Just got the amp yesterday. The amp itself is actually really good by itself. But I am curious about what the tone studio has to offer & been having problems getting it.
The whole installation is just bloody awful to me. It's like nothing works properly, too much things to deal with here and there. Too many ins and outs. I've been really angry at the amp for a long time as well. Amp doesn't sound good to me either.
Dear Boss: This is WAY too complicated for the average user. Please find a way to make this a more user friendly product.
I've been messing with mine for 3 frickin hours and I can't get it to go. My Line6 PodGO to 25 seconds to load and be up and running. I've been using Photoshop & Lightroom for 10-15 years each & THOSE are less complicated. I'm actually ready to return this product as It shouldn't be this damn difficult. What waste of time.

You didnt show jack about how to install the driver if your computer doesnt do it automatically. Just because your computer did, the whole point of this video is to tell us how if ours didnt, right?

Yeah, I'm having trouble finding the right driver version from the website - version 1.2 or 1.02 for the Katana II 50 - The website only shows 1.0 available (as far as I can tell - I'm definitely no tech wiz but any help here would be appreciated). Thanks
I had the same issue but I restarted my PC and once it was on i opened the task manager and close all other applicants as possible and open the device manager as he did and plugged the USB while checking if it would connect and it worked

Like most people here, I have similar complaints, with SY 300 tone studio... driver not installing. Just let us have the drivers to install manually, and not leave us stuck in limbo hoping for the automatic install to happen. Also noticed none of the complaints got any replies, great support guys!

ryan walker Yep. The next day I went through my Windows updates and some hadn’t been applied in my laptop. So uninstalled the Katana Driver and boss tone studio first, then made sure all my windows updates were sorted, then reinstalled the driver and tone studio. Then with the new windows update you have to make sure to check and change the MIC PRIVACY settings if necessary and set to ALLOW APPS TO ACCESS YOUR MICROPHONE: ON. Easy fix guys!!.....happend to me too.. when downloading the software make sure its for the mk 2 model. If its not , then it will give u the failure to connect message.hope that helps!
Have tried several times to get this to work with no luck. It says in my settings that it is there but than I can not get it to do anything else, it does not go to any of the places that you show. Any help from anyone would be great
Thank you for this video. It helped a lot. Love my new Boss Katana 50 Mk II. Before this all I ever owned was an old Peavey Backstage Plus amp so I guess I'm easy to impress, but it's all I need for practicing at home and jamming with some friends. I'm not a professional otherwise I would have bought the 100 watt version.
I've been playing, playing shows (not so much these days) & recording for over 25 years. I've had several amps, from Crate, Peavey, Fender, Marshall, Orange...& This is right up there with the best of them. It's surprisingly a really good amp on it's own. But I would still really like to check out the tone studio & see what it has to offer. But it's so ridiculous trying to get the tone studio. I'm almost to the point of just giving up, because like I said, it is a really good amp on it's own. But it shouldn't be this hard to download the tone studio. This is ridiculous.

My new boss katana booster light is getting on if i turn reverb at 12 or the treble but the booster knob cant off the green light. On the other hand it is not taking factory reset though I tried to do many times. Nothing happens as told in videos. What to do?
Well I have a Katana boss 50 and when I try to install the studio, I click it a pop-up window appears says "Installing BOSS TONE STUDIO for KATANA", then it loads the bar of the installation, it closes, and nothing else. Please help me with this.
P.S. I have already installed the drivers correctly, extracted the files from the zip folder of the studio.
What does it mean if it says please select external MIDI/AUDIO device connection please turn unit from slave mode to normal settings?
What is the minimum PC configuration for windows to run Tone sudio? Can it be operated by a Tablet as well as a PC?

How do I download and install the driver for Tone Studio. I don't have an internet connection, where my amplifier is but I have USB memory stick. Can I download the drivers on the machine I am on now, then copy to my USB stick, then install on my own Windows 10 PC?
for those still trying to get the Drivers needed to set the Katana up on Windows 10. You might have to run a few Windows Updates manually and run the Diagnostic Tool to remind Windows to make the update.

Trying to get this to function has been an absolute nightmare for me. Emails form support that lead me to the same place “device not detected”. It was super simple for the ME80. I gave up on it. Probably gonna sell it. What’s the sense of having something that can’t be used to it’s fullest capability especially when the system provided is ridiculously faulty.
The 'Wrong Device' issue is coming up a lot on online forums and creating a negative impression for the Katana Tone Studio. It's an expensive piece of gear and so some deeper technical support addressing this issue would be massively appreciated!!!

