Question for anyone who has an opinion! Does this class of ship feel less like "Holland America" to you? This is the only ship class with HAL that I haven't been on. I write, and really like the quiet / relaxed atmosphere. Is that still there on Statendam and Koningsdam, or do you feel like they are they getting over into Norweigen / Royal Carribean territory with the vibe?
Jonathan Hankins I just got off the Nieuw Statendam and it’s still got that good ol’ HAL feel. I also prefer a quieter, more relaxed atmosphere and the bigger ships provide all sorts of nice places to chill out. Highly recommend.
I went on the Koningsdam 2 years ago, and there was a problem with noise from people walking through the Music Walk as during the performances, especially the Lincoln Center Stage. Even though the moved the Lincoln Stage to the BB King, I wonder if the people noise still is evident. I am glad they made the toilet in the cabins more accommodating than in the Koningsdam. I am surprised they allow smoking in the casino. In the Niew Amsterdam I recently sailed as part of a charter, smoking was not allowed.
What a beautiful ship. I checked out the video because I was curious about the ship and wanted to book a cruise. But, the narrator(and that's a kind word) was awful. I can't believe the HA would attempt a sell on this line with the BS. I had to mute him because he was so annoying.
This ship is a nightmare for smokers, the only smoking place is in the back of the ship, where there is constant wind and the floor is constantly wet. Even worse they have a "policy" that you can only smoke in the casino if you are actively gambling...it ruined my vacation.
The music is too loud. I can't completely understand some words. I totally need this for my assignment but it's giving me hard time to understand some words because of the loud background music and the rythm.

Holland America serves older people or people who need a quiet life. A simple Google search will inform you of that. If you find that boring, yes, take a different cruise.
This was the most boring ship I’ve been on. All music venues are together with music cross playing. The food is not all great. The lido is not self serve and feel like a soup kitchen and asking for food. The signature drink package has hideous grocery store wines like Caliterra and 8$ Barringer rose. My non- drinking spouse had to buy full alcohol package since I had one. Dining room hostesses had no clue how t o seat us and we were placed in corners or odd tables for 6. The best resto was the Tamirin and the Dutch cafe. The ship shuts down at 11pm...not cool. What a disappointment of 14 days on board. The only good music was BB king.....thank goodness. Others were off key. Dance was wonderful though. Hal is about economy and making money. The greenhouse spa had this slamming door and loud water spas....not relaxing and a waste of money. The gym was good. Sorry, I am a veteran cruiser and this failed us. Unfortunately it was an anniversary cruise.

This is really strange. Robo voice, computer generated visuals with just a few actual human beings, and digitized music. The dancers were real and very good. When I was a musician on a few cruise ships 40 years ago, everything was analog and real. Now we're living in the world of the Matrix and nothing can be trusted, including this "video".

The ships are an evolution for the line, but the quiet places are still there, particularly a welcome observation lounge.
We were on the Koningsdam in 2016. We loved it! Now we are booked on the Nieuw Statendam Dec. 2021 Caribbean and same ship in May 2022 Mediterranean.

The noise bleed is much better on Nieuw Statendam as they're using divider doors more frequently.

No, OceanMedallion is exclusive to Princess Cruises for now.
