I have been following most of your video tutorials and they are truly awesome . May I request you to share a tutorial on playing guitar strumming patterns on piano bin detail as series. You have an encyclopaedia of Riffs which will be cherished by all music lovers to improvise their skill levels. Thanks for being so humble .
@@nathanielschool Do you have sheet music to this lesson on your Patreon channel? :-) I'm not sure if I got the 16th triplet feel right, default kind of playing: beat 1: left hand pinky plus right hand outer two notes. beat 2-6: both thumbs alternating single notes. Is that correct? Edit: No, you're changing the fingers with which you play the triplets. So as I understand it, it's about feeling the groove and spontaneously choosing fingers to do the 16th triplets with, while the left pinky bass note is held for one whole count, and the chord in the right hand (or the two upper notes from the chord) are being played at beats 1, 2, 3, and 4. Greetings Christina
Jason - I’m a Sax player and take your online class just to understand chord progressions better - this rhythm and chord changes is so awesome- I’m hooked - signed up and want to progress in my piano playing with YOU! Thanks
Thanks a lot Jason ! Super useful and helpful ! A question about the chord progression, could you explain how you built it? I can't figure out what key we are in or find the harmonic pattern behind it (functional harmony).
Hey Jason, you have great lessons buddy. I love them. You explain quite slowly and clearly. Will check out your other lessons. Thanks. You have interesting hand independence exercises.
Your classes are always gems! Thank you Jason! And your sound is also so rich. What piano/sound library/Daw are you using for producing these videos? If you can share, of course..
Since I took this lesson, i added the technique of using my left thumb to do triplets, and i added that to a song of my band. If you wish, You can see me doing that with my band in a live performance, it's on my channel. Thanks Master 🙇♂
Great lesson as always. I spent an hour trying to work out the key. It seems to resolve to A major, and I think what Jason has done is flatten the 6th (F# minor) and make it a major (making it F major), and he’s also flattened the 7th from G#dim to G Major, and he uses (sometimes) the minored 4th (making it D minor) as a substitute. From what I understand, minoring the 4th and flattening the 7th are common substitutions, however I didn’t know you could flatten (and major!) the normally minor 6th. But in this case the F major may not be a substitution and may simply be a passing chord to the G major (flattened 7th). My head is melting. Going for a lie down. Hopefully Jason himself can enlighten me!
A - D/A - F - G I - IV/1 - VIb - VIIb Thanks for your question Mark. This looks like A major as it starts with A major triad. Then we stick with the A root and play the IV (D major). The last 2 chords you could say are borrowed from the parallel minor, A natural minor which has F and G major chords. Those could be looked at as the VIb and VIIb of the key of A
You could also look at this song in the key of A mixolydian b6 scale. A lot of my riffs use this scale which you could listen here: riffs.jasonzacmusic.com/?filter=SCALE-%3AMixolydian%2520b6
I cannot comprehend why the F and G chords sound good in this chord progression. They are not diatonic, but what are they? Can you recommend a video that would explain that? Thank you Jason!
Looks like these are borrowed chord Martin. Will do a lesson on these. Perhaps you can start with this video where I reharmonize a popular song, "Hallelujah". This covers this technique along with many more: ruclips.net/video/FPhigSfgDzc/видео.html

Liam. Perhaps the Left Thumb could play Eb and the Right Thumb could play it's Major Third (G). If it's Eb7, then Left Hand and right hand could play the same thing if the right adds the Db (minor 7th). However, you could also change the left hand thumb to play Db. Hope this helps?

Such a great chord progression. I'm trying to figure out which mode the chords are from. They don't appear to be from a major scale.
