    Your video style and format reminds me a lot of The Salt Factory in all the right ways. I've always wanted to try out Arx Fatalis but never did because of my unfamiliarity with the UI. Agree with the other comment, getting Salt Factory vibes, mixed with Grimbeard perhaps? You got great potential, keep it up. I agree with the other comment about the rough edges. Especially around your audio, seems a bit all over the place across the video. But you'll get there with time.

    It's curious that you mentioned "Adventure game DNA". A lot of old school RPGs were like this.
    Killing monsters as main "attraction", main game loop is sign of modern RPG.
    If you need recommendation Heuristic Park's Wizards&Warriors (2000).
    Word of advice if you'll decided to try it: if you stuck in geometry - don't panic. What can't be solved by buttons, can work via on-screen controls.

  • @SteveAkaDarktimes

    funny thing about magic. its OP because the damage is Dice based. Fireball does 1d6 x Lvl damage. Spell level is every 10 skillpoints in casting (all skills only improve at even 10s!). so a high level caster does 10d6 damage with a fireball. with 3 stored up you can do 30d6 damage in less than 3 seconds.
    Melee is FLAT. a sword does like 6 damage, you get a whopping +1 damage for every 10 points in close combat skill (and 2% crit chance), and at most +3-4 damage from strength. so a maxed out warrior with 20 strength, with a Mithril balde etc does 10+5+10=25 damage for every FULLY charged attack. 10d6 fireball does on average 35 damage from range.

    • @QuestionablyExplained
      @QuestionablyExplained  5 месяцев назад

      I knew that the skills improved at every 10 points, but I didn't know about the dice roll for magic. That's really neat.

    41:50 - This. This drives me *insane.* KotOR let you hack a terminal and get the entire map, with Ubisoft games its’ just a matter of accessing vantage points (save Far Cry 5), but Arx drives me crazy with the lack of ability to 100% the map as well.

    this looks like it's making numbers, so your channel might be on the verge of blowing up, congrats. a few points, if you don't mind: you could've elaborated more on the magic system, how you can discover new spells that aren't documented in in-game documents by experimenting with the symbols, reversing formulas and such. and on the immersive sim aspects of the game, like how dough thrown near a fire is baked into bread. also, i'd drop the "i have great trouble pronouncing these fantasy names." orbiplanax and acerbius are on the easier side of fantasy names. if you can say acerbic, you can say acerbius. it feels forced and the joke fell flat for me.

    • @QuestionablyExplained
      @QuestionablyExplained  5 месяцев назад

      Funny thing is that the bread thing was one of the first things I wrote down when I decided to do the video, I had a bit about it but completely forgot to add it to the final script. I could have spoken more on the magic, You're right. I was looking into it after I beat the game. The logic the runes follow is really cool. It's a shame the game itself doesn't explore more into it.

      Without checking whether I remember correctly, it seems to me like most Arx retrospectives forget to emphasize how immersive the cooking and crafting is.
      It's the one thing that enhances the atmosphere and immersion so efficiently. Crouch-sitting at a fireplace, listening to the ambience and the sound of meat/fish/bread sizzling on the fire.

  • @yuzip
    @yuzip 4 месяца назад +1

    There is sort inventory button, when u open inventory you can notice it on the right side between mana bar and journal icon, u press it twice and it sorts it.
    From the way you played this game it just felt like u had a mindblock that prevented you from understanding and utilizing game mechanics to the full extent and your experience doesn't do game justice, it's build in a way that you can't maximize all your skills, just like SS2 it encourages multiple playthroughs, since you brushed through main quest unenthusiastically, without talking about exploration, few existing side quests or experience with different builds it didn't create a good picture for any viewer interested to try the game themselves and it's a shame.

    • @QuestionablyExplained
      @QuestionablyExplained  4 месяца назад

      A few people have brought up the inventory sort button, and I wish I knew about it while I was making the video.
      For the second part of your comment, I wouldn't say that I just brushed through the story without exploring. I put about 20 hours into the game for the video and ended up doing a fair bit of the side content. I try to focus more on the main story for the videos though. In hindsight, I will agree that I could have spoken more on player agency and how the player can use the various skills to interact with the game world. Thank you for the comment.