So what do you do if windows doesn't see the katana? It doesn't read that a usb is plugged in and gives an error.
When I do that to problems it says I’m using the older version even after it said new version then another problem after I download it I get another message that says your not connected to the amp when I am , it’s got gremlins in there

I`ve spent 3 days trying to connect the Boss Tone Studio to both Mac and Pc, but without success. The computer tells me that the driver and software have been successfully installed and that I may connect, but when I try, the screen shows:" Wrong device." I`m using the right USB cable(printer type), and I`ve been following all steps both for pc and for Mac, but to no avail. Why does the software have to be so difficult to use??
I had the drivers up and running on windows 10 but recently upgraded to windows 11 and now the drivers don't download when I connect it to my pc. I can't find an online download file for the drivers, anyone got the same issue?

Hi 'Product support'. I am a very computer savvy individual and I cannot get your software to work. As with everyone else, I made sure that I have the latest windows 10 update and I allowed microphone access to apps and I still get the 'katana connection error'. Very frustrating. Got it working! I got it working and i thought I would share my issue to help the next poor sap. Make sure you are using the right version of Tone studio. I made sure to allow apps to use the microphone, I checked the firmware version to make sure it was the latest, I tried a different computer, I tried a different USB cable. I also pulled some hair out and cursed...a lot. I googled katana 50 tone studio and the link that popped up was indeed that.....the base version. I thought that tone studio was the same for all versions and I didn't realize that there was a specific MKII version. It seems so obvious now but I have read a crap ton of threads on different sites with people spending hours up to weeks trying to get it to work who have tried all the same steps that I did.
Could you please elaborate on that I’m currently loosing my shit on trying to get this damn thing to work
@@RankDuchess The Mistake that I made was I assumed that the software package for Tone Studio was the same for each amp. I downloaded the 'Boss Katana 50 Tone Studio' and it didn't work. The fix was that I downloaded the software package that specifically said it was for MKII. Just look for the latest version and make damn sure you select the specific software package for the EXACT amp that you are using. The software doesn't tell you that you are trying to connect to a different amp than the software package that you downloaded. A simple message saying 'You are trying to connect the MKII version amp to MKI software, dumbass.' would have been nice.

Yo when i tried to install the new 4.0 version, it said i needed adobe air in order to launch it. So i then tried to install the old 2.01 version, but that didnt work either since its too old and it cant find my amp to connect to. Someone please help, like why does it have to be so damn hard

What to do when your download doesnt start automatically and the boss support dont give access to the driver folder and help about this? In the devices manager option the driver "cant be downloaded". Very disappointed.

ok so i have updated the firmware on the amp the booster is is green mod and fx are dark reverb is red so i have the right firm ware on the amp.
my mic is selected to allow all app to use the mic i get sound from amp to show up on mic and sound plays through the amp on secondary from the computer.
my midi is selcted katana in and out . but i still get the error msg in studio saying “Connection Failure, select MIDI/Audio device connection.

For anyone using a USB-hub. My problem was caused by using one. Tried everything. After uninstalling the driver I wasn't even able to re-install it because windows did no recognize the device. Plugged the USB cable from the Katana directly into the computer instead of via a hub. And my problem was solved!

Fine, but when I download and install the Tone Studio for use with my brand new Katana 100w 2x12 it tells me "You are using an older version of Katana MkII. Update to the latest version". I click the download button which takes me to download exactly the same zip file I downloaded and installed before!!!!! It is dated April 2021. So where is the 'new' one?

I've recently switched to using my Andertons 50th Anniversary Special Marshall CSJTM 145 and cab, bog standard simple controls, no messing about! I daren't take it out of the house though, their worth over £1,500 now, so I'm going to try again with the Katana... 🙄
Managed to install all drivers properly, including latest software versions... now I can't find the Tone Studio ANYWHERE. The links on boss website comeback as missing page 404, and I can't find a file download anywhere else online...

Just noticed the Tone Studio version your downloading says Ver.1.0.2 for Windows. However only Ver.1.0.0 for Windows is available on the Boss website? I can’t get the amp to connect to tone studio

@@trenthickey4483 Good. It turns out that the 'latest version' actually meant 'the Katana firmware' (you have to be able to read programmers' minds these days...) The latest version of BTS will only talk to the latest Katana firmware, and vice versa. Or, you can have the previous versions of each and they will talk ok! I only got the amp yesterday so I assumed it would have the latest firmware, which BOSS told me was in amps shipped from May 2021. I can only assume the supply chain to my UK retailer is quite long so I received one with old firmware. I'm now all up and running, but what a palaver! 🤦♂️

After wasting 2 hours of trying to set this up on my new (Win11) laptop, I gave up and just went back to my PC (Win10), which thankfully works. This is far too frustrating to set up, and I say this as a professional IT worker.
Your software is faulty on Windows 11 and that is something your company should prioritize fixing.

