Not something that I will buy at this point, but I will keep an eye out for future models as I’m used to reading on my phone and I read accross different platforms, so this would be a good alternative to reduce eye strain and not depleting my phone battery throughout the day. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us 😊

They have different sizes. I’ve been, looking at the 7 inch to take out with me. I currently have a kindle scribe but it’s too big for on the go.

@@CiclistaCaro e-readers use 1 hertz on their screens so it reduces eye strain way more than using a device with amoled screen or using a dark background. They're made to imitate the experience of reading a physical book with less blue light from our phones/tablets and reduce eye strain so you could read longer. But if you're looking at e-readers that has boox features (e-readers that has apps that aren't related to books) then you're fo sure should just opt out of it and just use your everyday phone.
f.y.i. I have an 11th gen and 8th gen kindle but I prefer the 8th gen more since it uses no blue light, it does not mess with my sleeping habits. New e-readers today like this boox uses brightness so you can read in the dark but old e-readers like my 8th gen kindle used contrast and you have to use it with a light on. Also I heard Boox uses more than 1 hertz on their e-readers than other known brands like kindle and kobo

I recently upgraded from a Kindle Oasis to the Boox Page. I actually really like having the android ecosystem for reading because I can access all of my book apps on the same device without dealing with the eyestrain I get when trying to read in the non kindle apps on my phone. I've had my device almost a month now and no complaints whatsoever. Battery life far exceeds what I was getting with my oasis and I feel it's more customizable to meet my needs. My favorite setting is that you can set the device to fully power off if not in use. I have mine set to power off after 30 minutes of no use so it's not slowly draining the battery when I am not using it.
I am definitly going to pick up the Palma also, so I can have something with me all of the time. I love the idea of being able to have something small for on the go.

I’ve had my Palma for a month now and I’m in love. Surprisingly, this is my go to reader (over my 6.8 PW) for reading in bed before sleep because of its light weight, the ease of holding it and the automatic warm light. I get lost in my book just as easily with the same font size I normally use. I enjoy the convenient page turn buttons when I read from Google books and Libby apps. It doesn’t work Kindle books so I have to tap the screen in that app. With the long battery life, I didn’t bother to pack the charging cord on weekend getaway where I read 2 books. With its small size, I could truly tuck it in my pocket and read comfortably anywhere.
Escaping the Amazon ecosystem is freedom! I don’t think we realize how much Amazon subsidizes the price of the Kindles but then we are trapped. I happily read Reddit and news articles from The Guardian on the crisp and “easy on the eyes” e ink on my little but powerful BOOX Palma.
Edited to add: The apps, Notation and Readwise, work perfectly on BOOX readers and keeps all of your notes and highlights organized and readily accessible.

The big benefit is that the screen is easier to read as an e-ink screen, especially in in low-light and strong sunlight (obviously for different reasons). If it's a concern, it also helps conserve phone battery.

I'm obsessed with my Palma and prefer it to my Kindle Oasis and Nook Glowlight 4. I love being able to read from different sources! But I do have very small hands and prefer page turning buttons on a reading device. I find it easy to snuggle in bed with it, but I love its portability so much!

Oh man, I too have very small hands and vastly prefer ereaders with dedicated page turn buttons, does the Palma have that or is it simply less necessary because of how small it is?
After almost 10 years I’m looking to replace my kindle voyage and I’m so annoyed at Amazon for discontinuing all their normal ereaders with page turn buttons, but maybe it’ll push me to find something better.

@vashtilives2469 the palma has volume up and down buttons that can be used as page turning buttons on Kindle app or Nook app, which are the apps I mainly use for reading. It works really well so far and I love reading on it. You can also set the buttons to scroll up and down.

From what I gather after watching lots of reviews on YT, Boox Palma does not fall completely in the E-reader category. To me I like it with the ability to use different apps option. I personally don't use a E-reader or Kindle. I use Lybby occasionally. I just placed my order to buy a Palma as I see myself reading news articles, research reports, novels I can access thru websites (not Kindle), and Webtoon/Manga/Manhwa on the Palma which I do with my cell phone. But the issue I was having with using my phone for those activities is I get high eye pressure from looking at the small LED screen too long. In addition, I also look at computer straight 8 hours a day working. so I really like the option I can use the Palma like my phone but being easy on my eyes. That's the reason why I bought it, I'm excited to try it out once it arrives!

