Yeah I wondered that, guess in some instances when the ground's not so level and easy to traverse getting off the truck helps. Still, gotta get your steps in!
any reason yall don't just dig a line around it so all the fuel burns and doesn't risk another fire starting? this method just seems a bit tedious. Massive respect though all the same, you folks are heroes
For a fire like this in grass and brush, just wetting down the edge of it is sufficient to contain it. Does require follow up patrolling, but any containment method does. The 5 of us were able to move along at about 3 miles an hour or so, which is remarkably fast for containing fire edge. Line digging is measured in hundreds of feet per hour, and dozers max out around 1 mile an hour pushing line. So long story short, mobile attack with an engine is definitely the least tedious way to stop a fire, except burning off of existing roads. There were also dozers out there, and of course you saw us burn off a road too, different tools in different places. Thanks for the support!
It'll be drones some day soon. I even wondered about designing one with rubber paddles that beat the flames. Whole things lasted a minute or so. Well done, good effort. Hope you get amply rewarded.
This video is the perfect microcosm for engine wildland fire fighting. I loved it, thank you! Great memories.
Music is Darude “Sandstorm” one of my favorites
Love these time lapse vids!
In Australia, we don't walk at grass fires. Just stand on the back of the truck.

Nice choice of music 🎶
Wow. Those guys are fast. That fire never stood a chance.
Darude - Firestorm
great work
You wouldn’t even have to pay me to do this job
Fighting fire with fire 🔥
Truck needs a platform on the front. Would be less walking and could cover more ground faster.
Runnin and Gunnin! ❤❤❤
Wow I forgot all about this song.
You guys need a long boom chair on the front of the truck with the hose mounted to it 😂
whats that song called?
This is fucking awesome

I guess they're really speeded up vids.
You NEVER mobil pump from the green !!!!
Really surprised they dont use some type of farming tool/trailer like a tiller or such and drive in front of the fire
Different tools in different places. Had dozers working on this fire as well.
Great videos. Aren't they called Hotshots?
No, hotshots are configured in a 20-person handcrew. This is a 5 person heavy engine.
Shame he can't stay on the truck and hose from there - save his legs. Good exercise though.
🤦🏻♂️
das ist dumm , zu fuß laufen ..... warum nicht auf die Haube und fahren lassen
Thumb down. Original sound of the Video makes it much better. 👎👎
Ha, that'd just be chaotic radio traffic and me swearing a lot.