this did not work for me, I got an error message something about adobe air whatever that is.
My problem was the driver wasn't being downloaded automatically because I was using a wifi on "metered connection" status (sharing wifi from my phone). I changed it and went to devices and printers, right clicked on the katana icon and then installed the fucking driver. It works fine now.
The download of the Tone Studio has been easy! Just a printer cable and a "click" on ✅windows (for me).
Would also be cool to know what to do if there is no USB jack on the amp. All I see is an optical jack

I took this rrreal slow, but I was able to finally get Tone Studio installed. You would've thought I was dismantling a bomb, hahahaha. But yes, thank you.
One really needs some luck and listen very well and actually following through. EveN if it means deleting everything and starting again. Austin made it seem so easy with a Windows install. I successfully connected the Katana-50 on Windows 10 However only the off-line portion of the application. If I'm understand I now need to retry to update the drivers for the Amplifier. Flashing lights etc. Actually I also upgraded my buddies MacBook Pro fronm Catalina 10 to the most up-to-date software version Sonoma 14.3.1 I read on the Boss Product compatibility page they recommended
Users stick with macOS Ventura. 🤭 Not really loving that though. Still I'm getting familiar with the macOS. When I finish, I'm looking forward to taking my experiences with Windows and MacBook and attempt to connect with a Linux system with the use of WINE. If I connect successfully on Linux I believe that should be that except for a few hand held devices. 🤔 Anyway keeping on keeping on. 🤘

Amp is wonderful, had it about a month, just getting the software today. No auto setup for me.
Did this twice, uninstall and reinstalled the latest software to get an error message "Using Old Software Version", it doesn't work and I have a serious regret about spending £400 on an amp with no software

Appreciate the video but I don't see Katana under Bluetooth and Other Devices. What if my Windows 10 Computer does not show the Katana under Audio in "Bluetooth and Other Devices"???
The Katana shows up under Portable Devices and I was able to update my firmware to 4.0 successfully.
For more context, the issue I am having is Boss Tone Studio says "Device Not Found"
LOL I just figured this out. I was holding CH.1 and Panel buttons when turning on my amp and connecting it to the computer. This is how you update the firmware and connect Katana as a physical drive. By simply powering on the Katana normally and plugging it into my PC's USB port, the drivers installed and Boss Tone Studio no longer says "Device Not Found!" YESSSSSS!

My katana driver cannot install
I’m not seeing the same thing he sees in his download folder. This isn’t working
Being older and needing to replace my amp after 25 years. I stayed away from Line 6 due to downloading damn firmware updates and all the button pushing to find what you want. Katana Artist mk2 more simple with the panel but there are firmware updates again. These videos that “show you”, they click around too fast. They show the tone studio but how the hell do individual tones get loaded on the computer. I have been told I don’t have to do firmware updates or the Tone Studio thing. Just play it out of the box. If I click something wrong on the computer I know Katana won’t work when I’m done. I’ve learned, leave well enough alone. After all, this Artist Mk2 has way more on the panel out of the box than amps we bought years ago. Out of the box it is.

I cannot understand how a comany like Boss cant provide a simple download platform. Im finding it really stressfull and to be honest its the same with all the digital guitar modelling manufacturers. There service is shit and its a continual grind trying to just getting stuff to work properly. thinking seriously about going back to tube and pedals. I hope your reading this BOSS
I agree. I have not purchased my Artist Mk2 yet. Me and computers don’t play well together sometimes. Being that I am technologically challenged, I have been told by Sweet Water as well as Guitar Center that the amp will work just fine without doing any firmware updates. Just play it out of the box. This amp has way more going on, on the panel than amps we bought 30 years ago. I’m seeing too many issues with downloading and having everything be just fine. I’ll screw it up. I’m leaving well enough alone. Out of the box it is!

I tried absolutely everything and my MKII 50 just will not work with tone studio. I installed, uninistalled etc etc, nothing worked. Not impressed BOSS, especially the inability to get any customer service help from BOSS. At least my Mk1 worked perfectly. Anyone want to buy a very big desk weight?

So, I get this cool Katana MK 2 amp. I hear that i can plug it into a computer and get access to a lot more effects. I go out, buy the newest computer with updated everything. Come back home and plug it into my brand new Chromebook and nothing. Ive done just about everything to get a single answer about wtf? Its not compatible i suppose. Burn! in my face. Sucks.

Boss should make one app for Apple and android simple easy to use and be able to upload and download everything from that nice easy clean the process is a headache don’t get me wrong it’s awesome you can get some great tones but man boss really should make this user friendly cause the average person specially if they don’t use computers often and do everything from phones it’s really difficult to learn!
