You're up early John. Another tidy little job to keep a big engine running, very nice.

" There's a valve in there somewhere, I just gotta find it". I laughed, I haven't heard that in a while.

Good result John. May I suggest an old school tip? If you reduce one of those tightening lugs in length, if it ever works loose again, it won't unscrew fully and drop off. It will only unscrew less than one revolution until the heaviest/longest lug is at the bottom. Like a one lugged wing nut. Gravity prevents the lug from unscrewing itself uphill. The heaviest lug remains at the lowest point when loose.

I was mentally shouting at my tablet, "5/16 BSW, John." But you didn't hear me. Doubt that there are many of us have not made a mistake like that. But not many RUclipsrs prepared to show it. Another nice little job John.

Ha. Another source of hot air (and oil). Laugh. You laugh at yourself. My turn. But I have done a lot of other jobs where my so called friends take the mickey out of me. Retired mechanic/machinist in old convict settlement Down Under.

Is there any packing in the valve? I didn’t see it in the video, also it seems that there is no packing nut. I would expect that the steam and oil would escape through the orifice where the needle screws in, but it looks like they don’t. I’m trying to build small and minimal valve for pressurized gasoline and looking for some ideas

The valve spindle has a seat at both ends
It only seals full open or closed .
That is all it needs to do

To anyone sitting on the fence in regards to supporting John on patreon, Ive been happily supporting him since he started his patreon page. The quality and the amount of content he makes available cant be beaten. Id highly recommend doing it because you really are getting value for money, especially compared to other larger youtubers.
