1° *Baresi* Faced the best generation of 9 shirts in the world
2° *Beckenbauer* He stopped the greatest tactical genius of the four Cruyff lines
3° *Maldini* The best defender of his generation, weighs not to have a World Cup, is acclaimed as the perfect defender by all his rivals
4° *Scirea* The greatest and best defender of the 80's, monster regularity and tactical notion out of series, stopped Zico and Maradona in one cup, great
*The biggest defenders in the history of world football, I'm Brazilian.*

it is an art ur right. The same way theres footwork in dribbling, attacking and being on the ball, there is defending and being off it. Getting it back shows intelligence and knowledge of dribbling/footwork and in itself requires u to have good footwork to follow it and win it back, and go in at the right time. Aside from just foot races and shoulder to shoulder battles where its all in the physicality, 1 on 1s requires footwork and timing the same way dribbling does. Ur having to do the same thing as the attacker effectively in a lot of instances but without the ball (this is something that gets overlooked too often)

When foreign players invaded England, starting in the 70's all the way through to now, the tough Germans used to go down if there was a sniper in the ground, Klinsman for eg and he was well in the Barasi era.

He had everything - extremely smart with lazer like precision with his anticipation, postioning and clean challenges, quick, fine passer, brave, deceptively strong, supremely consistent, lots of heart, and a great professional. He was one of those players who could have been outstanding in a number of positions given his overall quality. His 2-3 week recovery from a serious injury just in time to play in the 94 World Cup final (and excel in it) really is legendary. I was devastated that he, Baggio and Maldini didn't win that day.

I had a wonderful moment to watched the Serie A weekly report broadcast to us once a week on those days. Still fresh in memory some of great Milan players: Rijkaard, Gullit, Van Basten, Maldini, Albertini, Massaro, Contacurta, to name a few. Such a great moment. Viva 1990’s.

A real defense chief with high game intelligence ... the best example of this was the legendary offside trap by AC milan in the late 80s early 90s with Baresi as libero and clock, and the triple chain in front of him with Costacurta central, Maldini on the left and Tassotti on the right to dominate a true power demonstration in Europe (5 times in the final of the CL in 7 years !!! ) ... it was a little long ago, but still a piece of football history with Baresis signature
