The reason it's 300 bucks is because it has a GPU unlike every other e-ink device. The GPU makes it faster as you may have noticed. Yes, there's ghosting but that can be refreshed and it's gone. But e-ink devices can be frustrating and this device takes the frustration away. That comes at the cost of battery but it's not like you have to charge the decide daily. If you just use it to read daily then it will last you 3 weeks to a month easily.
There is no way it runs for months without needing to recharge if you use it for saying 1 hour a day... It runs on Android, which will need power just sitting idle unused!

I totally understand your annoyance about the comments on TikTok. Lots of people on there are just so annoying. They like to keep asking the same questions, as if they couldn’t google it for themselves and they also put you down for something that you enjoy using/doing. That aside, i love the Boox Palma and would like to get one myself but i don’t know if i can justify the price. I’m not supposed to have my phone at work but I am allowed to use an e-reader. it’s discouraged but technically allowed so I love the idea of it being a PHONE SIZED e-reader without being a phone.

Kindle just seems to continuously be getting bigger instead of smaller (like increasing the size of the paperwhite, and replacing the oasis with the scribe). I finally bit the bullet and ordered this mostly because of the capability to download the kindle app and keep my library

Yeahhhh TikTok is not it when a video goes viral. I had a video go viral about a study timer and was asked why I didn’t just use my phone 💀💀 that’s literally just the nature of TikTok and I hate it lol I have a Boox Page which is like the oasis but from the same company as the Palma. I think the Boox devices fill in so many gaps that the kindle has. I hate that kindles don’t support whispersync!! I currently have a paperwhite signature, the kindle scribe, and ofc the Boox page. I’m a different type of reader tho. I do 89% of my reading in bed so I love the scribe for that! I’m going to watch your TikTok right now 🤣🫶🏾
Thanks for making this! My Boox Palma arrives tomorrow and I can’t wait. Just a couple things to add… I ordered from the official Boox store and my Palma shipped from California. It is taking about 6 days to get here via UPS Ground. I was a little disappointed in that speed as shipping wasn’t free. I don’t know if it’s the norm, but when I bought mine from the Boox store, I will also got a free case. Again, not sure if that’s the norm or just a special holiday bonus.
A few months ago I got the Boox Poke 5, it's the 6inch one, slightly smaller than the Kindle Paperwhite. I love it. Although I'm now slightly regretting not jumping for the Palma because yours looks so cute haha. And yes, re the TT hate. I avoid that app for a reason. I also got tired of reading webtoons and light novels on my phone/tablet because the bluelight is so uncomfortable for late night reading or long reading sprints. I feel a little bad because my boyfriend bought me an Oasis a few years ago and I barely use it anymore since getting my Boox 😅

Wanted to post an update for those who find themselves in this video for Palma. She was SPOT on for everything she said during this video. The battery life is AMAZING, i have only charged it twice since getting it, but with HOURS of reading and tweaking my Palma for days, i only get down to 70. It hasnt dropped below that since getting it. The response time is fantastic. i have all my ebooks converted to EPUB, and the best reader i have found is ReadEra, and i use the HomeSquare Launcher for my default launcher. Yes, there is ALOT of ghosting, but with the refresh button on the side, it instantly goes away. And readera has free TTS reading, and you can change the voice output even on the free version(which i have). I never would have discovered this without readwithalyssa. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for making the content about the BOOX Palma. I literally would have never gotten it if you didn't make this video. They need to sponsor you!
I'm a lifelong Techie (and own almost every Kindle ever made, including the first one). It took me a while to get an Oasis since they cost too much when they first came out, but a few months ago they had refurbed ones on Woot (which is owned by Amazon) so I was finally able to get one at a sensible price. I do like watching tech reviews but I also like watching 'everyday person' unboxing/reviews to get an average user perspective on devices I'm interested in. I kept seeing e-ink tablets but they were either too big, too costly, too specialized (like the huge $1000 Sony one you could only use for writing on) or ran some oddball OS you couldn't really do anything with (or only displayed Chinese or only worked with a Chinese bookstore). The Palma looks like an awesome idea since it's just the right size to hold in one hand and put in a pocket and actually runs Android and actually has the Google Play Store. By the way, you CAN get the Palma on Amazon; I have it saved on one of my Lists right now.

I'm actually interested in something like this for when we travel / cruise. I don't always like to carry my phone with me on ships. I'm curious as I've not seen anything, and maybe you'll know: Can this be used to play music / podcasts (if stored locally) If so, that would be awesome. Being able to actually SEE the screen of a device in bright sunlight is the biggest perk of an e-ink screen, PLUS this one has the lighted screen too.

Have you tried using the built in NeoReader app for reading epubs? I have an older Onyx Boox Nova 3C and the NeoReader works really well for books I buy elsewhere that have epubs for download. Thank you for sharing your experience with the Palma as a Kindle fan.

@ReadwithAlyssa I wanted to give you a quick warning about the Water repellent aspect. If your Palma get fully submerged in water, it will get water damage. The repellent means that it safe from spills and splashes. I wouldn’t take in the bathtub if I were you.

I'm running into the same issue with my Oasis. I love it, but the battery life has never been good. Ever since I heard about the Boox Palma, I've had my eye on it because I prefer reading on something the size of my phone, but I haaaaate the blue light. Add in Android 11 and it's the perfect solution.
What does the manga look like on it? I already have a kindle paperwhite signature, is this worth getting as I don’t know if you can use kindle for manga?

Thanks for the review. It was very useful for me. I have an Onyx Boox Nova for almost 3 years and use it daily, but together with the cover it's quite heavy, so I was thinking about getting this one. I'm not interested in using it as a phone so I don't care about a SIM card slot. But for people who want to use at least a messenger app, Telegram works very well on it. I am using it for storing or transferring my files among devices and it work like on any other phone or tablet.

Ive been watching review and weirdly, none of them really focus or talk much about actually reading on it. They're showing how they're installing Reddit, or playing games on it, etc. I guess the markets mostly been e-paper enthusiasts, and not e-reader enthusiasts

I'm running into the same issue with my Oasis. I love it, but the battery life has never been good. Ever since I heard about the Boox Palma, I've had my eye on it because I prefer reading on something the size of my phone, but I haaaaate the blue light. Add in Android 11 and it's the perfect solution.

It’s just like a phone. You select the photo from your photo gallery and then select “set as wallpaper” “set as screensaver”

I can’t figure it out :( do I just need to delete the default apps that came with the device so my new apps move to page 1? I hope that makes sense

Thanks for the review. It was very useful for me. I have an Onyx Boox Nova for almost 3 years and use it daily, but together with the cover it's quite heavy, so I was thinking about getting this one.
I'm not interested in using it as a phone so I don't care about a SIM card slot. But for people who want to use at least a messenger app, Telegram works very well on it. I am using it for storing or transferring my files among devices and it work like on any other phone or tablet.
