    I LOVE how you get right into it without a lame ass intro that takes 30 secs! Mucho respect.

    I saw Dave w/Chick Corea back around 86 when he played at my college here in LA...I was in charge of setting up and drove Chick's right hand man to his house to pick up a last minute something. Took my drum teacher and he was floored by the bass player John Patitucci...then said, "That drummer never cracked a sweat...who is this guy!" I never heard of him until that performance.

    Thanks for your hard work breaking down these challenging licks. I think you do a great job explaining and demonstrating fills from these world class drummers. Anyone who thinks it's easy transcribing stuff like this is full of S%#@ and obviously has never tried their hand at such a tedious task.

    Love it Austin. Oh man, you made me for real LOL when you said he was still rocking the "the sick ass mullet and the traditional grip super far-back in the left hand..."! LOL
    Great breakdown, as usual.

    Thank you Austin, you have no idea how inspiring this is to me and other people to have someone take the time to really sit and watch/listen to a phrase/groove over and over and logically break it piece by piece. That's what all the great musicians did period. It's inspired me to really listen and understand what these guys are playing. Thank you again brother, peace.

    Dave's mullet definitely needs it's own video. You could breakdown how he achieves the perfect front length to back length ratio. How often and for how long did he blow dry his hair? These are things the hardcore Weckl fans need to know!

      Back in the day, drummers were far more interested in Gadd’s hairstyle and beard. When he shaved it, one of the mags commented “Gadd clones, get out your razors!”.

    The only regret I have after watching your channel is that WHY THE FUCK DIDN'T I DISCOVER THIS EARLIER! Love what you do man, I have spent so much time trying to understand a lot of interesting fills but gave up on most of them as understanding them with my limited knowledge and effort was a tough job. Thanks a lot for this channel :)

      Still is now even. Saw him at a clinic last year and it was mind blowing. He has a variety of chops that he can tie together seamlessly while soloing . Without even repeating the same fill much at all. I don't know how someone can have such a wide vocabulary of chops it's crazy.

    • @abbdrums
      @abbdrums  9 лет назад +1

      Sjoerd Beetsma It's an old DVD of his from around that time called "The Next Step." The section where he talks about hand/foot combinations is about an hour in. There's really good stuff on these DVD's so I'd definitely recommend checking them out if you get a chance.

  • @farclebaba
    @farclebaba 7 лет назад

    I still have several pairs of Weckl's old, pre-Freddie Gruber grip re-think sticks from back in the day. In a video clip, he talked about how his old sticks were basically weighted in such a way to make this super-far back traditional grip working better. When I bust those sticks out and play (I play trad grip mostly) I've found this to be exactly the case. Those old sticks were really long, and when you try to play them with the more conventional Gruber/Morello/Rich left hand placement, they do indeed feel funny...

    Anyone can answer me? How Logic works in this case? Did he generate the notes or had Logic listen and create itseld like how shazam works to identify music?

    sick lesson Austin! You dominated that fill. How did you get the midi drum sounds to sound that good in Logic x? Maybe you could give a tutorial on how to do drumming midi in Logic X. I don't know how to even program ghost notes.

    • @abbdrums
      @abbdrums  8 лет назад +1

      I do have a video on how to set up Logic for drum notation I did a while back. I'm also going to post a video shortly showing my process for transcribing so stay tuned for that.

    Hi. A question, you transcribe by ear or create midi clip?

    • @abbdrums
      @abbdrums  9 лет назад +1

      Ramiro Morais I have Logic set up to output the transcription for me when I program drums in the midi editor. I still have to transcribe by ear in terms of understanding what they are doing, but instead of manually notating out the transcription, I just program the drums in the piano roll and Logic automatically outputs the transcription for me.

    It's not a 6/8 feel. To me it has no musical sense to write in 6/8 so I think it's really in 3/4. Also some mistakes like missing notes or elements to be replaced.

    • @hegood
      @hegood 2 года назад +1

      Definitely 3/4

  • @TTFMjock
    @TTFMjock 4 года назад

    I'd hate to be that guy, but you mistranscribed the fill. Starting with the left tom on 1 (bar four in your writing, it goes (L)ssHsssHssHMFFMLLF*F* With the last foot being with crash. H is for high tom, M for Mid L for low. He only uses 3 toms on his right side.
    Sticking is LrlRllrLrrLrfflrlf*f.* Accents in capitals
