wait to read The Only One Left. I haven’t watched the live show, because I don’t want spoilers. Also: how is your copy a paperback??? I hate hardbacks, but have to deal with them for new releases.
Maybe it's a Canadian publishing thing? I'm in Europe and many international versions of US books are big paperbacks instead of hardbacks.
Could be that it's an ARC she was sent
In Canada we had both the paperback and hardcover released on the same day!
@@BooksandLala lucky!!!!

I usually hate enemies to lovers. But Plie by AH Cunningham is a fantastic one to try if you want to try more in that sub genre
this was such a fun wrap up 💞
