  • The second half of the Kiryu saga is here as I cover the 27th movie in the Godzilla franchise.
    BTW, Mothra is superb, NOT superfluous. :-)

    This film really made me love Kiryu more.
    Oddly fans assume Godzilla died in this film when it’s confirmed he lives. I mean Kiryu just sank himself into the Japan trench. But Godzilla lives that deep and breaths underwater. Plus Godzilla would just break free eventually. I mean several sources agree on this.

    • @TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork

      Yeah, I'm not sure where the death idea came from. I would still love to see another movie set in this universe.

      Kaiju no Kami The claim because of the wound Kiryu left on him. But he would just heal. I mean I understand that this incarnation of Godzilla doesn’t possess the same level of regeneration as the Heisei and other incarnations of Godzilla do. Cuz they can heal/regen within seconds or instantaneously. But this one was able to heal that massive chest wound from the previous film so I think he will be fine. Plus they were gonna make a third film to take after it as they wanted a trilogy. But it got cancelled.

    This movie while not as perfect as the previous movie like with it's characters.
    This movie is still great with the effects and music. While also being a direct fallow up to the previous movie.
    And what's cool is that I watched this movie every night back in 2009 when it was still on Netflix and was among the earliest Godzilla movies that I watched when I was 8.
    And even to this day it's in my top 5 and is very close to the previous movie.

    I wonder if the disappearance of the main characters from the first movie could of been down to something as simple as scheduling conflicts but a throw away line about them would of been nice. I also wonder if the weak B-Story is a result of it being a sequel and the loss of the main characters. I think the scene when our hero is confront by the officials to provide an explanation was so brightly back lit not to make them look god like but to turn them into faceless bureaucrats completely anonymous and unconnected to real people. Either way this movie cooks along looks great and fights are dynamic and well staged.

    Fuck yes!!!! Yes, yes, yes, yes, and four more 'yes.' Nailed it. I kinda hate how much I enjoy this one. I think in it's awkward shallow plot, it actually hits the notes 'Final War,' wanted to. It pays careful homage to, not just the 'Godzilla,' legacy, but the larger Toho universe with it's heavy reference to 'Mothra.' The weird re-hashed plot details (two Mothra larva, cocoon Goji, etc.,) feels deliberate instead of confused. And the effects and cinematography might be the pinnacle of the whole Japanese franchise. I adore it. I actually showed it to my room mates in college, without introducing the first film in this mini-series, and they loved it. It feels like a weird 'best-of,' remix, but the sloppy mixing actually adds to the 'fun,' factor here. My next review is gonna be the original 'Mothra,' 61, so I also deeply appreciated your memorial at the top. Def one of my fav reviews you've put out. My current fav? I might lean into 'Biollante,' here, just cause I love that film, and your 'Smooth Criminal v Secret Agent Man,' bit gets me outta my seat laughing. Although the 'Archer,' reference into the 'Osbornes,' was spot on!! You can't review this film without making meta-commentary on redundancy.

      The Kaijuologist
      I had a lot of fun with this review, which was great because I struggled to think up the jokes when I was watching the movie itself. It wasn't until I was editing it together that the hamster finally started to turn on what I should do with it.
      The Biollante review I did is probably still my favorite as well though, well, at least until I do Final Wars. I have been planning my Final Wars review for nearly two years now, so it hopefully end up being my best work. We'll see though as a lot can still go wrong. :-p
      I love this movie a lot, but I can not hide the fact that is rehashes the movies of the past. It does it so well though that it doe not feel forced, but I can still see why people say they don't like the movie because of it.
      Funny though about my Koizomi tribute. The music I used was free but the artist has now placed a claim on my video to seize any monetization of this video I may get (which is none though). How the hell does that work? I don't think you can place a claim to make money off something that you released for free.

    • @thekaijuologist5642
      @thekaijuologist5642 9 лет назад

      The youtube 'copyright,' shit is nuts. My trailer for the 'reboot trilogy,' is apparently banned from a number of country's, and it took about 20 views till I was emailed about monetization....all of which doesn't come close to applying to what I wanted to do. Fuck it. Can't wait for your 'Final Wars,' review.

    • @TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork
      @TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork  9 лет назад

      The Kaijuologist
      For the most part, I've learned that companies won't put a claim in unless you have more than 30 seconds of continuous music/video/audio playing. I just don't get how something that was free to the public can suddenly collect on any monetization from a video for being 1 second longer. If I ever put my videos on to collect ad revenue, I will definitely be fighting that. But then, by that time, this review probably won't have enough views to even worry about it.
      Anyway, I have watched FW, so this weekend I am going to start getting my script together along with what jokes I want to use for it. I've been waiting a long time to review this movie, so I am excited it is finally here as FW is the movie that made me want to do these reviews. I hope to have it out by Wed, but I don't want to rush it as I want it to be perfect.
