A guy told a story here on RUclips about destroying a beaver dam. He had taken it down twice, trying to get the beavers to move away. The third time he walked down the path to the creek, the beavers had built a dam across the path.

The reason why sounds of rain or running faucets causes Nibby to go into dam-building mode is because that's the biological 'trigger', if you will. The sound alone of running water drives beavers to construct dams. Even if it's an electronic speaker just playing the sound of running water, beavers will cover it with sticks and mud until the sound is suppressed enough.

It's not a question of age - beavers can be very aggressive in the wild regardless of gender or age, especially underwater.

Somewhat like the pre programmed shape that cats respond to when they see a cucumber and jump like they just grabbed a live electrical wire.

They make dams which last awhile and ponds form, when the dams give way they leave the soil enriched with nutrients . While the dams hold the water back aquatic life flourishes all kinds of species reproduce in larger numbers, it’s an amazing cycle that we humans have interfered with and buggered up royally.
