One of the things I enjoy about watching footage of our trains as compared to those from North America is the lack of the DAAAAAH-DAAAAAH-DA-DAAAAAAAAH horn blasts at every crossing! :) Our short honks and beeps are much more laid back. :)
@@therailrangervmtg8658 If you've travelled extensively on Amtrak as many of us have, one soon gets sick of the excessive horn blowing approaching level crossings.
It was not used as a banker. Then trains were all through power. It may have been down there on a ballast job when the company went belly up. Somebody goes down and starts it every two days I believe.
Y145 was El Zorro's and was used as a banker between Camperdown & Warrnambool. At the moment the Y is going nowhere because El Zorro have since ceased trading.
Notice how all the sidings are empty of any kind of stock. This line is lucky to still be there after government moves to close it down several years ago. In fact if our State government had its way only Bendigo Ballarat Tralagon Adelaide And Sydney would have train services
Not on any of the days that I ran it and I never heard of it happening up to the time I finished with them in late 2010. Unless they started running a single loco between Camperdown and Melbourne there would be no need. It does make good sense in terms of fuel savings and they may well have started doing it in which case I am happy to be wrong.
Just prior to Terang station would the driver always be 100% sure the switch is not to the siding? There is another video on RUclips where a switch is to the siding and a freight train rams up the rear of a stationary freight train travelling at speed . . .
Hi AT, what a great video, I enjoyed it immensely. I am an Australian cab ride enthusiast but cannot find any extended Australian cab rides. Would you please consider filming a one hour ride or two and posting it/them online? Thanks in advance.
To answer the actual question, generally whenever you see an X on a white post it means a crossing of some sort and that is when you need to sound the horn
At least the crossing just before the yard will get lights instead of just give way signs. Hope they go for booms too but highly doubt it. Would love to do a cab ride one day, great vid :)
I in a way seem surprised that trains don't honk the long, long, short, long at crossings. (That's how trains in the United States signal at crossings) What are the rules for trains in Australia to signal at railway crossings?
+Dexter1142 if there is nothing there , why hang off the horn doing that long-long-short-long deal ? if there is someone or something there , just give a short blast
Trains are meqnt to short blast before a pedestrian or road crossing maybe more where there's no signals but I see American trains give people plenty warning before accessing a crossing

Theres no limit as to how many toots the more the merrier but some crossings maybe dangerous or concealed by something, but as long as they toot at least one blast , it cant be said they didnt do it .But given the way people drive with musuc and other distractions the longer blasts to wake people up .I drive fork trucks, i hear them toot all day , i tune out to other fork trucks honking but as soon as its a train truck or car i jump and look around
started watching this and im like holy batman that trains moving, then i realised i was on 2x speed hahaha
Y145 is still there and I believe it's now for sale.
Superb video. Is there any chance of getting the whole trip from Geelong to WB?

those aussies know to respect the train tracks-those yanks cant.
Wow, I couldn’t care less about the horns in the US or Aus, it’s a horn and it serves its purpose.

They do it almost anywhere that they can dump a truck and operate a front end loader these days.
5:26 Cudgee-cudgee-coo!😆
Camperdown train drivers sing this song, hoo-hah, hoo-hah
Camperdown rail line too bloody long! Oh hoo-hah-hay!😁😁😁
Awesome Video, i love the front view plus the run into the freight yard.
Great video & have viewed it just so many times, just wished that it was longer, brings back great memories when I was on the loco at Ballarat East.
I love the horn on that loco, which class was it please?
Shunting bell ringing when approaching the container yard.

GoPro camera fixed to the outside.
1:39 Boorcan.... but I can't!😄
Victoria - and Australia - used to have such a GREAT rail system.
It's very sad to see how little is left of it.

The Y was added and removed from the freight train at Camperdown when El Zorro were running.
Excellent, thanks. They go at a fair clip, don't they?
Enjoyed at, thanks
Whats the deal with the horn? It would seem like theres no system to when you use the horn, it appears random?
To answer the actual question, generally whenever you see an X on a white post it means a crossing of some sort and that is when you need to sound the horn
I'm confused...Did you put on the shunting bell or were those the sound of boom gates?
I enjoyed playing spot the red car haha
Good to see "A BOX" was open, even if only in the last few seconds. Great film Corey
Sorry, but badly edited. Ruined it for me....

American trains have to give prior warning otherwise they could be sued.
