That’s how I was taught in high school (many many decades ago) when they taught us how to use hand tools. It gave me a great appreciation for hand work. The bonus is that now I can choose some tasks to do with hand tools and others with power tools. Power tools are all just quicker and easier ways to do what can be done by hand. It also teaches you good hand/eye coordination. You have good hand/eye coordination. It’s easy to see as you work the wood. Nice job sir and keep up the good work.
Invented to flatten butcher blocks, they are just a commercial stunt. They have a 12° bed angle and a 25 to 30° bevel, that total to an angle of attack of 37 to 42°. Common pitch planes have a 44 to 45° angle of attack (depend if you sharpen with a back bevel), not much different.
Superb balance between soft music and woodworking sounds, it was a joy to watch as always. As a hand tool woodworker I'd love to see a bit more detail in dimensioning the stock since thicknessing wasn't shown in the video
Love your videos man. I took this for inspiration and am building one like this but a little longer at 48" I just got done cutting all the dovetails and was gonna start the glue up but I may need to add a support beam. I'm new to woodworking and didn't anticipate the longer length makes it a lil wobbly. Wish me luck🤞🏼
Holy moly! If you wanted to go viral you could do some stuff where you just cut back and forth between your chisel time and my chisel time. And I’d say keep the music about the same :)))
I love watching this kind of hand tool woodworking. U made a beautiful job of those Dovetail Joints my friend. i SET UP MY #3 PLANE for the 1st time last night and used it and I enjoyed the experience so much. I got not too bad shaving but I still have to get it down to a fine almost see through shaving but over the next few weeks I'm going to hone my skill level to get the correct shavings once I get it to work properly. I never felt as good woodworking until I used the hand saws and the planes last night. There's something really rewarding about it. I felt really good. I was out in my small workshop til nearly 3am. i BOUGHT THE #3 & #4 HAND PLANES. i THINK THE #4 IS A FINISHING PLANE BUT i DIDN'T SET IT UP LAST NIGHT. I will get it out of the cardboard box tonight and I think I'm going to attempt a wooden box build from scratch. I will cut some form of either dovetail or box joint for the corners. I need to make a shooting board now too. The end grain I struggle with last night.
Stunning. That is the best example of basic woodworking skills performed with absolute perfection. I could watch that all day. Well done. Keep up the great work. P.S. The editing is also magic.
Very nice piece, simple, but elegant, will last several lifetimes. To the wood, if I'm not mistaken, that's Mahogany or of that family. A lot of people wouldn't think so because a lot o f people stain mahogany much darker and that's what they're accustomed to, but natural mahogany is actually very light - I have some pieces/logs I just cut a few weeks ago to work with, hoping that I manage to get something nice out of them.
Thank you so much🤗 Most say it's sapele! Most likely it is. I have leftover mahogany and it's really deep dark in color and heavier than that. But this wood is beautiful and durable!
Very precise cuts for the dovetail, beautiful wood grains, excellent combination of music and exquisite editing of the video.... perfect combination, nothing more could be asked for. Greetings from Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Rob Kosman's first or only planer recommendation is number 5½ I would also buy 5 ½ for myself, so I recommend you any on the bedrock system (lie Nielsen, Clifton, Dicktum or Wood river)
Ansonsten top Arbeit.
when you first assembled the dove tails they looked a bit loose but the final product is super tight. is it the glue that expands the joint? final result is very impressive.
Love the sound of a sharp plane! That wood looks like some kind of mahogany. Did you make the wood squares and dovetail marker? Another lovely, simple piece!

When the oil hits that end grain 👌

Bro, this is f*ing beautiful!
I celebrated @ 1:54 🙌 ...okay lemme go finish watching
I appreciate the lack of a low-angle plane in this video
What are those used for?

Nice! It always looks so dangerous when left-handed people work with sharp tools - even if I'm left-handed myself. Greetings from Norway.
😂

Looks amazing! The wood looks like sapele.
Fantastic job! Thanks for posting!I. I wish that I was 1/2 as good
Thank you so much🤗

Update.. how’d it come out?
Beautiful piece, nice video and terrific craftsmanship. What an enjoyable experience to watch your videos.
Beautiful work. It looks like Honduran Mahogany.
Your work is a celebration of wood.
Holy moly! If you wanted to go viral you could do some stuff where you just cut back and forth between your chisel time and my chisel time. And I’d say keep the music about the same :)))
Great Skill, beautiful traditional wood working example.
Thank you so much 😊
Beautiful! A pleasure to watch!

Is that a dovetailed dovetail guide?… And why do I find that idea oddly adorable?
left handed bro! love the dovetails.
What a beautiful piece of art. When you put the Tung oil on and the keys came out... wow.

Better than netflix :p a little finesse in this world of bullies.

Well done sir
Amazing watching you cut such perfect dovetails with the big rip teeth on that ryoba! Awesome 🤩
Excelente.
Either Sapele or Mahogany. Mahogany is slightly lighter in color and in video looks to be that way. Great dovetails!
Thank you so much 😊 May be sapele!!)
So refreshing to see such craftsmanship using Hand tools and hard wood, so much respect.
Un plaisir à regarder... merci
Incredible craftsmanship, keep up the incredible work

They are both of the same family
Meliceae and Sapele is often used as replacement/sold as African Mahogany.
Everything about this video is excellent. This too me represents what woodworking is all about.
Pure woodporn 🎉
nice job
I love watch people who take pride in their work! You, sir are a Master!
Sick!!
Rob Cosman's dovetail trick!
Beautiful as usual. I really love your work dude.
Sehr schön
Nicelly done. Piece of art. Um brinquedinho bonito que saiu daí.
Man, that is awesome! Those dovetails are perfect.

Beautiful work. I LOVE how the dovetails popped with the finish. Great video work as well. Thank you.
Beautiful!!
veramente un bellissimo lavoro bel video
Absolutely gorgeous.
Nice job 👏🏻
Good job :)
Small question. What do you rub your plane with, the small pot?
And love your movies btw, hope you make many more of them .
Thank you! In a jar there is fabric soaked in camellia oil
Incredible work again. How often do you have to sharpen your plane blade?
Ansonsten top Arbeit.
Do you have a video explaining the finish system you used? It looks amazing!
Fantástico!
Wow! ❤
Wow!!!
😮sensacional., uma obra de arte. Parabéns pelo trabalho.

The wood that this is made of is Sapele, which is often used as a Substitute for mahogany
Thank you so much🤗Yep, did it myself😎
Thank you! I thought so, but it seemed a little lighter
@@gr_woodworking There is a blond mahogany. Thought it might be sapele because of the grain but it does seem too light.
