the 80s was my era i was 15 in 1980, and live the 80's through my teen years, from the 80's this was my fathers favoutite song, he has long sinc past, this brough back memories, we worked in the factories together and went to the pub together, best friends as well as father an son, thanks guys
Hynn, The Voice, Dancing with Tears in Your Eyes, One Small Day, Lament, Loves Great Adventure, Reap the Wild Wind and Visions in Blue are all good choices. Midge Ure also released an album of orchestrated versions which is very good, particularly Death in the Afternoon.
Heard this on radio or MTV back in the day. Liked it then and now. Somehow missed this yesterday. Good reaction from you both, Hope your thumb is better, Zoey. Blessings all.
"He also co-organised the Live Aid concert of 1985 along with Geldof and Harvey Goldsmith. Geldof and Ure have been honoured with two Ivor Novello Awards for writing the song. In 1988, Ure helped to organise the Nelson Mandela 70th Birthday Tribute, at which he also performed."
This song lives on because it is a time machine. If you want to go back and experience 1982, get on board. Some songs are such a snapshot, a summary of popular sounds of that moment, to such a degree their value goes beyond their initial meaning.
this came out in 1980 when in fashion and music that used to go hand in hand a genre called the new romantics was happening.some of these bands were spandu ballet, duran duran, visage. the people at the party were new romantics. the plot seems to be the woman is married to the rich older guy.she's having an affair with the other guy they get caught and photographed.all three are at the party.she sees people whispering to her husband maybe telling him she has a guy.they run from the party.her husband follows gets shot they gets photographed.
This was an attempt by their manager to produce a "classical" type song. Midge Ure kept saying "I do not feel this, it means nothing to me" and his manger told him to "Say that then!" And the rest is HISTORY!!! 😂😂😂😂
Voted the UKs best number two ever. The band wanted to make a video that changed the way pop videos were made and did this on film and even though the music label would not pay for the video the band went ahead and self funded it and the rest is history.
if you want more Scottish bands worth a listen check out The Sensational Alexy Harvey Band and The Proclaimers two very different sounding groups but both excellent
Here’s a beautiful tack from Gerry Rafferty more famous for Baker St and stuck in the middle with you, this track is where Gerry is happiest with his family away from the fame he never welcomed Track What Evers written in your heart, ruclips.net/video/I8UHCqvuUqY/видео.htmlsi=qUMseeBDBwpnqyka
This used to be voted the most popular UK song of the 1980’s. It only made number two, beaten by Joe Dolce’s Shaddup Your Face. Please do not react to that song 😂
This is New Romantic/Goth Rock and was No2 in the UK for weeks stuck behind the dumb 'Shutupa your face' song. Midge Ure went on to great things except he lost all of his hair 🇬🇧
Beautiful song
An 80s masterpiece, great reaction guys!! Midge Ure will be delighted.

Such an articulate 13-year-old reactor. I predict great things for this young person.

Vienna is in my top 10 (maybe top 20) albums of all time. Mr. X, All Stood Still, and Passing Strangers are great songs, definitely worth a reaction
Ahh yes, 80's memories romantic goth big hit here in Australia as well as UK /Europe 👍🏻

The Midge Ure was the thoughtfulness that lead to the UK Live Aid at Wembley concert, Bob Geldof did the PR, image to raise money
Well, first with Do They Know It's Christmas Time, by Band Aid.

Very thoughtful!

Midge Ure improved every project he was involved in. Once in a life time talent
💯
I've been to Vienna - it is a very nice old city. This song was a big hit in the UK back in the day.
❤❤❤❤
She is a very mature and smart girl 😊
BIZARRE FUN FACT : The vocalist here, Midge Ure, before forming Ultravox, was a guitarist with Thin Lizzy! Mad as fook.
A classic big UK hit from the early 80's ! As you both pointed out , very Gothic . 😀
Oddly, back in the day on a cheap 1980s mono radio (which most people had) this track sounded a bit warmer and oddly faster than it does today.
The Third Man is a 1949 British film set in post-World War II Allied-occupied Vienna.

Best Ultravox song (for me) is "Dancing With Tears In My Eyes".
I think this was the first song at Live Aid London, this or "I Don't Like Mondays".
good reaction
She's very perceptive!
Would love you both to react to Five For Fighting - 100 Years. Think you would like it.

NO, cutting off the end my favourite bit.......
I know this song and have no idea where I heard it. It's bugging me lol.

This means nothing to me 😉
Really not into it. New to me as well. Don't know if I'll ever listen to it again.
I thought this was going to be a cover, of Billy Joel’s song, “Vienna”.
Didn’t like this at all.
Check out Billy Joel’s “Vienna”….much better!!!
Yeah, jog on 😅
Hey, Pops, chill out, The Lawrence Welk Show will be on soon!
@: Don’t call me Pops, you little whippersnapper!!
No way!!!!! Joels song is not that bad, but Ultravox's Vienna is just outstanding!!! But, no arguments about taste 😅
Try some ELO, GREAT MUSIC👌👌👌👌🇦🇺
The more from Glasgow the better It a quality assurance stamp 🏴🇬🇧🫶