I'm so in love with my Boox Palma. I recently purchased a flip phone and this is the perfect companion since I don't have a smartphone. Having android makes this a game changer for me. I use the kindle app, Spotify and the notes app the most but I also use language learning apps on this! I also read wayyyy more often because since I have this is in my purse all the time so I read whenever I have a spare moment. This is also super light weight and easy to read one handed or in bed. I think for my use case its definitely worth the price!

    Awesome video!
I received my Palma two days ago. I love using it as a compact e-reader alternative to my Kobo and it even keeps the two devices in sync, so I can pick up where I left off on either, as long as they're both connected to wifi. Also, I've been using it as a note taking and novel drafting tool, in combination with my Nuphy75 low-profile mechanical keyboard and in this usecase this device also shines! I had first considered buying a Freewrite e-ink device, but while their keyboards are great, I really hated the slow update on the e-ink screen the Freewrite devices use. No such problem with the Palma! I use Obsidian for drafting, which responds lightning fast when paired with the Nuphy keyboard via Bluetooth and I can immediately pickup where I left off on my laptop, when I want to do some edits.
I will probably find 1001 more use cases for this awesome device in the coming months / years, but safe to say that this is turning out to be one of the favourite gadgets I own. Both for reading, and writing. Highly recommended!!!

I used a Kindle a while ago but didn’t like it so returned it. During Covid, my friend got me a refurbished mini iPad for my birthday and I love reading on it, but it can be heavy to throw in my bag when I’m going somewhere. I wanted something lighter and more discreet which is why I got the Palma. Literally got it today and playing around with it. I definitely can see your pros and cons - except for the phone part.

This Palma thing could seeve me well for Kindle books since it would fit in my backpack much easier. This would not replace my other devices. It would just give me another option to dive into my books. I may have to get myself one of these. It definitely looks easy to read on since it's ao easy to hold in one hand.

I'm sorry but, I had to see the video muted with subs because the music used in the transitions was too loud in comparison when you were speaking. Nice review though, pro's and con's helped a lot. 🥰

i'd buy one if they made a new version with gps, nfc and sim support. i consume media on a tablet mostly, so i really just want a high battery life work and reading phone and i feel like it'd work well for that.

I just do not get why you would need a device like this if you already have a phone. If I’m on the move and I have limited space in my bag/pockets, I’ll just read on my phone. I can’t imagine a scenario where I’d need to read on there for hours. If I know I have to read for hours I’ll bring my kindle. So really they made an in between option but I just don’t understand why

I use my phone for work and I am out and about all the time so thus would be useful for me to kind if spare the battery usage from my phone. But other than that I wouldnt purchase it because of the price alone.

Like on a train or bus or on a hike. I refuse to read on my phone, it absolutely sucks even tho i have a big one, it’s still too small, too unpleasing to look at, and no physical buttons. maybe u just like reading on normal screens more and that’s okay

???? I’m an android user but this comment doesn’t make sense. Relevancy and official support are two different things. The thing buyers want to know is how long the apps they want to use will be supported which is relevancy

You need to better edit your videos. I had my volume at a certain level when you were talking and when the music came it burst my ears, it was too loud compared to the volume of you talking. Adjust the volume, please.

I feel like these are kind of pointless when you can read on your phone. I think people get E readers so they have something bigger but not a physical book. I just feel you can read on your phone and if you’re going to get an E reader you might as well get a kindle or if you want something that size, read on your phone. That’s my opinion but no hate to anyone who likes it! 🫶🏼

Fair but the appeal is that it uses E-ink , for some reading too long on a phone screen causes eye strain and in general too much screen time is not good for our retinas and can cause migraines.. e -ink tho is safe for our eyes

Maybe if it wasn't such a drastic difference with eye strain. I used to read on my phone and get headaches daily and could only read for so long that way. My Kobo lets me read endlessly because of e-ink

Reading on a phone for a long time (or any amount of time for me) sucks if you’re used to an eink display. It’s so unpleasing to look at and phones are just slightly too small for my comfort to read on
