I’ve tried learning this song many times on you tube.. seriously great lesson!! broken down perfectly. Thank you for your time to put this together. Brilliant!!
Happiest of New Years to you Shane! Love this video. I really appreciate your continued excellent instruction. The addition of the bars and chords in the lower corner is super helpful. Great idea! Like the trick for the F with the thumb over the top. Always picking up some pearls from your videos! I'm currently picking my way through Leader of the Band but only have the intro. I see someone else has suggested this as well. I'm sure you would do an awesome job on that. In the meantime, The Boxer is now next on my list because of your video! Cheers! Lisa
Happy New Year Lisa! A big thank you for your kind words and so glad to hear you are enjoying your guitar! Great suggestion Leader Of The Band - I have already written it out and just have to double check it. My best to you! Shane
Know and play this song in original format and different ways! But I love your style of teaching mate, I look forward to your more advanced lessons. Thank you 👍
Nice job, though I do wish someone would break down the Fred Carter Jr part that's an absolutely gorgeous melodic counterpoint to Simon playing in standard tuning
Great to start with this one on our first Skype lesson of the New Year today Shane. This song always takes me back to summers when I was a teenager - never thought I’d ever actually get to play it. Not a bad songwriter that Paul Simon eh?
Hm - I never realized until today that the song as originally recorded was tuned down a half step - I though the guitar was capoed at the second fret and the first chord was an A shaped chord (ie, really a B major). So I've always played the song in that position, using A, F#mi, C#mi, E and D shapes, instead of tuned down a half step and using C, Ami, Emi, G and F shapes. I think either way works OK though.
Hi Bill - good question indeed. If you just let them grow long they tend to be thin and will break. If you file just the very tips off every couple of days they will go thicker and then longer. Has worked for me for years Cheers! Shane
If I may recommend a better way to show how you teach playing chords, I think it would be more clearer to see if you showed your finger placement for the chords to be shown face on instead of the side view...... I will continue to watch your lessons, I've learned so much from your lessons, and I thank-you........
i need a favor, i play a lot of cover amd write. reguarding any cover , youtube teachers always try teaching note by not and i cant rinfg finger 3rd whatever and i am not alone so i am asking that you teach us the chords and stum the songs even the boxer. it gives the non acomplished player the basics and then i pick it my way for instance i play nobodies home on a six string bodville style. the charmers can wear a turtle neck and play it note for note but i am not paul simon . pink floyd or john prine i am me and 9 times i get the hug and the busking dollars and i am subsribing to your chanel
Thank you for that - I am always as true as possible to the original - sometimes when there are multiple guitar parts on the recording decisions have to be made in order to distill it down to one guitar. This arrangement really works well. Cheers! Shane
hi Shane. Still working on this one but it is coming along. Thanks for the excellent guidance. Ken
That’s great Ken - happy to hear it. My best to you and Cheryl! Shane
Hi Shane great song, great lesson! One small thing - at the beginning you said you would come back to the intro at the end but you never did.

Another great lesson. Big thanks. PS - like your new haircut :-)
Ha! Thanks Suzie - much appreciated! Shane
just a question how do you get your nails so long and hard?
Hi Bill - good question indeed. If you just let them grow long they tend to be thin and will break. If you file just the very tips off every couple of days they will go thicker and then longer. Has worked for me for years Cheers!
Shane

Thank you Hagit - my best to you, Shane
You didn't teach the intro at the end as promised.
i need a favor, i play a lot of cover amd write. reguarding any cover , youtube teachers always try teaching note by not and i cant rinfg finger 3rd whatever and i am not alone so i am asking that you teach us the chords and stum the songs even the boxer. it gives the non acomplished player the basics and then i pick it my way for instance i play nobodies home on a six string bodville style. the charmers can wear a turtle neck and play it note for note but i am not paul simon . pink floyd or john prine i am me and 9 times i get the hug and the busking dollars and i am subsribing to your chanel

A beautiful song for sure thank you Shane
You’re great but the arrangement are often not identical to the original
Thank you for that - I am always as true as possible to the original - sometimes when there are multiple guitar parts on the recording decisions have to be made in order to distill it down to one guitar. This arrangement really works well. Cheers! Shane
Tough song....wow....
