One thing I'd like to observe with electric kettle, at least here where I am, is that plastic deteriorates. I've had plastic smell enter my water before. Maybe some less durable part of the kettle deteriorates after many uses (I got a cheap one and used it daily).
Oh no! Yes I would think that the water shouldn't be in contact with the plastic part of the kettle as this would interfere with the taste, especially when the water gets hot
